Default PO: a battlefield challenge or....

    ...a campaignmap chore?
My point with this thread comes from my experience with the Europa Barbarorum mod...In this mod playing is a nightmare as any faction...there is no money, the troops cost and upkeep is astronomical, the rebels are tough like steel, agressive and everywhere...but what happens isnt that one gets challenge in the sence that the Programmed Oponned (for marketing puropese labeled "AI") does something smart (the mod is on the 1.2 RTW patch) but that there is a huge bonus to the machine and one is in a constant artificial state of emergency due to 100% finansial reasons...meaning that the whole thing is a chore of defeating stack after stack of dumb morons....
However the domination is INEVITABLE (if you can take the pressure) its just coming later than the vanilla campaign....
    My question therefore is:
Is this kind of "challenging "AI"" preferable?
Will you see it as an improvement over past games if M2TW uses same difficulty philosophy?

I don't see it as an improvement as it's incredibly easy (relative to fairly competitive AI). It's like a sugar substitute. It tastes alot like the real thing, but there's a nagging difference that is too great not to notice.

I think they could be a bit more lenient (sp??) with money in the campaign games, as this is what i find the hardest in the game and usually end up editing the game so that i have more money... yes i know its cheating, but i play a game to enjoy it... not to be defeated after 30 turns. I also agree with you that the upkeep for units is also a bit high in the campaign game, especially on rtw, i hope its not so expensive on this one.

I figure if you don't lose a campaign in your infancy, you're golden.
After a while, the money starts pouring in, and the cities start falling.
After you get that initial breakthrough (defeating your first major country), everything else is elementary.

I totally agree. This kind of "ai hardening" does make the game, somewhat, more challenging. But overall the battle ai's weakness overpowers the money obstacles and makes the game easy in the end. I hope M2TW is a complete revamp of the ai difficulty, because I don't want to see the infant tactics displayed in RTW anymore.

lol i used 30 terms cos its the first number that comes into my head. But truthfully, no I dont last long without money on campaign games, i guess im useless. ah well. All I need is a little start up capital more than what the computer starts me with and im fine after a few turns, but without im buggered.

Back to the subject, i do think you should start off with a little extra cash in yer coffers. Personal opinion though, I know some people like a challenege.
