Icon5 Some units not available to recruit.

I didn't want to post about this in the bug report thread as I am pretty sure this it to do with culture, and just not understanding the requirements.
In the first image you can see that my level 3 auxilia barracks allows me to recruit "alae gallorum equites optimi", while in the second image you can see that they are not actually available to recruit. Simply put: why is this? and what do I need to do

    Any help is appreciated

Dude, those units are available once you get to the next reform
Look for the reforms explanation n the DeI forums

That is good to know, I couldn't find anything about auxilaries being recruited at different reforms other than the historical ones coming in at the marian. So to recruit the alae gallorum equites optimi do I have to get to marian reforms, or wait until the celts get their neitos reforms? Can't seem to tell I guess I'll find out by just playing

Most of the custom auxiliaries come with Marian reforms.

but the units should be grayed out, if you can not recruit them. Are you using DeI 0.9h ?

Thanks for the replies guys, guess I'll wait for the marian reforms, I must not have noticed last playthrough, I thought I could remember recruiting them pre-marian reforms but I am clearly mistaken

That is why I asked, the rest of the post reform units: legionaries, the noricum/whatever cohorts from Don Diego's units are all greyed, wondered why this wasn't. Hmm, looking at the download page, I'm pretty sure I have revision f or g, rather than h, which would explain the non-greyed units.
I will download the new version on completion of this playthrough Or when I get bored

ala gallorum optimi is the vanilla "Gallic Noble cavalry" unit. In next update these auxilia will be removed as AOR units are far more detailed. You can then get a similar heavy cavalry in Belgae province whilst gaul has light cavalry.

I know some of the auxiliaries are going to be removed (by the way none of those auxiliares are vanilla, they were introduced in DEI 0.8) but i want to know if the equites veterana equitata (Basically Gallic Noble Calvalry that are much better than the Optimi) will remain, as i like to have at least one army with that unit representing the gallic veterans from Julius Caesar Campaign in Gaul.

Hum...of course Gallic cavalry was very well known, but of what i remember in Julius campaign in Gaul, his best cavalry ever was... german auxiliary cavalry.
And correct me if i'm wrong (learned that so long ago!) but at Alesia battle, the german cavalry was one of the most important part of the battle.
In DEI, unfortunately, i don't think german cavalry reach the power it deserved in reality...

I think that was due to the poor loyalty of the gallic horsemen rather than their quality. Hence Caesar had to mount some of his legionaries rather than use his gallic or germanic allies when meeting King Ariovistus. Which Germanic cavalry do you mean Phil, would they have been the Treveri (Celto-Germanic I think?) They are some of the best cavalry in my auxilia update anyway, but I guess normal Germanic cavalry are weaker atm.

    Hi Don Diego,
I'd have to dig again in my numerous books i used to read (long ago) about all the Roman republic and empire... sorry, don't remember the exact cavalry name Caius was using
Only thing i recall, is it was from germany.
But maybe it was german mercenary cav? ...It could be, as they were also very well known for their strenght and bravery.

Why are reform units sometimes greyed out, and sometimes not? I'm pretty sure I'm using 0.9h. Guess I'll download another one and see if it changes.

I am so looking forward to the ditching of the old auxilia units, especially the stats are so annoying being better than Don_Diegos. By the way Don_Diego are you working on other units at the moment? are there any preview of your upcoming work for DeI somewere?
