    Default Reduced Fog of War?

Has there been any news of CA reducing the fog of war that was in RTW? I heavily preferred the MTW system where you could see all the land in yours and adjacent territories, it made the game simply seem far more epic, even if it was less realistic. I hated the fow in RTW because of all the watchtowers you had to constantly build simply to see in your own lands. Am I the only one who disliked the new FOW in RTW and does anyone think it would be a good idea to set the Campaign map FOW in the options. It would allow me to eliminate this nuisance.

Fog of war was absolutely essential to the gameplay. If you didn't like it then you created agents to be your eyes in foreign lands. Seeing the world open up to your view is part of the game, a very nice aspect of the game acutally, particularly in the middle ages when your crusaders open your eyes up to the world. YOu can almost see the Renaissance take place as the map lights up with colours. Very very satisfying.

I believe the OP meant within their own territory, not the entire world.

I personally think it should be dynamic. An option to turn it on or off. The default FoW should allow you to see everything within your kingdom's borders, taking provinces into account. If you lose a province, the fog of war sweeps over it.

Yeah i agreee that having to build watch towers with in your own borders was a bit stupid, but i think we should still have to build them to see into the bordering proviences.

I think there should be a gameplay option however, because to me one of the reasons i didn't play RTW was because of the FOW. There should be an option as in other games. Or at least extend the range of towers and cities to give a more epic feel.

Personally I like it the way it is, though I would like to be told when there is a rebel army in one of my provinces.

If you do a search for “Romeshield” on google, you should be able to find a cheat; to disable it.

Edit: to disable it, Press the tilde (~) key to bring down the console; and input: toggle_fow

I like FOW. Its realistic imo, and looks quite good. But you're right about the fact that you have to build alot of towers. But who cares I still liked it, because imo it makes the campaign far more realistic. And it gives you a reason to recruit more agents.

I didn't like it because the AI knew exactly where your troops were and the economic situation (especially in BI) was so bad ( in a stupid attempt to increase difficulty) that most of the time a large spy network was not possible.

Agreed. It really pisses me off though, when the rebels nick one my towers, especially when the army I send to investigate gets ambushed by the gits.

As a matter of fact, I would even suggest they turn off the option to cheat on higher difficulty levels. Only on -ai or so, for testing purposes you should be able to turn it off at all. As a previous speaker said, build more agents. To make that a bit more attractive, for our new beta I made agents have 7 experience levels, so they get lots better as you build higher market and academy type buildings. AI uses them too, but like with all tweaks the player benefits most. Would be a waste if someone just ignores those extra possibilities, never builds any agents and just uses a toggle. I *like* being surprised by the game.

In RTW if you were completly able to see within next province, than waht is the point with ambushes and suprise attacks!

agree with the fact that the watchtowers should look into the bordering regions. If i was a king then i would most probably use the local lawenforcement as my eyes and hears inside my own contries, that and a few other things.

But that is exactly what those towers are doing when you are building close to border, also having towers in your territory, makes enemy unable to make ambush. You can expect entire tower shoing entire territory and what units he has. That is why you have spies...maybe their visibility needs to be increased a littlebit, nothing else...exept slightly incresed visibility....

i remember in shogun you could look at a world map and see who held each of the provinces. I really liked this feature because you could see who was battling, and who was winning the wars. Is there a feature for this in RTW or MTWII? From what i could tell, you could buy maps but that was just annoying. I really like looking at a world map with no details except who possesses which provinces.

I *think* you could maybe tweak one file so that FOW would be off by default, but only on the *radarmaps*. Mmm. Interesting. Will check tomorrow if that works. Thanks for the suggestion. That way you would indeed see game developments without having to cheat or see too much. I would think that an improvement too.

Wouldnt it be nice to be able to destroy your enemies watch towers and reduce their line of sight in the process?? Also I think regarding this post that the line of sight was about right in RTW BUT... it would be nice to see a little further into enemy territory. Im also keen on the idea of making the watchtowers light up with flames as a kind of signal when enemies enter your territory but I doubt this idea will feature in the game.

Hmmm...I think it would be cool to be able to destroy enemies watch towers...especially when you invade vast territories like steppes or those areas in North Africa...

Acually I am unsure if you were able to do so in RTW, were able to destroy watchtowers..never tried that, nor did I ever had one destroyed by enemy!?!

Hmmmm....was guessing that myself...but funny that i havent thought of it before, mostly becouse I will take over enemies territory so I will need them.Eh I had hopes there would be raid options when in enemy territory, to lure enemy attacking me and such or just quick way of earning money!

I always wanted there to be a "spy network" structure which you could build, and it would grant you vision only inside the province you built it in. (especially usefull in the large provinces )
The towers couldn't be destroyed - but i often had rebels armies standing on them, and i think they took it over (cause the fog of war covered my own watchtower until they moved! )
