Default creating an extended map of the CoW map

    hello all,

I am planning on making an extended map of old world that also includes the Brettonia but I am not a fan of redundant work. I know that 1.6 is suppose to come out and I am not sure what exactly will be making it to the live version but if a Brettonia and an extended map is planned I will limit the extent of my project to just improving the old map (mostly the mountain ranges) and implementing new ground types map that capture the old CoW experience I had back in 2009 when I first joined this community.

    cheers!

Check chickenfetus' work here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...9#post13934789. Maybe you guys could work together?

I think 2.0 is the version which is planned to have new map. 1.6 adds stuff to current map, if I have understood right. So new map from the team atm seems still quite far in to the future.

And nice to see you doing your magick to the map again, I wouldn't mind seeing bringing your latest work up to date for current version too. I use some textures from there, but had some problems implementing it fully to Gigs version.

well there is so much I can do, I am a big fan of Gig's work but I am not at all a fan of the terrain textures he implemented into CoW. there is no harmony, some colors are bright while others are randomly too dark.

I am gonna try to improve the map as I can without needing to remake everything. If there is already a Bretonian roster out there and there are no foreseeable future updates to that region then I will happy to make the map but someone else needs to take care of implementing it (coding) I am afraid that is something I would really like to avoid. I really hate it (shameless I know).

@Celtik, unless that gentleman is a well experienced coder I doubt he can offer me much help I am afraid

It is good to see you back, Toho. The big issue, more than creating a map, is also updating the scripts file coordinates to work with the new map. Otherwise the work will be wasted.

that is one of the concerns yes...
which is why I need a coder that can deal with the map after I make it.

I'm fairly certain the main team was in the process of making a new map. Maybe you could get in contact with them?

I actually have a map, very detailed and the scope is much larger but the scale of the empire has suffered as a result. I will post some screen shots later today to give you an idea. The scripts are beyond my expertise and in all honesty besides a few scripts I usually prefer a more sandbox game than heavily scripted one.

    Edit:
So here is the map that I was working on last year and gave up mid way, this map is absolutely huge and I doubt all of it could fit why is why I will be probably cutting down the bottom half where the desert is and some western parts to avoid too much useless sea but the empire is actually the same size (more or less, maybe a little smaller). I am very ignorant from Warhammer lore so I have no clue which factions will be populating these regions so maybe you guys can help out.
I doubt there would be any new factions introduced into this map but I guess there would be more rebel territories and/or unconquerable territories which will always remain neutral.

note: in this map I have disabled my mountain, hill, elevation colors to make it easier to see.
the map is perhaps 75% in that regard done it just requires a lot of fine tuning to make them as pretty as the other maps I have created over the years.

Ok maybe I can help you out as I'm very familiar with the Warhammer lore and I've been a tabletop player for many years. I think you already know it but here is a very detailed map of the Old World: http://www.gitzmansgallery.com/shdmotwow-full.html

The map that you're going to make looks good but I think there will be too many useless territories. Let me explain. In 1.6 we'll have Skavens, Tomb Kings, Bretonnians and maybe Sylvan Elves, well at least I hope. So yes the map needs to be extended for these factions but the isle of Albion (west of Norsca), Estalia (south west of Bretonnia) and Araby (big land south of Estalia) do not need to be included in the map. Why? Because there will be no factions there and Games Workshop never bothered to make armies for them. So don't waste your time for these lands.

This way you'll have more room to make a detailed Norsca, Empire and Bretonnia for example. And you can expand the map south of the Border Princes to include the Badlands (Orcs & Goblins territory) and Nehekara (Tomb Kings) just like you plan to do. You can also expand the map east to include most of the Darklands (Chaos Dwarves kingdom) and the cities east of Nehekara like Lahmia (Vampires). Tylea and the Border Princes could be merged as one Mercenaries faction as most of the mercenary units come from here.

Well, IMO forget about Albion, Estalia and Araby as there will be nothing but rebels there. Instead add more lands to the Chaos Wastes and Norsca. And add Bretonnia, Tylea, the Badlands, Nehekara (the Lands of the Dead), east of Nehekara and the Darklands to the current map because there will be some factions in all these territories. In terms of gameplay it will be much more fun because nearly all factions will be there (except the Lizardmen and the Ogres Kingdom).

I took your picture and I just drew a line to show you what I mean.

Of course this is just my opinion and not a critic of your work
If I can I'll help you but I'm only good with scripting and editing and I don't know much about map making.

    I see what you mean.
this map, I hope, will be used by both the Sundering team and this submod.

I was planning on cutting making red playable for this submod and yellow for the sundering.
the regions you cut off, I understand why you did it but aren't those areas a good place for the elves to expand without worrying wiping out half the empire?
also I cut out the tomb kings because I though it would be cool if they were some kind of horde faction similar to the chaos faction at the tip of the desert in the south.
why did I cut out their capital? because it would have been weird if they lived in a generic arab city...

Good point on the elves expansion. Those would be very nice for both elven factions. I can really imagine the Dark Elves going and messing up Albion on their way to the Old World.

I'd recommend waiting until that hardcode-changing software from Zarathros yields region unlocking etc.

Not in this case, Jack Lusted has givem it thumbs up too. It is the case of altering exe in the memory PC loads it in, or something like that. You can possible make edits to the exe without doing so to the actual exe.

It is quite exciting thing indeed.
