What a collection of delightfully racist posts. I love it!
Well youth unemployment is high here and nowadays most young people would go to Australia without even trying to find jobs here. It's an exotic country on the otherside of the world with a reputation for friendliness and hot weather, why would they not want to go to Australia. My sister and her boyfriend live in Australia now. Also I think the Australian media may be exagerating the 'Irish problem' out of proportion, countries are always negative about immigrants.
Absolutely untrue. England didn't pacify Ireland so much as brutally oppress it, and the only way they ever encouraged the Irish to spread on a global scale was by forcing millions to flee the country as refugees.
You're saying that the mistreatment of Ireland should make Ireland a horrible country but I actually think the opposite is true, we tend to feel like equals to other countries that are suffering the same things as we used to and help them. If you look at those listings you'll see that Ireland tops the scale for sheltering refugees, encouraging free trade, giving food aid, giving humanitarian aid, donating to foreign charities. Because we had been the victims of violent conflict we don't do the same to others and have a reputation as victims of Empire rather than perpetrators of it, for this reason we play a big part in UN peace keeping missions and don't take sides in conflicts. However we do tend to lean towards the underdog such as Palestine.
The reason why we are so internationally minded is because Irish people are EVERYWHERE. I would say that we are probably the most dispersed race of people on the planet. Now obviously this is born of a bad thing since we didn't exactly leave Ireland voluntarily as we were either chased out or forced out by poor conditions, our population went from 8 million in 1840 to only 2 million in 1920.
We also seem to score highly in culture and I suspect that is because of our reputation as a literary nation, but have you ever read Irish literature or poetry? It is very, very dark. They say that trauma breeds creativity and we are very creative.
