So, yesterday I saw The Grand Budapest Hotel.
A month ago I saw (twice, I am a weird guy) Moonrise Kingdom.
And several years ago I saw The Royal Tenembaums and Rushmore.

What happens with this guy? A similar aesthetic and style in all his films. Thereby loses all alleged (highly sought in my opinion) originality. The feeling that he is trying to say "something deep" or he is trying to thrill you. As far as I am concerned (call me stupid psychopath), epic fail, Mr. Anderson.

Can someone defend this presumptuous overrated guy? I've gone crazy and he's just a guy who makes nice films?

I really like Moonrise Kingdom, although most prefer The Royal Tenenmbaums, i found it supremely boring.
Moonrise Kingdom is fun. Its got that aesthetic style you talk about, but its interesting and entertaining at the same time.
I really don't think he's trying too hard to say something deep, he's just being postmodern for its own sake IMO.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, but i agree that he's not the best. I guess its a stylistic thing, so each to their own. My girlfriend loves him and everything he's done.

Oh and "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou"?
I never got past the first 30 minutes.

I think you're thinking too much about it. I've always found his films intriguing and amusing, usually with some subtle message about life or whatever. Have a read:

They can be quite hard to get into due to their whimsical nature but it's usually worth it. A similar aesthetic and style in all his films doesn't make him unoriginal, he has an original style that influences most of his movies, just like Hitchcock or Scorsese or even people like Da Vinci and Beethoven. Would be silly to expect a completely unique product every time.

Check out his movies. None makes films like these without heavy personal investment. You can like or dislike his style but it is pretty clear that these are pretty personal projects.
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "

This. That's just his style. He's awesome at making dark comedies. If you don't like it, you just probably wont like his movies. Many don't. I personally love them. Life Aquatic is hands down my favorite followed closely by Tennenbaums. If you want something that is a little aesthetically different check out his first movie, Bottlerocket.

The Grand Budapest Hotel was one of my least favorite works of his. It was just lacking in the laughs department IMO and most people i know that like his movies felt the same. I keep meaning to go back and watch Fantastic Mr. Fox, as i haven't seen that one in a while and only saw it once.

I did not mean that he was commercial. I mean he seems to me a product manufacturer (of very well elaborated nice films).

Edit, maybe digressing. A few days ago I saw This must be the place. Sean Penn, dont know who is the director. Not an excellent film, but a real film. Much better than any precious (preciosista) film. (IMO)

So to you an artist that paints his pictures in the same personal style is a product manufacturer? My point is that he jumps stories and topics a lot, but what you complain about is his personal art style he approaches them with. That's a weird complaint because that's the essence of any artist. You complain about the same thing in Alfred Hitchcock movies but it's not really a very valid complaint beyond personal opinion because it is rather obvious to me that this is the very personal way how these guys compose their movies.

It's actual artwork precisely because he is so very particular about what he wants to show, tell and do in every single shot and scene. In movies it is kind of rare by now given the size of the production teams involved.

I've loved all of his movies but I have not seen Grand Budapest yet. Finally saw Moonrise Kingdom the other day and I loved it. I often put Life Aquatic on before bed and fall asleep to it.

But it comes down to you either love his films or they just don't sit with you. My wife couldn't figure out Darjeeling Limited but I liked it. The subtleties were there. It was meant to make you uncomfortable and I got that. Wife likes his films for laughs but Darjeeling wasn't that funny, well it was to me, but you know, in a Wes Anderson kind of way.

Anyway, yeah, I'm looking forward to Grand Budapest coming on demand soon.

It sucks that Gene Hackman had such a rotten experience making Tennenbaums because i would have really liked to see him in some more of Wes Anderson's movies.

I don't see this at all.

I think it's as simple as Wes Anderson has a specific "quirky" aesthetic that he likes to film in and fans of his enjoy, so he keeps doing it because he still enjoys it.

For me, I love the IDEA of Wes Anderson movies, and I always love the trailers for Wes Anderson movies, but I often find myself a little bored when I actually watch the movies.
