    Default Confederations?

Hate to have to make a new post for this, but I can't seem to find it answered anywhere in the forums. Perhaps my google-fu is weak, but everywhere I have seen it asked it seems to have just been ignored.

How do I form a Confederation? I have tried with pretty much all the Greek factions. As Sparta and as Athens. Both times I have broken Athens client state status with Macedon and never got the diplomacy option. Also tried to ask other Hellenic factions like Epirus and Syracuse with no luck.

Is this a bug? And if not, what exactly are the criteria for the option to appear so I can possibly figure out what I am doing wrong.

Forming confederations with the AI is always hard but it is doable. Factions that share the "same blood" as you. Usually I find that you need to be stronger than the faction you try to confederate with and it will be easier if the AI is at war with alot of other factions. Macedon- Epirus is perhaps one of the easier confederations to make as the greeks. Because Epirus will be at war with many and you as macedon will be able to expand east and get large enough for Epirus to feel the need to confederate to survive.

    Hope it helps....

Again, getting them to agree to it is not the issue. The issue is that I have never once seen the option available in the diplomacy menu. I have tried as several different Greek factions, opening the diplomacy menu for several other Greek factions only for the form confederation option to never show up.

Sounds odd. Then it might be a bug or a mod conflict.

Perhaps I just don't know where to look. I would hate to be that stupid, but I'm willing to cover all bases here.

Where is the option located? I assume that it is just another option in the diplomacy drop-down box where you would normally find other options such as Trade Agreement, Non-Aggression Pact, and Delcare War, right?

Exactly, if I remember correctly Join Confederation is the very last of that list and only appears to factions that share the same blood with you. But that note, it will disappear along with Defensive Alliance, Make Client State and Military Alliance, if you are already proposing a Non-Aggression Treaty. So, the way it works is that when you have Non-Aggression selected as one of the terms of the negotiation, other options disappear. But they will reappear once the negotiation is over. In other words be sure to deselect (not cancel) Non-Aggression from the terms of the current negotiation, and the options will re-appear.

The way it works in terms of likelihood (from more likely to less likely): Non-Aggression, Defensive Alliance, Military Alliance, Join Confederation, Make Client State. I almost never attempt for Client State unless I am just warring with a nation that is desperate to negotiate for peace. I know they will be upset with me and will most likely soon break their peace treaty so I might as well profit from their economy while it lasts. In most other scenarios a military alliance is a much better option because you can get military assistance.

Have no other mods installed, and it is a fresh install of Rome 2, so I guess it's a bug.

If you cannot see the confederation option, then it is certainly a bug or mod conflict. However, if you can see it and are not able to convince factions to join a confederation, then you are probably not friendly and impressive enough as a nation for them to consider your offer.

Playing as Sparta, I was able to annex Epirus and Rhodos through force. But I made a confederation with Antigonidai, Athenai, Knossos, Pergamon, Trapezos, Arche Bosporus and Syracusae, all within 30 turns. Was basically the quickest expansion I had with Sparta, and by the end of it, I owned all of Macedonia, Hellas, Thracia, Sicily, Bosporus, Caucasia, Africa (province) and Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). I was near Imperium level 6 and had more than 10 provinces in my control. I thought it was one of the easiest starts I have had as Sparta, and restarted the campaign. Now 80 turns in and I am almost reaching the size of my first campaign. I guess it was just luck on part of the first campaign, because I target the smaller factions first, once they joined the confederations, my influence over larger factions also grew and they accepted.

Also remember, certain agreements like client state relationships will make the option not show up.

The easiest way to know if you should have the option is if the "same blood" (grasping hands) icon appears next to other Greek factions in the diplomacy menu.

I have never seen this 'same blood' icon you are talking about.

There is definitely a bug then, at least for me. However, as I said, this was a clean install of Rome 2 and I have no other mods installed.

    Pictures for confirmation.

You need to be military allies(don't think defensive) for X amounts of turns first.

thats strange are you sure you didnt use some other mods because Macedon is called different in DeI. I will ask a stupid question is it the Steam version and if yes did you have all 6 parts and aktivate them all ? or maybe if you install it manual you miss a data folder ? it look more vanilla for me then DeI because the same blood should come that is one change of DeI which cant be missing so easy i guess. So i think a option is the Mod isnt activ in your game.

But i have a other question about Confederations for example the Greek one. You can make it with so many Different Factions which use different Roster will you get all there roster options too if you Confederate with them ?

    Installed manually.

Deleted the whole game and all related folders. Reinstalling now.

I used the manual version, but I will try steam version this time.

Definitely looks like he's playing vanilla unless he knows how to mod factions names in PFM.

    Apologies.

Something was definitely wrong with my install. Upon reinstallation and using steam workshop instead of manual. A LOT of things are different. I now also have the confederation option.

Hey bro! Always use the steam version of installation, all it requires is for you to check subscribe. It is very simple and you can't go wrong with it
I prefer steam library way of installation, it is considerably dumbed down for us. Anyways glad you have solved your issue. Prefer just DeI mod, the 6 files alone no other mods. DeI covers pretty much every aspect of the game. Other mods aren't really required in addition to DeI. Also many mods conflict with DeI. Like if you use a camera mod, chances are the reforms will not work for you. Imagine 50 turns in at Imperium level 3, you realize this. I did, and it was incredibly annoying.

Anyways happy gaming! Cheers! Hey let me know if you are interested in playing Co-op. I see you like Hellenic factions, my avatar tells what I prefer
