By the way, if anyone wishes to support the DeI mod as social media support on twitter (same as what KAM is doing on facebook), please drop me a PM. Only one person is required for now, so only one opening.

Nice update, is a pity we will have to wait until 1.1 to play with them. By the way, ¿How many will be added to the parthian roster?

Well, I can say that no one will be unsatisfied with amount of cataphract-like units of Parthians

Probably un-historical but will there be at least one melee based cataphract(-like) unit? Will Parthia get some slighty beefier Spear and Melee infantry compared to vanilla Rome 2 (though still being inferior to the best of other factions)?

Parthia will get more infantry units, but when you will see their cavalry, you will not think about using much foot soldiers Remember that with AOR units and upcoming mercenary revamp there will be much more infantry choice for all factions

By the way, most of DeI units even now when dismounted get huge bonus for melee and deffence, just check hellenic cataphracts, their stats on foot allow them to fight that way with nice effects

That's cool, I didn't know that. It ties in pretty well with the discussion in this thread, actually. I hadn't considered using cavalry dismounted because of their smaller unit sizes (and the loss of speed and versatility of course), but it sure could help in siege battles.

parthia will have a few infantry units, but most of them are guards or garrison units. Not practical for a fast moving cavalry army. But you will see horses in many different ways from full to quarter cataphracts and normal horses - what a big surprise

About the melee cavalry - im not sure what you mean - all cav units can move to close combat, it does not matter whether unit type.

Sorry, I meant like would we see Cataphrats that are the Melee (Spear/Sword & Shield) type than just the Shock (Lancer with only a sword in melee) type.

not with Parthia (weaker units only carry a spear, noble ones use the kontos and a melee weapon), but the comming Lugii will have a spear cav who can switch to swords in close combat...

The whole melee/shock stuff that CA gave us is stupid. Most of those shock cavalry units in ancient times were strongest cavalry and capable of beating infantry and sword&shield cavalry too. Cataphracts did not use shields for the same reason like renaissance lancers, they simply did not need it (plus kontos required both hands).

By the way, thanks guys for suport, our facebook page is already past 200 likes

Yeah, I think Cataphrats should be given high melee defense stats since that they are in heavy armor (though did Cataphrat armor in antiquity able to regularly stop Spear and Sword hits?)

Even proper leather armour can stop axe hit. Hollywood made all that crap with eveyrthing going through armour with no problem. Real combat was about making small wounds on your enemies that would make him bleed, those flashy stabs with 3/4 of your blade into enemy chest were hard to pull of You need to think about how much space would you have in battle to make a strike. It is already hard to go through armour when you can make proper swing with full momentun and no one trying to kill you at the same time. In battle you would not have such lucky conditions

Cataphract armour is made of few good layers, not only chain/scale, but also leather and padding under it. For example, in one of the battles, legionares were ordered to throw pilum into cataphracts thighs, instead of aiming at rider or horse. That was due to lack of armour on that part of the body. Sadly, I can't remember what battle was it. During battle of Magnesia cataphracts and agema broke Roman left flank with single charge routing even trarii.

Yeah, Hollywood crap with "protection is useless and unarmored heroes can mow down armored mooks" is annoying (though leather armour stopping a axe hit?). There seems to be this werid trope that protection is absolutely useless and you are better off buttnaked than with armor in fiction sometimes.
