Representing the Holy Roman Empire in ETW is difficult because of the faction cap and impossibility (for now) of changing province boundaries/numbers of provinces. There also seems to be a faction cap which means if you want to add a new faction you must remove another (including emergents).
It is clear Germany in 1600 tilted far more towards Protestantism than in 1700. Saxony in ETW has Catholicism as its official religion, yet this conversion only came about in 1696 to allow Augustus II to accede to the Polish-throne. Saxony itself and its king remained of different faith's right up to and since the 1918 revolutions in Germany. If possible I would like to rectify this problem by replacing it with a Protestant Saxony.
Wurttemburg in contrast went back and forth between Catholic/Protestant rulers like 16th century England but nonetheless in 1600 was under Protestant rule. I have found that changing the faction religion in the startpos Faction Area does not seem to fully work in the game. The faction religion is changed on the control panel, but still they only produce Catholic buildings and diplomatic relations still treat them as Catholic. That is why my solution is replacing them with a new Protestant faction of the same name.
In theory I would also like to make Brandenburg and Prussia separate factions as their personal union didn't begin until 1624.
And of course the faction cap means the more factions we make the fewer we can make later e.g. Moldavia, Transylvania, Bohemia. I'm thinking about making Bohemia an emerging faction.
How do you want Germany represented in the game? Do you approve my suggestions or not?
