Default Aleppo, the Thessilian Jewel of Syria

    Kingdom of Pentheus

    Capital: Aleppo
    Regions: 6 (41, 42,43,44,46,47)
    Region Capitals: Aleppo, Tripolis, Damascus

    The Protótoko Dynasty

Pentheus, the Thessilian, Born 343, Reign: 323 - Present
    - His First Wife: Zenobia, the Damascan, of the Twin Bloods
    -- Their Children:
--- Antiochus, the Syrian, Prince of the Three Bloods, Born 323
--- Philip, the Syrian, Prince of the Three Bloods, Born 322

    Levy of the Protótoko

    Total: 18000 men

    Professional:
900 Hypaspists (Elite): These are the men and sons of the elite warriors who served in Alexander's army in support of the phalanx. They are victors of battles and skirmishes uncountable. When the empire fell apart, these men remained loyal to their general after he became King.
900 Hoplites (Elite): Wearing thick armour and wielding weapons they have trained with for years, these mercenaries from mainland Hellas are a solid bastion of Greek dominance in the east.
1200 Kataphraktoi (Heavy Cav): These men are a mixture of natives and colonists who have answered the call of the new Greek King of the northern Levant. Riding clad in metal from head to hoof, these are the literal mailed fist of the Thessilian King.

    Allied:
1200 Tarantine Cavalry (light cav): These men fighting in the Greek style act as scouts, messengers and skirmishers. Some would go as far to say that they are what keeps the new kingdom running. They are a dependable group of natives and mercenaries, who know their mounts as well as any other.
1200 Aphraktoi Archers (missile cav): Taking after the nomadic peoples of the east, these 'unarmoured' cavalry dance around the enemy, filling them full of arrows before they unleash a devastating charge.
6000 Argyraspides (Heavy): Greeks, Macedonians, Hellenized Persians, all those who have a legacy from Greece stand shoulder to shoulder in the battle formation of the Great Conqueror.
600 Thureophoroi (light): These men are armed with a large oval shield and spear, long enough to allow them to join the phalanx, or act as a cavalry deterrent on the flanks.

    Levy:
1200 Thoraktoi (heavy): Clad in expensive chainmail, these men fight with thick shields and long spears, capable of augmenting the phalanx as well as dashing ahead to deal with flanking cavalry.
1200 Persian Archers (light/archer): Fighting in the old Persian style, these men wield both bow and spear and shield. While they will not be considered on par as the phalanx, they are as dependable, if not more so, than the Greek light infantry.
1200 Citizen Militia (light): The lowest of the low, these men are drafted in to fill out the phalanx, more to express the power of the army rather than for any actual tactical worth.
2400 Arab Spearmen (light): These men do not wish to fight for the aloft foreigner who demands their servitude, but with the alternative being death, they will march to war. Armed with a variety of tribal spears and shields, these lightly armed and armoured warriors are hardy fighters, used to the harsh climates of the desert.

    Treaties

    (Ozneral): Trade and Alliance
    (Aspasia): Trade and Alliance
(Marshall of France): Trade and Non-Aggression Pact (4 years)
    (Zectorman): Pending
    (Lord William): Pending

OOC: obvious these are at two different times

    @Oznerol:
The King was busying himself with the tedium of ruling when the ambassador was admitted in to his presence, flanked by two of his royal wife's guards.

You need not kneel here. Come, say what you must, so I may give a reply.

The King nodded to his council, and they skulked away in to the dark alcoves set in to the wall of the large, bare room. As soon as they were out of sight, Pantheus took a deep breath, and waited expectantly.

    @Aspasia:
Pantheus met the riders himself as they entered the courtyard of the ever expanding palace. He wore a simple robe, kept closed by a gilded belt. His crown was nowhere to be seen, but he held himself highly, and the courtyard was silent for him.

Greetings, come, say what must be said, so I may give a reply.

Cleitus, cousin of Antigonus, bows respectfully. He wears at the traditional Macedonian fashion.

He has my friendship, as one king to another. Trade will flow freely, and times of war will see us unite together

With a snap of his fingers, it was done. One of the officials brought forward a scroll, recently sealed. Pantheus cut his thumb, and smeared the blood on to the twine.

A bit barbaric, I will allow you the privilege of knowing, but without a seal of marriage, my blood will do. You may return to my friend now

Cleitus was surprised, it was all too sudden and quick. This man wasn't a man of words, indeed.

