Thread: using imageshack

    Default using imageshack

I have been using imageshack for uploading screenshots for my AAR in the past. Coming back after several months of slack, I find that imageshack seems to have removed the possibility to get direct links to uploaded pictures. It is indicated on their homepage that getting a premium account will get that feature back. The direct links for pictures uploaded in the past still work, but new uploads are not viable for AAR storytelling anymore. At least not with a free account. Personally, I am a bit pissed off by what is happening here. I do not mind companies asking for money when offering a service, that is only fair. However, I am not very much a friend of companies "trapping" potential customers with a free service and then suddenly changing it.

My question is whether other AAR writers have experienced the same or similar problems, and how they dealt with it.

I'd personally recommend Photobucket. Been using it for years and I'm nowhere close to using up my free storage space. Plus you get a mini photo editor feature, which means you can spruce up your pictures a bit.

Photobucket is good, more so now Imageshack costs, with all the edit options you can upload a screenshot and make all your chances then and there - a good option if you are useless with photo editing programs. Although the bandwidth limit thing is a pain, especially when it suddenly hits you and all your images go offline.

If you are looking for simply an image hosting site (i.e. you've made all your edits beforehand with GIMP or the like) then imgur is quite good (I've just started using it for random image hosting, not AAR pics though) but it is free and does the job.

I used to use Imageshack but when that started demanding money, I converted to Photobucket. It's very similar but I've found I can navigate Photobucket easier.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I am me. You are not me. You are you. If I was you, I wouldn't be me.
If you were me, I'd be sad.But I wouldn't then be me because you'd be me so you wouldn't be me because I wasn't me because you were me but you couldn't be because I'd be a different me. I'd rather be any kind of bird (apart from a goose) than be you because to be you I'd have to not be me which I couldn't do unless someone else was me but then they would be you aswell so there would still be no me. They would be you because I was you so to restore balance you would have to be me and them meaning all three of us would become one continously the same. That would be very bad.

Use imgur, it is free and you don't need to sign up.

Thanks to everybody for the feedback. I guess I will open a new account with another provider then. Although I fear that the problem may reoccur with that provider again at a later stage.

I've been most satisfied with photobucket also. I think Chirugeon had to literally take almost 2000 screens per AAR to come close to the hosting limit. It let's you organize your things into folders and sub-folder and accessibly crop, edit and color correct photos on the fly.
