Default The Coronation of Robert Baratheon

    184 AL:
With the former regime dead and the capital being leaderless, the day of the coronation was decided to happen right at the first month of the new year as a sign for a new age under a new dynasty.
The war has been settled, most of the loyalists bowed to the new order -
but still Robert Baratheon, soon-to-be officially crowned King of Westeros
missed the wife, which was promised to him,
    his love
    Lady Lyanna Stark.
Due to the sad message, he recieved the Red Mountain expedition, lead by Lord Bayard Stark, the mood of the new king has worsened from day to day.
A mood, only kept up by small banquets and, as it was rumored, the one or other flower, Robert has picked from the streets of King's Landing.

The festivities would happen as traditional at the Great Sept of Westeros. Several High Lords and their vassals as representants of Great Houses have already shown up inside the building, where the new King of Westeros will be crowned soon.

Lord Jon Arryn stood proud in a prominent place, as fitting for a Lord Paramount. He wore blue velvet and silk, lined with fur. A heavy livery badge hung from his necklace, made of gold, rubies and pearls. A ceremonial sword on his side, with silver hilt and a falcon on its pommel. His blue eyes watched as the Sept was slowly filled by the realm's nobility. By Jon's side, and grabbing his arm, was Lady Lysa Tully, his young wife. Behind the lord stood all his high lords and principal vassals, like Anya Waynwood or Hereward Hardyng.

Lord Hoster Tully and his five of his children - Edmure, his heir, Steffan, the very marriageable Minisa and the infant girls Hostella and Volantis - stood at the head of the Riverlander host, which naturally included many of his most prominent banners and their close kin. From his prime position he could see his daughters, the Ladies Arryn and Stark, who were naturally accorded similar pride of place.

Sandor sought out Lucion, his Lord, in order to have some silent words. "My Lord, I am going to offer my sword to Robert to dispose of the last Targaryens." He wiped something off the side of his unshaven face. "I want your approval."

Lord Lannister stood calmly among those who were among of the Westermen stock. The words of Lord Arryn still ringing in his mind. As the procession ended with the soon-to-be King entering, his gaze glanced at Sandor who approached him. Lucion calmly sighs and nods his head.

We will speak of it once the coronation is over, Sandor. I will need someone to take over your duties as my son's tutor so I will need to consider whom that will be. Also, after I am done speaking with you about the matter of this search for the Targaryens, I wish to speak with your brother, Ser Gregor.

He speaks lowly to Sandor before turning his attention once more to Robert Baratheon.

[ooc: For the sake of the RP we'll assume Robert knows Lyanna's fate. I want Bayard to be here for this.]

The two Lefford men stood in the Westerlands delegation of the crowning, both wearing fine armour and silken tabards bearing the Lefford sigil. Around them were the Lords Pendric and Nunn, also present for the coronation. In addition, Raymar's wife and children, including the bastard, were brought to the Capital for the event, and they stood with their father and mother.

There, too, was Bayard Stark, he alone representing the Stark household: his cousin had gone North, leading the troops home. He was still sullen over the loss of Lyanna, with the coronation serving only as a bitter reminder that the war fought, the fundamental political changes it wrought, were ultimately a total failure: she had still been taken from him.

The lords and ladies of the Reach were not as numerous as the guests from kingdoms that had once been called 'rebels', but they stood out nonetheless. With several of his High Lords and their closest kin stood Lord Alesander Tyrell, his wife Lady Alicent, their three children Axell, Mariya and Jeyne. Lord Alesander wore a green leather jerkin with carvings of vines over a yellow doublet with matching green breeches. In his left hand he held his cane, his left leg steadied with a bracer. Axell had matching clothing, while Lady Alicent wore a grey and white gown in the color of House Hightower. Mariya and Jeyne wore matching green and yellow gowns.

What made the guests from the Reach were the cloaks that all of them were wearing: simple satin cloaks in the colors of the rainbow, seven colors holy to the Faith of the Seven. This had been on the order of Lord Tyrell. The Reach held chivalry and the Seven above all else, in these times they would show their unity and devotion to the Gods.

