    Default Germanic goldsmith?

Hey folks, I´m currently starting a new campaign with suebi and noticed the lack of goldsmith on that faction. Does anyone know if it is a bug or an intended penalty?
    cheers

They don't have it in vanilla either. Most barbarians have it but not Germanic and Balkans barbarians (except for Tylis which is celtic really).

The goldsmith is for Celtic (and by extension, the Iberian) tribes. The main source used for the Germans was Tacitus, which describes the Germans as having almost no form of mining. I personally see no reason to believe that the Germanic tribes (at the very least, the northern tribes) could not extract iron from the bogs which were common in northern Europe, especially modern Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia.
A very interesting video about extracting and forging bog iron:

The video is specific to the much later Vikings, but I don't really see a reason why this practice could not have been used much, much earlier. While the iron is of much lower quality than that pulled from the earth itself, it's still iron.
