Icon1 10 Things You Like in Rome II

Hello there, a while back I did a video about the 10 Things You Want in Rome II well now that it has been over 9 months since the initial Rome II release, and a lot of the initial "hate" has died down, I thought I'd simply ask what are the 10 things you like in Rome II.

These don't have to be features too unique to Rome II, they could be features that were in previous TW titles that you feel work exceptionally well in Rome II. (the reason for this list is really to see what worked well and would apply in future TW titles, so don't choose something thats extremely obvious please)

I will compile everyones answers into a list and then make a video about it, with the hopes that we will see more of what worked in the future.

How I'll compile the answers: depending on where you rank you're item, I will give it points, then after reading everyone's responses after a few days I will add up all the points for the different things and we will have our list! It can be anything from UI, mods, terrain, battles, graphics, the map, or any systems in the game at all.
Also write about why you are choosing some of them with long answers if you can, if you don't want to then that's fine you can simply just make the list, also try not be that guy that writes something "funny" and invalidates their whole answer.

    1 - 10 points
    2 - 9 points
    3 - 8 points
    4 - 7 points
    5 - 6 points
    6 - 5 points
    7 - 4 points
    8 - 3 points
    9 - 2 points
    10 - 1 point

To kick things off, I'll give my top 10. If you can't think of 10, then give as many as you can.

1 - Army Stances - I like the idea of forced march, fortification and raiding a lot. I'd like to see it expanded upon, like an ambush stance that you can move slowly with, or a scouting stance or something along those lines.
2 - The provincial system - I really like how provinces work with edicts and things, and love being able to see your regions & buildings at a glance. I don't like the limited amount of building chains or unified tax system, but the province system is cool.
3 - Line of Sight in Battles - I really enjoy the line of sight system, I think it's a great addition that adds a little more depth to the battles.
4 - Tactical map in Battles - The tactical map for me is something I really like, though it isn't that useful. It's good to take a quick glance at stuff, but I hope to see it improved upon.
5 - Traditions - Army traditions is a great idea, I like how armies can rank up, I feel though once they are destroyed the should lose their "legacy" however. Raising a veteran legion doesn't really make sense to me.
6 - Imperium / Limits on armies and agents - Again I think this was a smart addition that forces you to be a little more strategic if you are a big nation.
7 - Land and Sea battles - The idea of these is intriguing, very rarely I've had this kind of battle where it actually works out, but when it does it's a lot of fun. Perhaps more settlements with larger harbors in the future could make it more interesting.
8 - General Recruiting to the army - A smaller thing that has a big affect, I much prefer recruiting to an army than sending little units around the place.
9 - Unit Cam - I love the cinematic feel of the unit camera I'd like to see this return in future with maybe a few more angles for the troops or just more control on the camera in general to make battles more cinematic
10 - "Emotion" on the battlefield - This is supposed to be in the game but we all know it isn't, I'd love it if troops did actually talk to each other visibly and screamed out to their friends when they die.

IMHO, it should be unique to rome 2, or I will say : 1-turn based campaign with real time battle 2- a game to build your empire ect.... it will looks ridiculous doesn't it ? ^^

1- campaign map: beautiful with a lot of detail
    2- army traditions
    3- edicts
    4- army stances

Well thats true enough it's more for what you want in Rome II to be in the next TW game, so some cross over of things is to be expected, I think the core formula will still stay the same I suppose.

DarrenTotalWar... you set a mean table with this thread. Had you asked the opposite, you would have gotten it a thousandfold. I don't know if I can reach #10, but here goes:

    1) The campaign map I guess
    2) Quick and easy diplomacy (no sending diplomats all around, though it had its fun)
    3) How the Makedonian phalanx works/kills (at the moment)
    4) General/army leveling up
    5) The close up unit camera

Some other features I like are delivered by mods, so they don't count.

