Default Enemy walls and AI generals and allies during seiges

In RTW and in MTW for that matter, you had the problem of beseiging castles and forts with AI generals coming to your assistance, as allies or as your own generals in command of their own armies. Invariably, they'd come from another quadrant of the map, run up to the enemy walls, then closely skirt the walls on their way to getting over to your side of the enemy city to enter by the breaches your own seige engines had made. Sometimes even half of your splendid AI general's army would get wiped out by enemy archers firing on them from the walls.

Please, please, don't let this be a problem in M2TW...it ruined many of what should have been successful seiges....

Haha you have a 666 post count.

One thing which we know is fixed is that there will have to be units next to a defense structure for the defense structure to work. That would save a lot of your troops if they get too close. Even so, I think they've made the AI much better, judging from the German reviews.

AI inability to properly attack cities was probably the main factor that made RTW so easy. It was so ridiculously easy to defend that you never lost ground on the campaign map. So hopefully AI on sieges is fixed for allies as well as the enemy.

    This is relatively easily avoided...

If you have an AI general commanding, position him next to yours so they don't have to run across the map.

    Problem solved.

yes, that was pissing me off to.
    even with the enemy to.
every time i was being seiged, i wanted a good seige where i would have to put a good fight to defend my city.
They would just stand next to the wall, so the towers archers always take them down.

Struggling with AI and various other problems in sieges led me to pretty generally always auto-resolve my sieges on attack. Unfortunately, this auto resolves as an ordinary battle so you don't take any casualties from the defenses saving you hundreds of men making it pretty cheap...

Playing SPQR I was repeatedly defeated in sieges versus several full stacks of germans. Anyone who thinks sieges are a bore should give this mod a go..
