Can somebody help my find my perfect mod? There are to many :p
Well I've been trying a bunch of mods and till now DLV seems the best for me, but again I went on a search because there where things I didn't like...
What am I searching for?
- I like a really big map, that doesn't have to be a map that expands more to the east, but more a map that increases the intensity of regions in the existing vannilla setting. And DLV does this excellent. For example taking southern Italy and make 5 regions there instead of the 1 huge province. Making malta playable. Chopping the huge regions in nothern africa in pieces and the Iberian peninsuala has almost twice as much regions. (last game was sicily xD). It really slows down and when you set yourself the goal 'I want to own southern Italy, it actually takes some time and you don't have it after 1 battle. Extending the map east is fine, but I prefer a higher intensity of regions in the existing map.
- I like game changing events like invention of gunpowder, the mongol invasion or the world is round. It's something that keeps late game interesting and is something that makes m2tw so much better then later games. So while I would like a mod to add things, I don't like it if it takes them out, especially America seems to be taken out a lot by most mods, which is a shame, especially if I'm playing as a western power I really like the world is round event.
- I like to choose whetter I want a city or a castle and where I build my forts. Almost every mod I've played has taken out the option to change cities to castles and the other way arround and allows me only to build watch towers. That's really an important thing, because otherwise I would stay with DLV, maybe somebody has an simple solution for that?
- I really like the titles that generals can get when they end the turn in a settlement, like 'duke of ...' or 'king of ...' many mods I've played have added that in, which always makes me care more about generals + I know where they're 'from' and roleplay more with them.
- Better AI is off course nice, but no mather how much they improve it, I guess it will always be easy to beat
- More factions is something most mods add and what I like, especially if there are mods there with whole new factions that other mods don't add. With DLV I had a blast playing as flanders for example.
I hope there is a mod out there that matches this xD I can't find it, especially more regions, being able to decide where cities and castles must be and still being able to reach the america's doesn't seem to be possible in one mod... Historical accuracy doesn't matter that much, as long as there aren't any pink unicorns running arround I wouldn't even know that things aren't historical anyway. Also I don't need huge unit rosters perse, because I can never choose which one is better, so if there's a few units from everything I really don't need 10 different units of heavy cavalry that have almost the same stats and do almost the same thing, but if it comes with the package it's ok
Hope somebody out here reads this and knows a mod that does this. Otherwise I might start looking into modding again, allthough combining overhaul mods is almost impossible for a noob modder like me that has had it's last experience in m2tw modding 4 years ago xD

Stainless Steel is one of the most solid works around here, it mainly expands vanilla (feudal europe) with lots of new stuff and tweaked mechanics, so it's the medieval 2 total war experience expanded!
however the last version of it is a bit old (they're working on a new one, but no release in sight) so be sure to take a look around the sub-mods for some newer stuff added into the mod
also, be sure to check the hosted mod sections, there's many other mods worth looking at
