    Icon3 DeI family tree?

I wonder if possible, would you consider adding a "family tree" in DeI? Or atleast something similar like a "members of my faction old and not of age" section. I really miss my careful planning of whom to lead and not.

I'm 99% sure if it was possible it would have been done already.

But, maybe there are ways of doing something close to a family tree? DeI is not shy of circumventing unmodabble features.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the characters (generals) seem to be randomly generated as and when you hire one, therefore there is no 'underlying' tree not shown. As such an entirely new process would be needed linking to a tree which may well be out of the realms of possibility for modders.

Correct, this is a hard coded feature which we really cannot help unless CA gives us some tools.

I know there was a huge uproar when Rome II came out without the family tree, does anyone know if CA responded and said why the took it out?

I think there was, don't remember what.

On another note gents, you may continue discussing this as long as this does not become another "I hate Rome 2" or "Let's curse CA" fest.

I like the way the Shougn 2 family tree system works, with the comissions and what not. If some interpretation of that was implemented by CA I would be happy. Then again, that would kind of clash with their current political system so I'm not too sure CA would even bother.

I think they didn't realise how much immersion the family tree offered. Also they messed up the politics system. If politics was done right then we could of had a 'political tree' where we could have seen young candidates vying for promotion and causing their own 'politics' between one another... if only...

Shogun II and it's expansions run on the same engine do they not? Is it not at all possible to forward port features from a game in the previous engine to the current game and modify them accordingly? Surely they're still compatible with the engine as it stands.

They are and it is possible, but only if you have access to the developer build and other necessary dev tools.

I suppose that would be a bit problematic given the lack of said tools for the modding community.

Although if that's the case, I fail to see why CA doesn't just implement it themselves in such a way.

    Not if it is hardcoded.

I have tried to use the historical character spawning system to do a very spotty family tree of sorts, but it doesn't work reliably.

One main problem is that there are many areas of the UI and characters that are simply not moddable. For example, 3 traits only.

Well, what about adding a message/event that pops out on every single turn and contains some faction info depending on your faction strength or family members. Not sure if it's possible to do one, but it would always be something cool to see how your generals fared and which of them got more gravitas or lost the most.

Hardly that, developer build roughly means source code. Which means that certain features need to be removed from hardcoded ones along with modding tools for this to be modded. And as to why CA has not implemented, only they can answer that question.

Too complicated, plus too irritating. I hated this message system in EU3 where each and every thing kept popping up. Besides, imagine the amount of coding required for this.

What's right is right Until CA released their UI tools it will not be possible to do anything new and not annoying at the same time.

Wow, great turn out of of this, didn't expect quite as much from my original post.

As said above somewear, i would be okay with just some simple thing to feel that when(if) my SPQR Empire turns up my son and not a random due takes over at the end of a leaders reign. And similar for kingdoms(Macedonia/Seleukia)

We shall just have to wait and see then?

I feel it hasn't been implemented because the game has no underlying family system like Shogun 2. There are political characters, but that's it - wives are barely relevent, children don't exist, and it's impossible to run out of new generals for your armies.

Yeah but should it not be possible to "make" atleast an script that makes all or 2/3s of your "generated" guys have the dynastie name? An script that kicks in when(if) you create an empire or if playing as an kingdom they start at the beginning? so that the "faction within the faction" your playing have a "dynasty" ??

Sounds really complicated, but maybe doable. But there is a problem when it would become a chore to keep tracking the dynasty names and stuff.
