Did anyone else watch this laughable load of garbage? The fight scenes were just so god awful and so horribly inaccurate it was unbelievable. So many moments where i had to pause and rewind to do a double take. Apparently Patton road in a M3 Stuart in WWI. They also showed the Luftwaffe bombing the Polish with a B-17. And apparently one of the Panzer Corps got their hands on a T-54 because they were using it in their invasion of France, LOL!! There were many many more. Like i saw Russians fighting in American uniforms. Just no historical accuracy to any of their scenes at all. Well, if you haven't seen it, don't bother watching unless you are looking for a good laugh. Good lord, History Channel is a freaking joke!

I couldn't agree with you more. Even whatt the narrator said was historically innacurate. It was a load of bs

Cant believe those examples are really true, well its the "History" Channel.... I mean, if it is like that, why even bother make a show about it? Gotta search on youtube about it for a good laugh yeah!
Then, as throngs of his enemies bore down upon him and one of his followers said, "They are making at thee, O King," "Who else, pray," said Antigonus, "should be their mark? But Demetrius will come to my aid." This was his hope to the last, and to the last he kept watching eagerly for his son; then a whole cloud of javelins were let fly at him and he fell.

I thought they did a fairly good job casting the actors. Hitler looked like Hitler. Stalin like Stalin, etc.

The young Hitler sucked. What accent was he even using, was it Irish? It was like a mix of British and Irish accent with a little bit of a German one sprinkled in here and there.

Oh they're true, and many many more i didn't even notice or point out that i saw online after i googled into it more. Americans and Germans using Lee Enfields. Saw some Japanese soldiers gunning down Chinese with MP-40s. The German T-54 in the invasion of France the German B-17 bombing Russia was definitely the highlight though. So much more i didn't even mention. The show itself information wise was complete garbage as is. Anyone who has read a book or two about this stuff, you won't learn anything new. It's not really about the World Wars and is really just about Hitler, Stalin, FDR, Patton, MacArthur, Tojo, Mussolini and Churchill. I don't even know if Eisenhower or Monty's name even came up. When it comes to WWI the only people that even get face time that weren't part of WWII were a brief scene or two with Lenin and a few scenes with Woodrow Wilson. That's about it. WWI is mostly just about Hitler being pissed off and shaving his mustache off with his trench knife. Patton is so badass in WWI in that show he rides a tank from the future and apparently doesn't even get severely injured like he did in real life.

Obviously Hitler is going to have a British accent. He's Hitler. This is America. Nazis are from England. Hitler was an Irish corporal. We defeated them in WW2. Your ignorance amazes me. Good day sir.

it's kind of sad, they used to have WW documentaries daily, and now they can't even get the basics.

Although actually I didn't remember any bad info, I wtf'd too hard at the WWI battle scenes to actually watch the show

I think the producers use what's available for props.

There was one recent Canadian documentary on the fall of Berlin or the last days of World War Two, where the actors spoke egregious German.

^^This is the beginning of the best series of WW1 documentaries. Its a 10 hour series told using direct quotes from the diaries of those involved, from soldiers on the ground to high ranking politicians.

The problem started many years back, when people thought documentaries had to include live-action recreations of the events being depicted, instead of depending on archival footage for recent events, or just images, woodcarvings, etc., for older events, considering the on-screen footage of a documentary has never, in my mind, been important. The documentary should be judged without caring about the images displayed or the recreations.

Too right. Documentaries should be judged on content, factual accuracy, journalistic standards and whether or not they bring something new (in terms of academic study) to the table.

A great documentary is Apocalypse: The second world war. And apparently they are making one of those about the first world war as well...

So I went and watched this. Yeah it really ing sucked.
It's every WW2 documentary we've ever seen just with some actors now. And the amount of assumptions and poor logic some of these historians make is laughable. The documentary even goes so far as to make statements which are either nothing more than assumptions or probably fabricated tales which have never been proven. One such example is the supposed story of how a British soldier spared the life of Adolf Hitler, proof please.

If you really want a good documentary you should all watch the 24 Hour Cold War series. It's on Youtube if you care to take a look. A newer one which was decent was Nial Fergusson's War of the World, the only problem I had with that is he likes to make too many assumptions. Plus he keeps talking about the "Rise of the Eastern powers" and the recurring themes in history, he sounds like if Marx and Tolstoy met at a bar and got super hammered and then decided to make a documentary. Either way though it's better than most new documentaries so give that a try if you want.

Ferguson basically views the 20th century as the undoing of the 400 years of Western domination. An anti 15th century.
