    Default Steam Workshop "Mafia"

There is a new trend in the Rome 2 workshop which I did not even notice in the popular Skyrim workshop.
People trade their work for positive ratings and start to flood the (to date reasonable) top tier mods. I rated DeI and also try to share it with who ever I know but still there is only 465 ratings for DeI of more than 18.000 subscribers that surely like and use DeI. Therefore, DeI makes it only to the bottom of the best rated mods (while I think it should be in the top 3 only for the effort and love put into it).
On the other side there is mods like another mod which only got released a few days ago, has only 7.000 subscribers but has already 1.500 ratings due to the strategy of only modding more content when receiving positive ratings. The modders argue that only old mods will stay in the top tier which is not true as we can see with the recent Rome Total War Music mod. Of course mods that are old and are still worked on (so have much more work put into) would have a better rating (if people liked it all the way) which I find very reasonable.

Though I do not like this trend I would suggest especially DeI to do the same since I really cannot understand how no one of all the users that like and play DeI cannot help vote and place DeI where it should belong...

I do not give much about ratings especially if good mods pop up in top tiers anyway (and many already exist) but once the rating system gets screwed its also destroying the idea of the entire system: to find top tier mods with only one click.

Just my thoughts on that new matter. What do you think guys?

I think the steam-workshop mods will be the death of sites like this one and the nexus mods site.

Hardly! Nexus is just growing bigger and bigger. Already lots of very popular mods are Nexus-exclusive meaning it's not allowed to upload it on Workshop or anywhere else.

I disagree for games like Skyrim I use both the workshop and Nexus. The workshop has some rules that some mods suffer so sites like Nexus would circumvent that.

There is your problem. I personally do not care to click like buttons nor do I care about what anyone talks about on the Steam Workshop ^^ I read through the mod's description and if I like it, yay, I'll give it a try. I probably wont bother rating anything though.

Yeah, I've seen that one too, "give me 100 likes and I will add one more unit", lista can go on and on...

Good that I never even check what mods are on "TOP 10" ;P Yet, there are some people that view stuff by looking at those lists.

Ah the Steam workshop i never care of the ratings i just check what it offer me It help me find DeI so im good with it. But the most Mods there are just unit mods 100000000 of ultra awesome (not historical) units. Some are nice nice when i think they are missed at the game but some other no like pikeman in armored legoinary armors . I love game changing stuff like the AoR system the change for agents or more options when counqer and city and and or or historical unit mods like DonDiegos new Auxiliry troops. And this stuff is less there so you need core sites like here where you even can be involved in the process. The DeI team do a good job here and also addept ideas from here with out ask for likes. But it is easyer to use Mods with the Workshop then manual (for lazy people like me). So i think the mix make it just dont care of this attention hungry people the people who deserve DeI will find it the rest wont

I think that if I want a mod, I'm going to avoid Steam like the plague like I already do as much as possible given the current infestation of Steamworks in all these games.
I'll track down forum sites like TWC, or CivFanatics, or CnCden. And I'll continually do that for as long as the sites exist.

Who cares about some rating on steam? Honestly? How many of us go out and seek the mods we want on the appropriate websites, there is no ratings there. Just what the mods are, and the subforums surrounding them. That's how it's always been.

Let a bunch of people rate whatever they want on whatever mods they want on steam. That's their business. We who know what mods we like will continue to use them regardless of what a bunch of crap is being uprated for "super Spartan mod 7million".

We are honored and appreciate the concern of the OP and all patrons here for DeI mod.

But there is also the fact that steam workshop cannot and will never replace modding sites. Why? Coz they cannot provide sub-forums for mod teams to work. Also, no one has the convenience of asking modders any questions there. Here, you open a thread here and are likely to get an answer within minutes during peak hours.

Adding further, the DeI team does not believe in the approach rating as payment for content. The team has, is, and will keep putting time and effort into the mod and would not really bother with what trade goes on in steam.

I agree wholeheartedly with m_1512. We will never offer content for the trade-off of "likes." We offer content because it is the right thing to do for the mod.

Hey m & D, I will like you mod if you like my mod. Deal ?

To be honest, anyway we like using workshop as it's easy to keep track of how many people using the mod, how many tested and don't like (unscubscribing) and you can see whether the newly release preview for example have any effect in terms of people downloading the mod.

I don't know about likes and rating stuff though. Must be something related to Facebook generation though.

And what if someone didn't buy it through Steam?

Doesn't matter where you buy as all legitimate copy of the game must be activated through Steam.

I'm glad others have noticed this, treating the mod workshop like some kick-starter system, I thought it ironic how some mod can have 6900 subscribers and be higher rated than a mod with 63,000 subscribers.
While it won't effect the way I deal with my choice of mods, it can give a false impression to those that are more naive.

The second i see a mod with 'likes for more' I immedialty blacklist it and wont ever download it no matter the content.

m_1512 hit the nail on the head, modders deserve rep for their work but forcing it on the user base for more content is a black thing indeed.
