    Default Very Bad Dilema

Sup all, I know I've made a lot of threads the past couple of months, but this is very important. My dreams of making my own rig is crushed, atleast for a couple of months. My computer's motherboard blew and is completely screwed, so my father bought my brother a new computer today, with okay specs:

    2.2 GHz AMD Dual Core
    2048 MB RAM
    6150 LE(sucks)
    250 GB Hard Drive

So the thing is that I am not going to add a new video card or anything to it cause I don't want to screw it up. I have two options:

Option 1)- I can upgrade one of my older computers and mix and match parts with my computer that got screwed up, specs of older computer:
    2.15 GHz Processor
    160 GB
    512 MB RAM

I can, from that, upgrade the video card to an AGP x8, and get a new sound card and network card.

Option 2)-Do extra chores and get $10 a week, save up the money to buy a whole new system, this is the system . If I do this, I can most likely get a new system by my birthday, November 14th.

    Salaam,
    Adnan

Apparently something got screwed up on the motherboard and therefore, you'd have to get a new mobo to get it to work again, but what I'm going to do is get a computer soley for gaming, so I'm going to get RAM from the old computer and get brand new parts. The specs were:

    1GB RAM
    80GB Hard Drive
    2.98 GHz Processor
    Pentium 4
    FX5200 Video Card

If you stuff up a computer from installing a video card Id suggest you cut off your hands and vow never to touch a computer again.
I know 6 year olds who build computers (little smart alecs...) so you installing a video card isn't an issue. The only issue is your fear of making a mistake...or your parents irrational fear that an "expert" must be the one to do it.
But hey, it's attitudes like that which give me people like me more money to spend.

The mobo you picked (http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813157096) is DDR2, so I don't think it will support your old RAM.

Download CPU-Z and check the socket number, if it's 939 the ram is DDR, so you can use your old ram. If it's AM2 the ram is DDR2.

Even if you can use the old ram, your current 2 gigs is enough, no program is going to use more than 2 gigs of ram. Adding more will probably make the ram run at the slower T2 timing (Assuming the manufacture used 2 1gig sticks).

And yes, do add a new video card. The board is probably PCI-E.

The computer didn't get messed up because of the video card, my brother is just paranoid and doesn't want me to install a video card, hell, I've built a computer in a class in school, so this is easy. I just want to build another computer because I don't want this computer to slow down what-so-ever. Again, what should I do, build a new computer for games, or upgrade one of my old ones?

I could do that, but I'd end up on my back wondering what just happened:wink:
