Problems with Medieval II Gold and SS 6.4 mod
Greetings,
I've been playing Medieval II (gold edition) on win8.1 since some time and decided recently to install the SS 6.4 mod. While 6.3 did work very well, updating to 6.4 resulted in being unable to start the mod at all. Trying to start the mod simply resulted in a crash to desktop without any error message. Reinstalling the mods or the entire game did not help either. UAC is disabled.
Had at first the game installed at C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3, but on suggestion I re-installed it at a different location outside of the program files and tried installing the mod again. So or so, the mod did not run.
I received then the suggestion to install the 1.5 gold patch. It did not help much. Now, instead of crashing to desktop, the mod asks me to insert the Kingdoms CD. Both of the CDs which are in the gold edition included don't work. Moreover, my vanilla game seems to be bugged now as well, at the background in the main menu is not moving but stuck.
I should maybe also note that prior attempts to unpack the game also failed for reasons unknown.
Help would be most welcome.

Have you disabled the UAC?
Have you taken ownership of C: drive?

UAC is disabled. About the ownership of the C: drive I have no clue. How can I check it?

Re: Problems with Medieval II Gold and SS 6.4 mod
Currently the owner of the C: drive is TrustedInstaller. I tried to change the ownership to my Windows username, just as described in the guide. However, it did not work, as for some reasons it does not recognize it as valid object.

You have to be logged in as Administrator to even try it.
If the computer actually belongs to another and you're just "family", then the other person would have to give you those permissions.
After Vista was released and a young man wreaked havoc with his mother's computer setup, she had to lock him out of everything but the Sega folder for him to have his savegames saved. The thread is still stickied.

Ask Microsoft Support. It could be in one of their kb(Knowledge Base) files.
