So I'm not a very good total war player. I understood that Archaeon's invasion was one of massive proportions, and I thought my body was ready.

My body wasn't ready.

I remember getting bored for a bit and I used 'toggle_fow' to check Kislev, to see how it was doing.

What I saw has scarred me for life. I can't remember how many stacks there were, but it seemed like 20+.

Meanwhile, I had around 7~ total stacks if you drummed up every troop in my duchy.

How the heck do I defeat it?

Despite the empire being weaker as individuals against the majority of the factions in the warhammer world, they are also the most diverse. And in their arsenal is the best fire power and artillery anyone can get. Learn to turn 1 army into the power of 3 by adopting tactics and formation.

For one thing, powerful artillery like the hellblaster and rockets are VERY reliable and can take out entire regiments of men. But if you use every unit for its purpose, it becomes a very powerful defensive force.

I find that the tactic I find most useful is the classic Tercio formation. Elf spearmen on the front line with a strong defensive stance, with swordsmen or halberds behind to support, and archers and artillery to rain hell on top of the oncoming forces. Guns are the most efficient weapon against chaos, but demand alot from its environment to keep a constant fire. A little trick to turn the tides would also be to unlock your special units.

Warrior priests, witch hunters, wizards, all are very capable against the dark hordes and would be a great addition to your armies.

The issue is, is that I can recruit too few decent units.

I certainly have the available cash, but by the time I organize a few armies, Chaos will have overrun half the empire.

Jaymax, remember that the hordes of the Grimgor will also come from south about + 15 stacks - i just love this mod for those moments <3.

But as an Empire - remember that the Chaos forces and the Greenskins won't be able to recrut and recover their armies fast from the conquered lands, their armies are powerfull, Tzeentch sorcerers. Deamon prices, deamons, the Everchoosen etc etc . But you have an allies - the rest of the provices, also u have powerfull Sigmar warrior priests, the tanks from Nunl and the rest of the power-special units (wizards,Ogres).
If u are some northen provice then u will have reaaaallly big trouble, of a south one - also becuse Grimgore but as a middle one just move you'r armies to help the allies and try fight battles 2:1 .


ALWAYS focus the Chaos artillery/sorcers and greenskin shamans, they will turn you'r armies intro dust if not stopped by quick cavalery attack from flanks or an artillery mass bombard.

Many of those stacks will end up defeated by the AI, rebelling, or sent off to odd places. You're less doomed than you think.

A quick question, if I slaughter the filthy Archeon, will the invasion be hindered/stopped at all?

These waves are best dealt with by ignoring them, let them break on your fortifications and defend to all of your ability but do not engage them in the field.
Let them spread out, then reconquer and deal with the remnants after they have been ground down by the other imperial states, some occasional field battles might be in order if you are certain of a crushing victory.

Sending small armies to support your allies can also be very helpfull, though it will almost certainly end in a defeat, you will have the chance to deal them some heavy losses with the support of your allies and with your superior human tactics.

Losing a city or two is of little consequence, they will eventually spread out and their conquests will be
far apart and unable to replenish their numbers.

Due to game mechanics killing the Archaon will not have any effect other than removing a strong leader from the enemy ranks.