I've never asked the 10 things you hate, but did ask the 10 things you want, which most of the answers were to fix the things they hate

I'm under the impression you asked for 10 things already in the game. What I would want, can easily reach #10

    1. I like the large amount of unit variety in Rome II
    2. Rome II in my mind is one of the most historically accurate total war games, certainly when compared with the original
    3. Graphics, everyone hates them but I think they can be really mind blowing
    4. I like the sheer variety of animations, they add a really epic feel to battles
    5. The Assembly kit, a real good symbol of outreach to the modding community and a great way to get people into modding
    6. Ancient wonders, they are just plain awesome and add a lot to battles
7.The cinematic camera gives a new perspective to battles
    8. Cities and towns, they are complex, full of variety and ambient effects. I love besieging them
    9. The new provinces system, gives the campaign map more complexity for me
    10. Its hard to describe, but units in Rome II feel like they are full of real people, they fight duels, yell, when they retreat its disorderly and chaotic, just like a real rout.

    1. Ability to mod 40 units to army
    2. No big slave faction, each region has an individual faction
    3. The graphics are good
    4. Ability to name armies
    5. The map density of CiG and HatG.
    6. The unique cities like Rome and Alexandria are pretty nice
    7. The concept of mixed land/naval city assaults

TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.

There is a complaint thread, not every thread needs to turn into a anti-rome II murderfest.

    2.Very Detailed Campaign Map
    3.Ability To Play Naval Battles
4.A Chance to Play a 40 Unit Battle In a Single Map
    5.Immersive Voice-Overs
    6.Different Types of Unit Formations

All of these are the features I enjoyed/appreciated that RTW1 haven't.

I like the fact that someone is making Rome 2 and the TW series at all. There are a lot of reasons to be stunned and bemused by certain CA actions, but they still did this.

    1. Transparency of Diplomacy. You can see how your actions affect other factions perception of you and act accordingly.
    2. Graphics. Gorgeous units, towns and environments. I have been able to play on extreme settings (with large army size) on my old 570GTX with only the occasional slow down.
    3. Different cultures, bringing very different play styles.
    4. Alliances counting for victory. Now you don't have to attack that ally that has been with you from the start in order to gain their regions for a campaign victory.
    5. 27 factions (and counting). A great variety of factions and cultures to play with.
    6. Army traditions. A good way to give your armies a little extra boost along with the experience levelling of its units.
    7. Province system. It is always nice when you complete a province set. (a minor regional campaign victory) with 15-20 building slots to steer your military and economy.
    8. Custom battlemaps. With the entire Rome 2, HatG and CiG campaign maps to use. Plus season effects
    9. Battle maps environmental weather effects and realistic landscapes and settlements. And HDR that makes the lighting change throughout the battle to make each more individual.
    10. The naval game. If you build good naval buildings, techs and ships, you will find the naval side of the game very satisfying. It's great to watch you fleet smash an invader. Port battles are great.
I could add quite a lot more. I played TW games solidly since Medieval 2. Loved them all, and I find Rome 2 (at patch 13) the best all round experience of the titles. The patching of the game has improved it greatly and I will be interested to see where we are at when CA are finally satisfied that the game is where they (and hopefully we) want it to be

    1. Diplomacy. The AI regularly offers you intelligent appealing deals
    2. Sound Design. Thick and gritty
3.Faction Rosters. An interesting variety that has the multiplayer meta at an excitingly flexible level
    4. Confederacies and Cultures. Makes for some tough fights when you go through Barbarian lands
    5. Province System. The importance of the edicts forces you to engage in wars constantly for land
    6. Graphics. On its own it is stunning and that unit render distance is the best yet
    7. Various Victory Conditions.
    8. Imperium. Solves issues the previous games had and adds a strategic layer to your empire
    9. Land Battle AI. Controversial but I've had some intense fights; the AI knows its counters and the importance of flanks
    10. Line of Sight in Battles. Opens up strategic possibilities and the synergy with certain units is intelligent

    1. Graphics are impressive.
    2. Nice to be able to change unit names.
    3. Diplomacy is more transparent.

That's about it for me. Lots of frustrations.

    1. Graphics
    2. Ancillaries

    3. The idea of naval combat and combined naval/infantry operations
    4. The idea of having different families in your faction
    5. The idea of civil war in your faction

There are several other good ideas. If they kept what made the original great and added those in a working state the game could have been gorgeous.