"Eh... Of course my King, blood is the best seal. When you are in times of need or we are swift riders will be sent and the thunderous noise of the phalangites will make the earth tremble"

Lagos, a diplomat from the parmenid kingdom bows before the man and shakes hands with him as a sign of tremendous respect and good will. Lagos a macedonian diplomat of 64 years old begins to speak.

'Greetings noble lord, i come here in the name of King Parmenion. My masters knows that we could be possible neighbours in the near future and therefore we need to negotiate, what we certainly don't want between us is war. My master proposes us trade lines opened from Uruk (most southern city in mesopotamia) to up to Tropoli. Parmenion also wishes to create an alliance to make the Syrian-Mesopotamian relations strong, an alliance between us would certainly make us seen as a strong power int world king'

Lagos sits down, drinks from his wine he received and awaits the kings response

Pantheus nods at his Macedonian captain of the guard as he tenderly sips from his own cup of wine, watered down quite considerably.

I am a king, I do not negotiate. Petty merchsnts may barter with their goods, but a crown changes a man. He has a duty to his family and his people, and that does not include bartering. Trade will flow between our peoples, and no merchant will be tithed for passing through my lands.

The guards assembled doubled, and then tripled, and then doubled again until there were hundreds of warriors surrounding the envoys.

An alliance with your powerful King would make me happy.

A scroll, already prepared, was brought forward by a servant.

However, I will remind you that I am a king, and you a mere messenger. I did not give you leave to taint my flesh with your dirt from the wastelands.

A dozen guards came forward, blades drawn.

The hand is now mine, not yours.

Four men kept the ambassador held down while the others kept anyone from interferring.

It will be quick, and then you can return to your King with the glorious sound of my friendship

The envoys are sent out immediately after that, with a strong escort until they have left the city.

Pantheus had his audience with the envoys in a room still being constructed, servants racing to and fro.

Trade does help to build links between two peoples, but what do I gain from an agreement which most others would call neutrality? There seems to be no reason to agree to such a notion. Was there anything else?

Pantheus nodded at that, a smile staying for only a moment.

When the time comes, deeds will decide the worth of our words. And blood. Return to my friend with this most glorious of news.

Pantheus was already returning to his papers, and the officials were slinking back to their previous places.

    Katire Gaos began.

My Lord, you gain two things:

Firstly, that trade between our two nations will bring us much benefit in terms of profit and trade. Since we are located near the Silk trade, I cannot see how it cannot be of any benefit to you, and neither are we establishing an neutral agreement. We mean what we will say.

Secondly, an non aggression pact will work most in your favor, for we have no intentions of expanding for now. We would very much honour our agreement with you, and we respect you very much for you seem to be more stronger. Nevertheless, if you reject our offers, it does not matter. We do not mind, but we will thank you for at least taking the time to hear our offer. ''

At that very moment, Hellenus the Mighty came with an mighty army, ready to crush the Nubian uprising as had been per agreed with Angtionius the Fair. He intends to keep his word. He walks through the walls and bows in front of the King, with an envoy of bodyguards and silver shields behind him. Katire Gaos bowed and shuffled back.

'' I, Hellenus the Mighty, King of the Hellenid Kingdom, request you permission to grant us access through your lands in order to progress to Egypt, to help Angtionus the Fair to crush his Nubian Uprising. We only ask permission to grant access. That is all, we have no ambitions of conquering your lands whatsoever, on the contary we are not interested. I intend to keep my word if I am to be trusted around here, and here I say to you, allow us permission so we can destroy the Nubian rebels. Whatever has been discussed with my envoy, oh mighty ruler, will also be discussed. ''

The offer of trade buys your non-aggression pact, to be renewed every five years. My answer should please you amd your masters. Now leave me to my duty, if you would..

His fingers clicked, and a servant stepped forward to finalize the details.
    :---------------

Rebels, Pantheus spat the word. Aye, go forth and rid these lands of such ungrateful scum. You have the blessing of the Twin Cities.

    Katrie Gaos bowed.

'' Thank you my lord, and we shall renew the non aggression pact every 5 years as you have said. ''

    Hellenus bowed.

'' Thank you, my liege. We shall not disturb you any further. ''

Hellenus left with his army as they marched through the Syrian lands.

The Armenian is brought before the King as he leaves the city of Aleppo, a thick column of soldiers following closely. Upon hearing of the diplomat's arrival, he detached himself and twenty men to meet with the Armenian.

Say what you must, so I may give you my reply.

Pentheus frowned at the Armenian's words.

And why is it that when my duty forces me south that I am called north? When does your King hope to stage this conquest?