After a month of arguing over the coronation, Lady Rohanne, dressed in a fine Lyseni-made dress of a dark violet coloration with silver designes depicting waves adorning the lower half of the dress and jewelry of several different Essosi designs, making her look more like a Essosi noblewoman than a Westerosi. She stands towards the back of the Reach contingent, not wearing the rainbow cloak most of the other Reachmen are with a disinterested look on her face. Next to her and dressed in a similar fashion was Lady Morrigan, her younger sisters, Carolei and Aramei, while Lucifer, Ser Alesander Goldwyne, and Ser Alester and Ser Florian rounded out the group, all wearing ceremonial armor with the rainbow cloaks as requested by Lord Tyrell while the Redwyne ladies did not.

Meanwhile, Lord Vywrel was overseeing the unloading of the Arbor Gold and Red barrels brought to be served at the feast, which also was argued over for at least a week in the Vintner Court before deciding to send some of the lower quality vintages for the majority of the realm and keep some of the Redwyne's personal reserves of Arbor vintages for the Reach lords to have and select houses(ie anyone trading or on favorable relations with the Redwynes). He looks at the direction of the Great Sept for a moment, then back to the unloading eventual transport of the wine to the Red Keep.

Stannis was present for his brother's coronation of course, color was starting to return to his cheeks. Stannis had always been a thin man with a gaunt face, but when the seige was lifted he'd been little more than skin and bones, though he was now returning to his old self. Stannis was a bitter man and rigid, and it seemed even war could not change that as he had more reason to be bitter and rigid now. That the Dornish invaded his homeland, that the Reachmen set ablaze their villages and their fields, that the defenders of Storm's End had been left to starve for over a year, that he'd been left with a scant fifteen thousand men to defend the Stormlands against a hundred thousand, there were too many reasons to count.

    ****

Ser Barristan stood and watched his new liege readying himself for the crown, the Usurper some were calling him, Robert of the House Baratheon. He was dressed in the white armor of the Kingsguard, his blade had been returned to him and his cloak cleaned and patched up, the very same cloak the White Bull had entrusted him with - though the White Bull was dead now, alongside the rest of his brothers..he would need to close out their entries in the White Book. The Kingsguard would need to be rebuilt from the ground up he knew, and as Lord Commander it was his duty to see it done, currently he had little and less to work with - Ormond Lannister the Kingslayer was the only other white brother, more a detriment than a useful asset to the Order.

    ****

The Greatjon stood beside his liege and friend, Bayard. They'd fought the war and won, they'd fought the Kingsguard and won, but they were too late - the damage had been done and Lyanna was gone now, it made the victory seem hollow some how. Thinking back to that lone tower the battle had been fierce, many of his personal friends had died at the hands of one Kingsguard or the other, and Ser Arthur Dayne had lived up to his reputation, a superb knight, a good man, a bad judge of character. He'd finally gotten around to trimming and cleaning that massive beard of his, the hair on his head as well, his beard was still mighty and he still looked a fierce Northmen but at the least he was presentable now.

    ****

Ser Lorch stood near his Lord Lannister among the Westermen, the taste of blood had finally left his lips but now he was itchy, itchy everywhere, perhaps because he hadn't killed in a month or two. Outwardly he stood tall and handsome, his raven locks lazily falling to the sides of his face and his golden eyes scanning the crowd. He was here because it was expected of him not because it truly mattered in his little world, whether the Stag or the Dragon sat the Iron Throne mattered little to him, because he served neither..he served the Lions.

Sandor was losing valuable time. He should be on the trail right now, not wasting time at something as useless as a coronation. Kings come and go and it doesn't make any difference. This king would pay for the Targaryens though, and that's what counted. Sandor hadn't had his pockets lined for some time now. He could only flip a whore a few coppers now and he was sick of buxom wenches with no teeth. He inhaled sharply before he gave a reply. "Let Gareth come with me then." He might not prove utterly useless after all.

The slight clank of Lord Lannisters armor was made as Lucion turned almost fully to look at Sandor Clegane. A serious and stern look was upon the man's face. After a moment, Lucion just quietly nodded and turned slowly to look at the coronation. His voice remains calm and quiet for Sandor and those nearby to hear.

Take my son and do what the King requested of you, Sandor. Just know that if they are beyond the reach of Westeros, there will be no use in pursuing them elsewhere. As long as they are not near Westeros, the King will most likely be at ease. Hopefully that won't be the case and we can end this matter soon.

