The Army of Lord Rykker attacks this army.

Justification: I posted my movement orders at 1712, no rolls were asked for until 2018 on Rosby, and this thread was posted at 2015, a total of three hours later. My army passed Rosby en-route to Cracklaw 4.8 hours later (2x normal hex), meaning the Tully force will be outside the walls at the time of my passing for a total of 1.8 hours, not enough to leave the Hex even if they knew I was coming.

As there are no Light Cavalry on screening duty, I'd like to know if a surprise attack can be mounted as they sit at siege.

    Surprise roll:

    15/20 chance of success.

    Rolled a 10.

Lord Rykker's army catch the besiegers completely off-guard, leaving no time to organize a strong defence. (+4 to battles for the attackers)

    ---

    Battle orders please.

Alright, I have been asked to roll this battle now in order for us to get everything else in the Crownlands moving again because of the delay caused by having to wait for orders from both sides.

    Battle of Rosby:

To be fair to both sides since I have not yet gotten orders from Velasco at the time that I rolled this battle, I choose to forgo the normal orders and give each side a simple battle order of archers fire, infantry and polearms hold, and cavalry try to flank. This did not really change much as the Crownlanders already had a nearly 4 to 1 advantage at the start of the battle anyways.

    Initial clash:

    Loyalist easily win all flanks.

    Casualties:

    Loyalist: 6% Casualties
Riverlanders: 50% (25% during the battle, 25% during the rout)

    Remaining Men:

    Loyalist:

    2,350 Heavy Infantry
    12,972 Light Infantry
    1,991 Polearm Infantry
    2,374 Archers
    1,551 Light Cavalry
    515 Heavy Cavalry

    21,753 Men total

    Riverlanders:

    351 H Inf
    1406 L Inf
    466 Polearms
    562 Archers
    122 H Cav
    351 L Cav

    3,258 Men Total

    Post Battle Wounded Rolls:

    Ser Godric Lefford: Free

    Ser Brynden Tully: Free

Remaining Riverlanders retreat to their nearest allied High Lordship keep, which is Harrenhal.

    Mod Note:

I did not want to have to intervene into this battle but in the interest of time and fairness for everyone else I had to. Remember, please try to get your battle orders as quickly as possible and if you cannot, tell a friend/ally or an uninvolved mod so that we can step in and get things done for you in a fair manner.

This being a now-scripted war I was ok to wait, but Velasco: You can't delay for 3 whole days during wars in posting battle orders. Future battles may simply be rolled without you if you're not posting fast enough for no reason (you posted in OOC and posted here asking for my troop numbers for no reason, but posted no orders?), so please respond to battles you're involved in or ask a friend/ally to submit a battle plan for you, else you might just find a 33%/33%/33% split going to fight for you by default.

The Crownlander cavalry were the first wave of the surprise attack, storming into the Riverman siege camps in the twilight of sunset, blaring their horns and drawing their swords as they were almost upon the unsuspecting foe.

Godric was at the very tip of the armoured spearpoint of knights that crashed into the outermost tents, hacking and slashing at men and tent-ropes alike to cause as much chaos as possible. One man, two, three, four... ten. The Riverman, for the most part, weren't even wearing their armour, it was a slaughter, not to mention they looked horribly outnumbered.

Infantry forces smashed into other camps all around Rosby to the same effect: 4 Crownlanders to every 1 Riverman, with the advantage of surprise, made this no true battle at all. Rosby's defenders joined, as well, the gates opening shortly after the slaughter began and a rag-tag band of a few hundred storming the field and assaulting the rows of wicket arrow shields that the Rivermen had been using to shelter near the walls.

In a few hours, all was quiet. Rivermen lay dead everywhere, thousands, with guesses that less than two thousand Crownlanders fell to their desperate defence. Godric picked his way through the chaos, his own horse having died to a lucky polearm thrust by a man that was quickly cut down from behind as soon as he'd found his mark. Godric had continued the fight on foot, his extensive training as a child coming into its own in his many encounters with enemy troops.

He looked for, and put down, the mortally wounded Rivermen: better they die quickly than be left to fade away in agony. Some wounded were taken prisoner, minor knights and sons of lords, with the aim of ransoming them after the rebellion had been put down.

"Lefford?" came a voice, Lord Rykker's, but exhausted sounding. Turning around, it was in fact Rykker, sporting a badly wounded leg but still mounted.

"My Lord, your leg!" said Godric involuntarily, as if Rykker wouldn't have known already...

"Aye, nasty," said the man jovially, "I can ride, I can fight. Your command of the cavalry was outstanding, Lefford. I had feared you would get bogged down on the camp's edges and allow the interiors and other nearby camps to rally, but no! My infantry had almost nothing left to do by the time they crossed the fields into the vicinity!"

Godric had perceived earlier that an attack on only one camp would lose most of the advantage of a surprise assault, so had divided his cavalry into a group for each of the four main siege camps and had them circle the besieged fortress to attack all four almost at once. They had been further instructed to ride clean through the camp before turning and repeating, ensuring they didn't become outnumbered, stationary groups for the enemy infantry to swarm around before friendly foot could enter the fray. The result was a corps of exhausted cavalrymen and horses, who had each charged some half-dozen times each waiting for the infantry, but had also prevented any meaningful rallying inside any of the four camps.

"Thank you, my Lord," said Godric, managing a smile from his weary muscles, "I must rest, all the cavalrymen must. With your leave?"

"Gather your lads and rest, boy!" boomed Rykker with a laugh, "Well earned, I'd say!"

The army settled into their own camp a mile from Rosby, half the army building it while the other half cleared the dead from the fields around Rosby Castle. The work did not take long, with some ten thousand detailed to clean up three thousand bodies, and the army settled into a restful stillness.

The Light Cavalry were dispatched onto Screening the morning after, having been allowed a good night's sleep.

OOC: No protest, sorry for the delay.

A dispatch rider returns to Lord Ryyker's camp. It bears the seal of the Crown Prince.

    My Lord Ryyker,

Your victory brings joy to me. However, it only confirms my suspicions and concerns involving the Crownlands. At Rayonet, a village close to King's Landing, my army fell upon a Riverland host of some 20,000 or more that was raiding the area. Combine with your encounter as Rosby and the existence of a host at Crackclaw Point, I fear that many more hosts have slipped into the Crownlands. I dispatched riders for the coastline and Crackclaw Point as well as towards Antlers and the area of Rayonet and King's Landing. I would suggest you do the same, Lord Ryyker and send scouts in the direction you are going towards Crackclaw.
