Default Convincing the Greek Population of Cyprus.

It had only been a few months since King Perseus had defeated his rivals to secure the rule over all of Cyprus for himself. He had won a great sea battle that saw the death of both of his greatest challengers to Cyprus' throne. However, his victory was not going to be enough to secure the support of the people or prevent other weaker challengers to rise up and try to claim his throne. This was because King Perseus ruled over a split population, half Phoenician and half Greek. Since he was a Phoenician himself, the Phoenician or Eastern half of the island was fully on his side and his own capital lay safely in the most Eastern section of Cyprus itself. On the Western half of the island, the Greeks had their enclave and he knew it would be from here that King Perseus would one day find a challenger to his rule.

The King had a solution to this. He intended to marry the daughter of one of his defeated rivals, King Nihkolis a lovely maiden of age 20. This marriage he knew would ensure that the next King, his son, assuming of course that he is the one to inherit the rule of Salamis, would be of both Greek and Phoenician blood and that no one could use a claim of blood and culture to remove his family from the throne.

So there he was, in the city Paphos, the center of Greek power on Cyprus on the most Western edge of the island ready to woo his former foe's daughter to unite the island of Cyprus under his Dynasty's rule.

    Allegiance Roll:

    Basic roll; 10/20
Modifiers: +1 for marrying a local
    Final Roll: 11/20

Rolled a 1, this unprecedented and unforeseen move by the Phoenician King would ensure the allegiance of the Greeks as they praised him for his humility and respect for the former ruler, King Nihkolis and his family.

In an unexpected stroke of good luck or that the gods were on his side, be they Greek or Phoenician, King Perseus plan to unite Cyprus proved to be an overwhelming success. The male relatives of King Nihkolis who now ruled the city of Paphos immediately accepted his proposal to marry Antheia and once word had spread about the upcoming marriage to the other Greek strongholds on Western Cyprus, the other nobility who ruled those surprisingly accepted this marriage as well. The other lords wanted peace and prosperity returned to Cyprus and with their two best claimants now dead, they were happy to settle with having a future King be of half Greek and Phoenician descent.
