    Icon5 [Research] Campaign Map

I've set this thread up for the awesome cddsullivan and neusaap.uit.brazil to have a working space concerning the construction of the campaign setup. I will support them with what I can and invite everybody else to contribute to the cause.

    Authentic Ancient World

    Concept of the Campaign Framework
It is not an easy thing to construct a complete campaign map. There is a lot of research involved, but it is the foundation on which everything else of any total conversion modification builds on. It is even more of a challenge, especially because we are looking to create an even more detailed map than the current Grand Campaign map. Yes, we do expect CA to release their TEd map editing tools for Rome II at some point. So, there is need for concepts concerning:

    Provinces

Given the release and characteristics of TEd map editing tools:

    • Will there still be an UI limitation of how many regions a province can contain?
    • If yes: How many and which new province groups would we need to introduce?

    Regions

    • How do we have to rename the existing regions?

Given the release and characteristics of TEd map editing tools:

    • How could we split those existing regions into even more detailed regions?
    • To which of the new provinces groups do we have to assign our new regions to?

    Cities

    • How do we have to rename the existing cities?

Given the release and characteristics of TEd map editing tools:

    • To which of the new regions do we have to assign our new cities to?

    Factions (Basic)

    • Which factions did inhabit our campaign map in 217 BC?
    • Where were those factions located in 217 BC?
    • What culture did they belong to in 217 BC?
    • How could we best incorporate those factions in our campaign framework?

Given the release and characteristics of TEd map editing tools:

    • Which factions did inhabit our campaign map in 217 BC, but couldn't be implemented yet.

    Factions (Advanced)

    • How were the factions relations, respectively their diplomatic status towards their neighbors?
    • Which factional political parties or dynasties played a vital role in 217 BC?
    • Which factional standing armies played a vital role in 217 BC?
    • Which factional characters played a vital role in 217 BC?

    Cultures

    • What was the approximate cultural and religiously mix within our regions and provinces?
    • Which are the native owners and inhabitants of regions that were subjugated by foreign factions by 217 BC?

    Resources

    • Which wonders were present?
    • Which natural resources did our regions contain?
    • Which resources or manufactural goods where our regions famous for?
    • Which of our regions were famous for being a mercenary hub and which mercenaries were hired there?

    (!) Climate and Geography

    • To which climate zone do we have to assign our regions?
    • What were the major characteristics of the regional geography?

    Default [Collaboration] Open Community Projects

Partner Thread: Authentic Ancient World's Modding Crew

Sometimes, while we are working on Authentic Ancient World we do discover aspects that exceed our current resources, but are perfectly suited to become future community projects. Those aspects will be presented below in a To-Do List which we will be updating continuously. If you see anything you find exciting and which does suit your skills, please feel free to take over those jobs. We definitely do want those tasks to be implemented sooner and later, since those aspects would make a great addition to the depth and immersion level of Authentic Ancient World. We do want Authentic Ancient World do become one of the most artistic, authentic, deep and immersive modifications, not only for you people out there, but also because we do want to play our own modification, embrace its world and be able to say: "That is exactly how we wanted it to be!"

Authentic Ancient World: Artwork, Logos and Signatures (Completion: 25%)

We are still looking for skilled artwork designers, our final Authentic Ancient World logo and a solid selection of signatures.

    Credits

Many thanks go to billydilly for his awesome artwork and the first community contribution!

Authentic Ancient World: Culture Specific UI Elements (Completion: 0%)

We have already created a complete new UI Design, but how awesome would it be if the white marble skins would have been made to be culture or even faction specific?

Default Re: [Announcements] News around Authentic Ancient World

Quick Update: Currently, about half of our team is working on their own projects, interestingly enough that most of the projects are aiming for pretty much the same what we want to do (which was the reason why I was aiming to bring the right people on board). As I said it is totally fine to pursuit your own projects and I am very thankful for your offers to contribute.

However, we do now have the chance to start to roll out the following projects step by step:

1.) music (a first beta should be ready soonish)

2.) construction of the campaign framework

    3.) building chains

    4.) roman overhaul (roster)

If we all focus with our energy on those topics only and create first draws and concepts we might take a leap in a few weeks or months (releasing a epic music update, the complete campaign framework, completely new building chains and a first very in-depth roman overhaul and roster? how awesome of PR would this be?). If you want me to do the research and concept myself and I should call you for work once I am ready, well than we will release the same content, but it will take 3-4-5-6x times more time until we release all of those current projects.

And a word about the releases. Once the campaign framework is set, the first roster released, the major building chains reworked... well than everything else will be a lot of fun. Since we than will know how to overhaul a roster the RSII and AAW style (and having a complete template and reference point) it will be much easier and faster to work on next roster updates. Our campaign framework and our buildings will form a solid backbone to the mod where we than can start to mod all the minor aspects around those major aspects.

If you have any questions, let me know.

    Cheers
    Alec

PS: I'll also speak to those people who are not on the dev forum yet about that topic. At the end I think if we focus on particular projects all will be just fine.

Default [Collaboration] Authentic Ancient World's Modding Crew

    Partner Thread: Open Community Projects

This thread is simply all about our modding crew. Since the organizational spadework has been mostly accomplished now, I do now want to begin to officially introduce our new members in here. This will hopefully have the side effect that we will not just be those Authentic Ancient World developers, but to bring everything to a more personal level. Over all we are all humans who conduct this project in our leisure time looking for a friendly and rewarding atmosphere where we be able to occupy ourselves with everything around art and ancient history and exchange ourselves with people alike.

