What is going on with this unit? Can anyone clear it up?

They are missile infantry. If you could have them throw axes, they would. Instead they throw javelins and use axes in melee.

This is similar to some other units in the game who do the same thing.

something is mixed up:

its a infanty unit, the curisi are a iberian unit, possible medium infantry. Will be fixed with the next Revision.

Yes all the Marine troops are Marian EXCEPT Jay_Marine_Legionary_cohort & Jay_Marine_Evocati
