Default Steam users does this work?

Just want to know before I buy this game on Steam... I lost m CDs and its on sale on steam... but I know mods and steam do not get along so...

"Ok after an eternity of work, many lives lost and clones created in the procsess, global warming happening and destroying the moon, and monkeys becoming the dominating race on the planet, while hurtling towards the sun I give you to you to make SS 6.3 work.

Give all the rep you possibly can to EXAS for figuring out the solution, which was really obvious, since I hadn't palyed m2tw I even forgot the aprt of thsi workaorund, chaning the command line you put in the steam settings /facepalm, seriously even if it kills you, give tons of rep to MEXAS, so here it is, my original fix with Mexas' amazing work that somehow I didn't realsie I had to do:

    Try...

    1. In the m2tw folder you should see 3 exes. "m2.exe", "kingdoms.exe" and "launcher.exe"
    2. Create a folder called "backup" and place the "launcher.exe" in that
    3. Rename the "kingdoms.exe" to "launcher.exe"
    4. Now go to your "Steam Games" list and right click kingdoms, select "properties" and then "set launch options"
    5. In the box that appears paste the bit you copied(in SS 6.3 case it will be @mods\SS6.3\default.cfg)
    6. As long as you always launch from kingdoms in steam and not the SS 6.3 shortcut it should work.

To play vanilla kingdoms again take away the launch line and rename "launcher.exe" back to "kingdoms.exe" and put the "launcher.exe" back in the main folder.

+rep to norsca for original fix.

+2x more rep gain to MEXAS for being so amazingly awesome =P

EDIT: News just in, apparently you don't get the full 6.3 experience by bypassing the ss6.3 exe, but untill I get it installed and tinekr with it the above will ahve to be a temporary workaround.
EDIT 2: Gord says because the cfg file references the BAI swapper, its fine, but need someone who knows this stuff to confirm

    Kind Regards
    Will

Anyone try this out? or know if it works? I would love to have this mod again.... just dont want to get stuck with vanilla M2tw

I am not exactly sure what your asking. If your only asking if you can have mods with steam version of M2TW then yes, you certainly can.

It does work (i tried it along other methods) but is a utter waste of time when you can simply make a "steam shortcut" to the SS_launcher.exe located in SS6.3 mod folder and it will make use of the embedded extra features such as randomized Battle AI and main menu BGM.

    Here this should help: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...2219-YDJV-5557

I dont think the BAI swapper works without using SS_launcher.exe as is a VBscript that does the swaping, for TAWT the script is loose and lauched from a batch file, for SS (i suspect as i cannot entirely prove it) they embedded the VBscript inside along with the Batch code that launches kingdoms.exe and reads the extra features in the SS cfg.

So in short the method in the OP works for launching SS but without the extra features, the proper way with Steam is the Steam Shortcut easily done following the tutorial in the link above.

Hrmm interesting Meloo so essentially I should be able to do this with any mod that I wish on Med2tw just by adding the Mod's exe... thanks! + rep for sure

After me goofing with the installation a bit I havent had any kind of problem with Steam and it runs SS6.4 perfectly

Edit: steam won't show you as being in game, but that's the only thing

Can confirm, my steam time for medieval 2 total war stopped counting after installing SS but its not enough of a bother to bring me to change anything.

In my M2TW folder, I only have 1 exe.

    "Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps >common >Medieval II Total War"

the only .exe is "medieval2.exe" the rest is mostly .dll's.

You guys think this warrants fixing?

#1 Go to your default medieval 2 folder,

    #2 Copy "Medieval2" https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...2008.48.56.png

#3 Paste it in the same folder and rename the copy to "Kingdoms" https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...2008.49.44.png

#4 Go to your SS folder and run SS Launcher as admin. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...2008.55.23.png

#5 Enjoy, border-less mode + steam support now.

Yeah, that should work with base stainless steel at least. I personally can not live without the border-less mode while playing SS since I like to alt+tab and watch a few minutes of a movie while waiting inbetween the turn times.
