I've done everything I can find in the forums to try to fix it. I have 6.4 installed with meloo's bugfixes. CTD on just about every battle. It's making the game unplayable. I've spent nearly a week trying to get this mod to work correctly.

This is the bug thread for SS, no? Look up. In any case, I *did*. As I mentioned in my post.

I apologize....I did not see the title of the thread on the forums home page and was just trying to help...just saw that there had been 54 views to your post and NO replies so I thought to try.....
Installation folder?
did it work OK before Bugfix comp?
Submods?
UAC disabled?
It's in it's own folder under C:\, no, only the 2tpy in the launcher added by the bugfixes, not only is UAC disabled for the entire system but every folder and .exe that could possibly ever meet MTW2 related files and folders on a warm day's stroll has had permissions altered to allow full control by all users, and all the .exes are run as admin.
have you tried altering/lowering your video settings?
Yep. But seriously though, this is a $5000 Alienware, and MTW2 is almost a ten year old game.
I play plenty of other mods with high setting and no issue. SS just seems to have some stability issues of its own.
Great mod guys. really. I have trouble enjoying the vanilla game now after seeing this. It's just too unstable to actually be playable at this time. I've been scouring the forums about this for some time, and the conclusion I've come too is that there are just too many things people are having issues with, and a very short list of solutions. I've gone through all the ones I've read, and so have others. The mod is just unstable at this point.
Well older games sometimes do not fare well on the newest and more powerful hardware, part because of unoptimized use of resources from the game part and also incompatibilities with newest stuff. But if you say, you've run other M2 mods successfully then is probably something from this mod then.
For the lasts few months I've been running this on a 2009 bootcamped macbook and it runs just fine, RBAI 5.7 (which is included in the bugfix comp) seems to have removed CTDs during battles for me, but yeah can't say i've pushed it to its limits.

I'm a bit wary of using RBAI because I don't really understand what it is or how it differs from the AI already in the game.
Well applied it and the G5 emergency fix. No dice. Still crashing.
sorry mate dunno what else could be, unless your SS download got corrupted somehow
Since you 've done all that research, I believe you 've done a proper installation and you are not refering to custom battles only.
Maybe if you file a proper bug report, you 'll find more help.
Of course this might not help if its late era campaign game, I never play late era.
I was having CONSTANT CTD after installing the bugfix compilation until I followed these steps...
1- Extract the content of "BugFix_Compilation_v1.2.7z" to "...\Medieval II Total War\mods" and accept to overwrite everything.
2- Before launching the game you must run the SS_setup.exe with no submod selected (just the mandatory AI option of course) this will finalize the bugfix setup and DONE now you can add any submod you want and play as normal
You know, I knew about that way of doing it, Vin, but I'm not sure if I did it this time around. This is my 7th or 8th reinstall. I even got a non-Steam copy at extra expense. I guess I'll give it an extra reinstall.
Nope. Still crashing.

Yeah...not very illuminating, is it? The only commonality of these crashes is that they occur on the campaign map just before a battle, or during the loading screen for a battle.
out of curiosity, which faction(s) have you tested and which units were present when the CTDs happened?
maybe there is a bugged common unit causing this.
also were the armies led by a family member/general or just plain captains?
it could be some trait trigger badly done, captains would not suffer from this.
or are these crashes completely random without any linking condition?
gotta give all the info you can, BTW also you should set the log to level=* trace in default.cfg
