    Default A little visual horror that needs to be fixed

    I am experiencing a little bug that appears on very late units(currently playing into the 15th century) wearing heavy plate armor, namely units with armet helmets;

    As you see, it makes knights look like the nurses from Silent Hill.

    Every attempt of mine to fix this has failed, I fear the texture files themselves are corrupt.
    So...
    Help me, please?

    Venetian generals bodyguard(late), also happens to Genoese bodyguard(late) and maybe some others that wear that armor.

    sure is not something messed up in your build? cause i used those last nite and textures were all ok...the only anomaly i spotted were pistoliers with some jetblack helmets.

    any particular submod you're using?

    I did not notice anything wrong with the files themselves which is rather strange.

    Could you please post the Venetian bodyguard files from your build so I can test and verify?

    Ok, I did some tests and the results are as such(so far);

    Venice, Genoa, Sicily, Papal states;

    Broken lances(+dismounted), generals bodyguard and Genoese Patricians have shown the exact same texture corruption.
    But here's the catch, it only appears on the pre-armor upgrade and the first armor upgrade unit(the "no shield on card" and "brown shield on card" unit) while the silver and gold upgraded units do not have any texture defects.

    I find this rather strange and will probably have to switch to the upgraded battle models for every single unit that has this problem.

    Also, a clean reinstall is out of the question considering how much micromodding I did on my game build.

    If someone would be so kind as to post the texture files here so I can use them and try to fix this problem that would be mighty

    Edit;

    Testing is finished, the late bodyguards of Castille, Aragon and Portugal also have the same issue, other units and factions are fine,
    I am at a loss of words...I have no idea what might have caused this, my modding of the game build had nothing to do with textures at all...

    Second Edit;

    The Bodyguard of the Romans is also corrupt

    The problem is most likely in the battle_models.modeldb

    I did a lot of tweaking and fixing in that file for the bugfix compilation...so is possible i fixed them, but is weird that such visual horror wasn't noticed and reported before.

    You may be right since I have the Bugfix compilation installed.

    However, isn't the battle_models file just a instruction file that tells the game which texture file to use for each unit?
    Then why would the problem be in that file?
    Shouldn't the fault be in the texture files themselves?

    if the BMMDB is pointing to an incorrect texture file it could cause this visual glitch

    I just verified and none of my fixes touched those units, neither does the bugfix alter textures aside the hospitaller plate armour fix, so this is not caused by the bugfix compilation.

    these are probably the texture files you are looking for:

    data/unit_models/_Units/LN_Gothic_RN_Plate/textures/LN_gothic_RN_plate_faction.texture
    data/unit_models/_Units/EN_Pplate_Plate/textures/mtw2_EN_Pplate_faction.texture

    mtw2_EN_Pplate_faction.texture are all included with SS however LN_gothic_RN_plate_faction.texture are referenced from the M2 vanilla.

    I dont know if M2 register changes done in the main "Medieval II Total War/data" folder before reading those in "Medieval II Total War/mod/modename", if so it could be that some texture files of another mod was left there messing things up?

    EDIT:
    Actually after looking again at the screenies, the textures giving you problem are not the body armour but the extra props/shields/helmets so look for:
    data/unit_models/AttachmentSets/Final Heater_faction_diff.texture
    data/unit_models/AttachmentSets/Final Heater Special_faction_diff.texture
    which are included with SS6.4 so no external reference here

    BTW here some screenies from my build and see I dont have that problem at all

    Whelp, all my attempts have failed so I have decided to switch all the units to the upgraded models that have no texture issues.
    The only unit that I could not fix is the Roman generals bodyguard which does not have an uncorrupted model.

    So if anyone could upload at least the Roman bodyguard files that would be neat

    dont you still have SS installation files?
    why dont you just install a new SS in a separate folder and copy over the files you need and then delete that new SS folder or keep it in a super compressed 7z which reduces it from 7GB to no more than 1.8GB, then you have a back up in case you screw up something else when modding.

    That is among the first things that I tried, the new installation had the same bug...so I posted here for help after some other attempts also failed.

    I reckoned it could be a corrupted download, but I wanted to try everything else first because of my slow internet download speed.
