Default The Voyage to the East

With their departure from Dragonstone, the remnants of the Targaryen Dynasty alongside a group of the most loyal of loyalists, led by Lord Jon Connington, make their voyage for Pentos, a Free City within Essos. Along with them was a squadron of Dornish warships, to make it appear as if the group of ships were a convoy. The loyalists and Targaryens hoped to escape the clutches of those who rebelled against them and seek a new life, for now, in Essos.

OOC: Let's rp anything in the ship now and when everybody is done we might move on to Pentos.
"We all know whatmy brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."

Deiyna Mooton stood on the deck of the ship. She looked over to the sea. It was calm now, but last night she had been sure the sea would have swallowed them. It all began to sink in, all what happened, and she realised, the chance she would come back to Westeros anytime soon was awful small. A part in her wanted to scream and run away, but she was on a ship and felt trapped. Nowhere to go. Nothing to run to. She would go to Essos, that was what she knew. She didn't know anything about Essos as of yet.

ooc: I assume that while on sea the Queen can move around the boat
"Deiyna, thanks the Seven the sea is calm as a pond, yesterday the remnants of the storms that ravaged Dragonstone almost sunk the ship"

The Queen approached with her little baby on her arms. Both stared with their purple eyes the young Mooton. Little Viserys was behind her, playing with a wooden knight.

    "How are you, my Lady?"

Deiyna nodded in agreement. She looked to little Viserys. "I don't really know, your grace. Well enough as anyone can be I guess."

"Yes, we all suffer from unseen wounds, doesn't it? I hardly endure the death of my son"

He caressed the head of Viserys tenderly.

"Do you know something about Pentos? I don't know if such things are taught at Maidenpool, but my father's court was a place of learning and the Grand Maester talked... us about the Free Cities quite often. Also, as every dragon before us, we were taught in High Valyrian"

The queen stammered because he remembered Aerys, how fair and kind he was. Even if by then he had strange moods.

"Ah! So many hours I spent studying the magisters of Pentos through the history, and their dynastic feuds and quarrels. But my knowledge might be obsolete I fear, long years since I was taught about the Free Cities... Beyond the Narrow Sea's coastline and Volantis, however my knowledge is less and less. I hope Pentos will be as friendly to my House as they used to be"

And kin... the Blackfyres are said to have died on the male side, I don't know if there are females left. Lord Steffon Baratheon led a failed expedition to find such brides for my son long years ago. And more than friends they would be enemies"

    She looked her baby

"I mourn you have to left your home and family behind Deiyna. I don't know what would I do without Viserys, Daenerys or my son's children"

Oberyn was already off making nice with the ship's Pentoshi crew, with the lull in the weather the men - at least the ones lucky enough to be above deck - were sharing a bottle of cheap rum. Anyone from Essos knew sailor's rum tasted like rat piss, but men didn't drink it for the taste and it gets you drunk just the same. They were all speaking low Valyrian, the unique dialect spoken in Pentos, so none of the other Westerosi on the ship could make heads or tails of what they were saying - though judging from the crew's laughter and the crude hand gestures Oberyn was making it was most likely some kind bawdy tale.

Ser Janos came out from below, stretching slightly as a breeze from the sea rolled in. His eyes glanced at the crew for a moment before walking off to find Lord Connington on the matter of the children and the future of the Targaryens.

Lord Connington was in the prow of the ships, taking in the sea breeze and wondering about the future and the great responsibility laid upon him.

    My Lord Connington.

Ser Janos walks up to the prow of the ship, looking at the former Hand of the King.

We have to discuss the...future of the children during their extended stay in Essos.

The same doubt clawed at Jon's mind, they might find exile in one court or the other but never for too long and the few gold they had might be needed for swords and ships if they were to return one day. After long moments of silence he answered "Yes... we have."

ooc: if you don't mind I'll have Tristayne on this main ship in case there is any more RP to be had, I know it would make more sense to have him on one of the Dornish ships but...

It was a straight sail across to Pentos, but the winds often blew west and the convoy was forced to tack a few times but that was just as well since it would throw off the scent any other trade ships that might be spying for the rebels. He had to remind himself, he was the rebel now.

He lay in the rope net under the jib boom at the bows, reading a book, happy with life at sea but wondering what in Seven Hells the future would hold for his niece and nephew. Over the edge of his book he saw Connington and Ser Janos meeting on deck. He tried to placate his fears, he surely could trust these men... but it worried him that it was all beyond his control, and maybe if these men could be trusted how long would it be until someone around them betrayed them or was caught in one of the many traps life throws at a man, and sold a tale about Targaryen children to save his skin?

He knew that they would focus on the boy Aegon, because Westerosi tradition did not give inheritance to the firstborn regardless of sex. It was always the first male. Strange Westerosi. Still, one saving grace with all this meant that Rhaenys would be free to inherit the throne of Dorne and that was a great hope for the future because it meant that Rors' days were numbered. He only hoped that the horror she had suffered would not marr her, but that like her mother she would be a good ruler. Had her mother been allowed to rule...

It would be best if the children were paired off; Aegon with Rhaenys and Viserys with Daenaerys. As we know of the Targaryen marriage tradition, these pairings will work. Plus, these pairings will make it less likely that all four will be found. If one group is found, another may not be, leaving some hope for the dynasty no matter what.

Janos glances at the water and the direction they were going. He rubs his neck as his mind began to think about the destinations.

At Pentos, we will have to split up. With one group remaining in northern Essos and another in the southern parts, one idea I came up with. How does this plan sound to you?

Oberyn eyed the prow of the ship, the hand was finally away from that Queen and her foolish words, now was his chance to give reasonable advice. And that's why I will never bring a bee hive and a honey comb into a brothel ever again! The crew erupted into laughter as Oberyn lipped away.

He overheard Ser Janos as he approached the two. It sounds like a decent enough plan, my friend, but once the groups are split it is imperative that Elia's children are kept hidden from Robert's eye and for that we must keep them on the move and under the radar, yes? Those lords and knights that go with them must take up false identities - it'd be rather obvious who the babes were if the exiled lord of the Griffon's Roost was raising them up, no? You all look warriors and I know people.. with me perhaps we could pass you off as mercenaries and the babes as your children?

    Lord Jon Connington, Narrow Sea

Lord Connington was silently listening to the other's advice, it seemed sound but did he trust any of them enough to raise Rhaegar's family? And was it truly best to rip a family apart at such a young age? Sighting he spoke "As much as it pains me to do so I believe that to be the best course of action, marriage traditions disregarded, it is safer to separate them like that. One boy and one girl. As the Prince left this task for me and for Ser Jonothor it seems logical that we can split it up that way, I will travel south with Princess Rhaenys and King Aegon to the cities of Lys and Volantis where Valiryan children are many and will remain hidden." He would not leave his charge on the hands of others, he owed Rhaegar that much. "The world believes them dead and dead they shall be, I will take the identity of a merchant and dye my hair and beard in order to avoid recognition. Meanwhile, Oberyn, spread false stories that I turned Sellsword, serving alongside other exiles in the Golden Company and abandoned the children, your contacts there might see to that." It would ruin his reputation but what was reputation against his honor and King? "Ser Darry will take Danaerys and Viserys north into Pentos or Braavos, their survival is known so you may seek refuge in foreign courts as exiled Princes. Rhaella will also go with you, to remain with her children and nurse her baby. I expect one of you to follow."