    Join our Standing Crew
We do want to make Authentic Ancient World as deep and immersive as it can get. Therefore we are always looking for:

    • (!) Artists
    • (!) Musicians
    • (!) Writers
    • Administrators
    • Beta Testers
    • Community Managers
    • Designers (Artwork, Photoshop)
    • DB Editors
    • Modelers & Texturers
    • Researchers
    • Scriptors
    • Video Artists (Intros, Trailers)

Note: You do NOT have to become part of your standing crew to contribute to the cause. Take a look at the open community projects.

Default Recruiting Tullius Cicero and JFC

    Hi guys,

Anyone with an official Total War forum account would be the greatest if he can take this task over: Visit the guy who made those fine UI design concepts. I do want to give it a try to recruit him for our two design jobs (especially the one for the faction and culture specific UI designs) listed at our Open Community Projects thread. Unfortunately, I have abandoned the official forum deliberately when CA charged about 4-5 Euro for BoW That moment all hope was lost for this company.

    Cheers
    Alec

PS: In his thread on the official forum JFC (another awesome designer) commented his thread (post #5). Try to see if JFC would agree upon creating some of his awesome signatures!

    Ok, that's great.
Illyria is the next step in drawing the map about macedon. The campaign starts in the aftermath of the second Illyrian war. In which the Ardiaei had a huge role under their king Pinnes. So I think we should preserve them as a client state of Rome, since they had to pay reparations to them, and I don't know a better way of simulating that.
Pulpudeva is clearly not under Macedonian control. I suggest it to become either under the Odryssian Kingdom or an self made faction called the bessi, an thracian tribe who lived there. I believe the Odryssians lost most of their power long before this scene, so I guess that the Bessi would be the best choice.
I can't find much about the rest of Illyria, so I guess we should keep it the way it was, if anyone knows something about these parts of Illyria in this timeperiod, that would be awesome. Note that Macedon under king Phillipus V wanted to subjugate the Ardiaei and if they would have had the chance the entirity of Illyria.
Some links to additional information about the macedonian and Illyrian wars:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illyrian_Wars
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Macedonian_war

I found this really usefull and it makes a lot clear about the political instability of Greece at that time.

    Default [Workshop] Hloeric's Textures

Non Steam Link and Steam Links have been updated, non steam .packfile will now allow people to see the retextured praetorian guard and eagle cohort along side the armoured legionaries
Hello all, a quick update, Authentic Ancient World retexture test is now a steam front page mod thank you all and its receiving great feedback
    UPDATES
    - Praetorian Guard, Armoured Legionaries and Eagle Cohort now completely retextured (excluding officers)
    - Praetorian Guard colours have been changed and now use the historical black scutum
    - Eagle Cohort has 2 newly retextured helmets and 2 original shield retextures
    - Praetorians added with new retexture Lorica Hamata, helmet and the blue praetorian historical stars and moons shield
Load a custom battle with armoured legionaries, praetorian guard and eagle cohort and any other units to see a comparison between the Hloeric textures and vanilla.
    Non Steam -- https://www.dropbox.com/s/wcl9i2b3wb...ture_test.pack
    Steam -- http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...+ancient+world
click link > download .packfile > place the .packfile in file path (computer>local disk(c: )>program files>steam>steamApps>common>Total War rome 2>Data) > start game and enable aaw_ra_texture_test in the Mod Manger. Recommend to turn off all other mods while you test this in custom battle to avoid any conflictions and guaranty it works as intended.

And a little taster if you get a better screen shot feel free to post it but remember to put the spoiler brackets around it to keep space taken up by pictures

At the moment im happily plodding along chipping away at the roman texture pack that will be used in AAW and here is a preview and to be honest im quite happy with it all
The shield patterns for the 28 Augustan specific legions are now finished, I can start working on the different shields the legionaires will use now that all that early scutums to be used by the centurions are completed.
Hope you like the shields guys and gals

    ROMAN SHIELD RETEXTURE AND PATTERNS
This is a small preview of over 115+ imperial and polybian shields to come hope you guys like
The shields in these pictures are the early scutum to be used by centurions, the legions soldiers will either use a scutum, augustan scutum or a the auxillary shaped shield that they historically would of used, the standard bearer will have a different type of shield but everyone will have their respective legion specific shield patterns on those different types of shields.
E.g: Legion 13 - centurion (roman_early_scutum), Legionaries (roman_augustan_scutum), standard bearer (roman_aux_shield_a) but everyone will have the legion 13 specific pattern

This is the site I took it from, looks promising as a source of info:
    http://www.historyandcivilization.co...---Tables.html
Sure, maps aren't the only we can take from it.

Alright, this is a bit dissapointing, I know, and I'll be going on in search for a better one. But it is a start.

The biggest problem is that there were not much cities in Arabia, since those tribes there were nomads. If the Romans campaigned to the south of the peninsula, they would most likely have found cities themselves while campaigning into Arabia. Nomads didn't build cities, and camps didn't have names. The cities which they had, are on this map.
Civilizations build on city by city which merged together were simply not present in Arabia back then, or at least only at the coast of the red sea and the Persian Gulf. This will be a problem we will be confronted later with when we try to find a map of Russia and it's brotherstates, there were also mostly nomads.

This is great, I'll look if this site might give more usefull information. The only bad part of it is that it is not a picture, but that's a problem we can fix:

And Aria, and surroundings; bit dissapointing, but a lot of Bactrian cities are showed, which might be usefull...