"Aye, m'lord." He said in a deep growl. He hoped the pillaging wasn't over in truth. Maybe Lucion had some more enemies to ferret out. As he moved to clear the Sept his dead eye stare fell on the Tullys. He wondered if the Riverlands had any good loot.

Minisa Tully sneered at the man, inwardly wondering what it would be like to be picked up and kissed by such a brute.

At the coronation of King Robert Baratheon, only a small group of Hightowrs were in attendance led by the Hightower heir, Ser Garth Hightower “Greysteel”. Lord Hightower was blaming an illness for his absence although in truth, he had no desire to attend the coronation of the Baratheon King. He had more important thigns to worry about, working diligently day and night to restore the prosperity of his lands that were hit the hardest by the Ironborn raids. Ser Garth really did not want to be here either. He had lost to Robert at the Grassy Vale and being in close proximity to the new King was slightly unnerving for the Hightower heir.

The Hightower was dressed in the finest robes made from the finest silks that money could buy in colors of white, grey and red, the primary Hightower colors. The men had the Hightower sigil proudly displayed upon their chest while the women had a smaller sigil combined with a green and gold rose. Following their Lord Paramounts orders, the men also bore rainbow capes, although the Hightower ones were not as bright as their fellow Reachmen preferring instead to display seven large stars as a sign of their piety.

Sandor bowed and left the hall without looking back. Sighting Polly Sandor spat at him "Lucion wants to see your master."---

    --

Several minutes later the Mountain entered the Sept and made his way over to Lucion. "My Lord."

Lucion heard the deep voice and lumbering footsteps of Ser Gregor. He didn't even need to look, but still spoke as he did to Sandor.

After the coronation tonight, Ser Gregor, meet me in the Westerland's camp outside of the city's limits. We have much to speak about...

He then waves his hand, dismissing Ser Gregor for now.

The Tullys turned, almost in unison, observing with some displeasure as the Lannisters and their lackeys chattered on.

[ooc: Hopefully LD will move forwards soon...]

Among the Crownlands delegation stood Lord Rykker, his walk still displaying a limp from the wounds incurred when driving the Rivermen from Rosby. He eyed the Westerman delegation closely, eventually spotting Lord Harmund Lefford, the father of his current refugee Ser Godric Lefford. He looked old, late forties at least, and was accompanied by what must be his son and grandchildren. Raymar, was it? Godric had mentioned him: a cold and hard man, when Harmund passed the rule of Raymar would not be one of compassion.

He would have to find a way of discreetly telling Harmund of his son's fate without giving too much away, lest he endanger Godric's life in the process. The last thing Rykker wanted was Westermen at the gates of Duskendale thinking themselves rightful custodians of a man whose crimes are wholly imagined.

Lord Royce attended the coronation with his family members. The members of House Royce like every other noble family were dressed in their best garments to attend such a wonderful occasion. Lord Royce slowly and quietly scanned the room, just taking quick glimpses of the various Lords in attendance. The Reachmen stood out amongst the crowd wearing outraegeous rainbow cloaks. “How silly of them.” He thought. “What kind of message are you trying to send?”

    [ooc: To push this forwards...]

Robert strode down the Great Hall between the crowds, under a canopy of raised swords, towards where the High Septon stood waiting with the crown. Splendidly armoured and triumphant looking, he turned to face the crowd, his soon-to-be subjects.

The High Septon held the crown aloft over Robert's head and spoke loudly.

" May the Warrior grant him courage and protect him in these perilous times. May the Smith grant him strength that he might bear this heavy burden And may the Crone, she that knows the fate of all men, show him the path he must walk and guide him through the dark places that lie ahead. In the light of the Seven, I now proclaim Robert of the House Baratheon, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men and Lord of the Seven Kingdoms."

The crown was placed gently on Robert's head, before the High Septon cried out once more.

    "Long may he reign!"

The crowd returned the final statement in unison, the loudest voices coming from the Stormlanders, Rivermen, Valesmen and Northmen. Westermen, though technically rebels, did not seem any more enthusiastic than the Reachmen, Dornish or Crownlanders. No one even knew if an Ironborn was present.
