Default How to enable family tree for the Border Princes?

I'm playing as the Border Princes, but I see that they do not have family tree enabled (i.e. for the player to see): the Border Princes do have family relations (I checked the desc_strat file), so how do I enable the family tree; what do I need to edit?

Yes you're right, the Border Princes don't have the family tree icon in the faction tab. I've never noticed that as I never play with the Border Princes. I don't really know what to edit to add the family tree icon though.

The Border Princes are not ruled by a family. They are a loose confederacy ruled by several families who occasionally elect a military leader from amongst themselves when they're threatened. If they had a family tree, they'd need several family trees and the engine doesn't support that, so there is no family tree possible to be (reasonably) lore accurate.

To change this state of affairs would be very difficult IMO because I think you'd have to redesign the entire UI for the faction and that ain't easy to implement properly and would also be against the lore.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are so certain of themselves, but wiser people are full of doubts.

You are missing the point. I'm not saying that the Border Princes having a family tree where the next in line would take over upon the previous ruler's death would be accurate, I'm only seeking a way to enable the family tree because it is easier to manage than having the top military commander take over. If you want to go to the game's political systems then the way the Empire's emperorship is restricted to Reikland is not accurate - if Reikland somehow ceased to exist then the Emperor's seat would really pass on to somewhere else within the Empire: the emperorship not hereditary; the sitting Emperor can have an heir, but the heir will only inherit the dominion within the Empire over which sitting Emperor directly rules unless elected as the Emperor by the Empire's Electors.

You need to find the descr_sm_factions.txt file and change "teutonic" to "yes" for the "has_family_tree" value under the "kalmar_union" faction (the Border Princes).

Note that this faction wasn't supposed to have a family tree, and it may cause instability and/or other issues.
