    Default Processor question

I was wondering if a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4ghz processor (stock clocks, I'm not big of OC'ing) would be a good processor for RTW. I chose this cause its in my price range. I'm curently using an older 2.4 ghz p4.

Its going with 1.5ghz of DDR 400 ram and an NVIDIA 6600 gt video card.

I'm really just curious as to how its going to perform in RTW, and even in MTW2.

    Thanks in Advance

That processor will be fine for RTW, but for M2TW I can't comment till the full game is out.
Your video card is lagging a bit, you will find the settings will have to be turned down in M2TW, or even for RTW mods that use better quality skins than the vanilla ones.

    Hang on a sec.
You are getting a new motherboard right? You cant stick an AMD chip into an intel motherboard.
I suggest you post your computer specs, a max budget you are willing to spend, and the good people here in cyberspace will happily tell you how you should spend your money.

If you dont know what your motherboard is, download a free program known as cpuz, run it, go to the mainboard tab and take a screenshot, then host it on imageshack, and post the img here using the {IMG}{/IMG} brackets. Replacing {} brackets with these ones []

That is quite possibly, the greatest quote I have heard in the Basement before.

lol no worries, I've already got a socket 939 mobo, was just in the market for a processor at no more than $150 Canadian.

I'm poor lol. All I'm looking for is a processor taht will allow me to play on large -huge unit size (either is fine) at medium settings.

and in MTW2, just large unit sizes and medium - low settings (v1 shader) no shadows/bloom etc

The processor will do that. My AMD3500 does that at stock (though it does better since I overclocked it).

Yes, that is my current CPU and it runs Rome very well :-) Don't know how it will run MTW2 yet though.

I just bought the dual core version (4600+) with a 7900GTO and was testing the thing last night, RTW (un modded) starts slowing down and gets unstable at around 9000 soldiers. (8500 seems to work fine)

Feel the pain of having a good rig, M2TW will run just fine on that rig. Krazy, in your bios what is the clock speed and multiplier of your processor. I cannot OC my 4200 more than 2.3 GHz

Consider adding more Ram. I've noticed loads of ram seem to benefit RTW when there are multiple armies involved. Game stays 'playable' and I'm using modded version. Now I can bring a 2nd army into a seige without getting a massive slowdown when the AI army pours in. Though this will still happen if they enter form a single opening. :tooth:
