Default Advice on a stuttering issue within Games

I am afraid until I manage to find the schematics which list the full features of my PC, I can only give a rough definition of what my system is.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Dual core Processor.
Two 512 Gigs of Corsair DDR2 RAM (667 is one of the values, I forget the other)
    Asus ATI 1900XTX 512 mb

The issue involves the games Rome total war, company of heroes, and Dawn of War.

What happens can be best described as a framerate issue, in which 'quick series of freezes' occurs. There is not a slowdown where framerate becomes laggy, but rather, an absolute freezing of the screen for a few seconds (in dawn of war this happens every 5-10 seconds, In RTW it happens erratically, in COH it seems to happen as I go over very detailed areas) before it then reverts to the current setup in the game, with sound occassionaly being marred. Once or twice, only through the headphones, I have heard the type of sound you hear when your sound repeats itself as your system is frozen.

RTW and Company of Heroes are on near max Graphics options, but DOW is not for the most part. Also, I have played RTW and DOW prior to this and never had the issue of halting periods of second long freezing occur.

As far as I can tell, my CPU seems to be at about 50 Celcius when I am in a game. My Video card runs at the insane 60 Celcius at desktop and 70 (I think) ingame. I am told that is natural for the X1900XTX, which is itself a very hot card.

Oh wow, for that beast of a system this shouldn't happen.

    Some things to check first.
    1) Defrag your hard drive.
    2) Remove all traces of previous graphics driver with Driver Cleaner, then download and install the latest graphics driver.
    3) If you recently upgraded the motherboard or even the graphics card, you should probably reinstall Windows XP.

My advice is pretty much the same as incinerate_IV's, but you may also want to check for a virus hogging your RAM,or infact any program that you dont want hogging your RAM, although with that amount it shouldnt be an issue.

Heh. You said you have two 512 GBs, or 1024 GB, or 1,048,576 MB of ram. You definitley shouldn't be getting any stuttering, .

With your great system, I see no reason for any stuttering in any game, at all. If all else fails (defrag, virus check, etc) then I'd do a complete reformat and your fresh system should run everything like a dream.

I had this too, try reinstalling the Video card.

That fixed it? I called tech support for Monarch and they instructed me to reinstall or update the Processor/Motherboard's BIOS, explaining that if it were video card I'd have seen artifacts or errors.

It's fixed it -somewhat- it seems to happen now based on how much is on screen (A lot) instead of just randomly. I've reinstalled the drivers for my video card, but that didn't do anything. Does reinstalling the video card entail more? Or simply making sure my drivers are completely deleted and then reisntalling those?
