Default Silverhill, seat of House Serrett

    Information

    Description

The Silver Hills of the Westerlands is a relatively hilly area with several small mountain chains dispersed amongst the hills and forests of the area. The headwaters of a large river that flows south into the Mander is located in one of these mountain chains. The region's larger hills and mountains usually appear to be covered in a veil of fog, looming over the forests, lesser hills, and valleys that make up the rest of the region.

The Serrett's castle is located on on two of the mountain peaks near the headwaters of the river that flows through the region, a stone bridge passing over the flowing river connecting the two sections of the castle, of which there is only a winding pathway up the first mountain, making the castle imposing for invaders to successfully take, some having falling victim to the mists and fell off the path, were knocked off by the garrison, or in several cases, fell into the river. The first section of the castle is primarily where the military affairs are located, with multiple defenses placed to be used against anyone coming up the path, the barracks, a secondary hall the lord can use, and some of the servant's quarters. The second part of the keep across the stone bridge is where the Serrett court is located, the rest of their servant's quarters, a pathway down to a nearby mine, and another pathway leading to the gardens kept by the members of the house where besides various flowers and vegetables are grown, but several peacocks are kept as pets by the Serretts there as well.

A large retinue carrying the banner of House Tyrell, with many wagons and camp-followers behind, arrived at Silverhill a rainy day. The man leading named himself Ser Hugor Tyrell, uncle of Lord Alesander Tyrell of Highgarden. He said that he requested a meeting with Lord Serrett regarding business beneficial to both parties.

With the castle secluded behind a veil of fog, the guards on patrol did not identify the approaching party as Tyrells until they were almost at the gates, to which two knights met Ser Tyrell, leading him through the first part of the castle and across the stone bridge over the river roaring below them to the keep where the Serretts held their court, although due to the advanced age of the lord, Ser Tyrell finds himself in a study with several bookcases partially full of texts on various subjects, a painting of a knight with some kind of wings on the back of his armor located across from the bookshelves, and the elderly lord staring out at the rain and what little the fog allowed to be seen. "My lord, Ser Tyrell is here to speak with you on behalf of Lord Tyrell." one of the knights states to which the elderly lord turns around, walking over slowly with his weirdwood cane firmly gripped with his left hand. "I see. Welcome to Silverhill, Ser Tyrell...I hope the weather did not trouble you much.." the lord speaks in a slow, rather quiet tone.

Ser Hugor, quickly wiping away some water from his greying walrus mustache, smiles and bowes.

"Not at all, my lord. We Reachmen consider the rain yet another blessing from the gods, not the least Highgarden with its great gardens."

He takes a seat next to the old lord, eyeing the titles of the books. Hugor had read many of them himself, though some he had only heard of. The Ghost Steward would have to aqcuire them for Lord Alesander's collection. The Tyrell reaches into his pocket, bringing forth a document sealed with golden wax and the seal of a rose.

"I have come to discuss a trade between Highgarden and Silverhill. Your lands are known far and wide as rich and prosperous, not only from silver but also gold. My lord Alesander Tyrell wishes to tie closer relations with other kingdoms of the realm, and would hope a trade agreement would be a good initial step. Highgarden is filled with the finest fruits of the Reach, a great commodity for any lord who wishes to taste the good things life has to offer."

OOC: As we said in the PM, there's no point to begin this trade if you're going to drop the house. Up to you to accept.

The old lord thinks on the matter for some time before speaking. "..Silverhill has no gold mines, Ser Tyrell. The only mines here are for stone, silver, and some lesser minerals of little value. You could say we are the least fortunate of those in the Westerlands who control the mines, having the inferior resource. But while I am intrigued by your offer, would it not be more prudent of me to trade with a Riverlords house for a food product to ensure my granaries are stocked in case of a winter?"

Riders with the flayed man on their banners and chest arrive to Silverhill and request an audience with Lord Serrett.

The Bolton men are met by two knights outside the main gate and led to the study of Lord Desmond, the elderly lord sitting in a chair reading a book with a woman across from him with reddish-gold hair, a trait of a now extinct house.

The Bolton men kneel before Lord Desmond:

"My Lord Serrett of Silverhill, we have word from Lord Roose Bolton of the Dreadfort, now that the war has ended he wants to establish trade with your lordly house, our fine furs and pelts in exchange of your pure gold and silver (ooc: I suppose you have silver too, if not forget that bit)"

"Silverhill has only silver mines. Gold in the Silver Hills mines is rare, never enough to justify a mine devoted to the mineral." the woman states while Lord Desmond nods. "Trade with House Bolton would bring in furs from animals rarely seen in the Westerlands and could be worth a fair amount of dragons, but it is a far way to the Dreadfort from here and our merchants would have to cross the Neck..whose swamps may hide brigands." "Along with the Riverlands where some Ironborn may have deserted their lords during their reavings in the rebellion and now terrorize merchants.."

"Perhaps it would, my lord. Wheat, barley and corn can be stored for a long time, but so can fruit if prepared the proper way, while the taste is much sweeter and varied compared to bread. Any guest would praise your name to the Seven if they find a fruit pie or pickled pears placed before them at a feast. And let's not forget, the Reach can still grow and trade many kinds of fruit in the middle of winter. Our lands are always fertile and warm, especially Highgarden with its protected gardens. So even when you sit beside your hearth while the Others creep outside your doors, my lord will be able warm himself with a delicious pumpkin soup, directly from the kitchens. As for your mines, silver is also a valuable metal. It is stronger than gold, so I wouldn't scoff a silver blade when facing a golden one."

Lord Serrett smiles. "Very well, I would be honored to trade with Highgarden. I shall have the paperwork prepared and signed with all haste, Ser Tyrell." Lord Serrett calls for a servant who returns within an hour with the paperwork to which Lord Serrett signs before handing it over to Ser Tyrell.

"Silver is as good and valuable as gold, my Lord Desmond, and yours is pure and valuable"

    The Bolton men nods.

"Furs as rare as white bears, or seal skins, that are incredibly useful to craft almost water-proof clothes or boiled armor"

    He swallows

"My Lord, the reputation of Lord Bolton would surely be enough to avoid the trade being disturbed from brigands in the North, and Moat Caillin is firmly in Lord Bayard's hand. Also, the King's peace has been almost restored, and the Riverlands are secure. Also Lord Bolton would send a guard to escort the merchants"

"Very well, I shall accept Lord Bolton's offer of trade..and send some of my own men to escort the caravans as well. Emphyria, go find the Maester." "Yes, father." She returns some time later with the Maester who writes up a document for Lord Serrett to sign and then hands it to the lead man of the Bolton party.

"You will not regret this, my lord. Lord Alesander Tyrell will be pleased as well that this has gone smoothly."

Hugor smiled and signed with a swift and steady hand. After taking his copies, he rises and bows to Lord Serrett.

"By your leave, my lord. Now I must return to Highgarden and prepare our merchants to begin transporting our goods here. It has been a pleasure doing business with you, Lord Serrett. May the Seven bless your house."

"Of course, Ser Tyrell." He looks over at the window for a moment, noticing the rain has stopped. "I shall inform my merchants to prepare to transport silver south to Highgarden. May the Seven bless your house, and ensure you have a safe journey back to the Reach."
