Default Peaceful negotiations to be started with large offensive into North Waziristan - Pakistan

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/...0EQ0F720140615

(Reuters) - Pakistan sent troops, artillery and helicopter gunships to the troubled North Waziristan region on Sunday in a long-expected military operation just a week after a deadly insurgent attack on the country's biggest airport.
The Taliban and ethnic Uzbek fighters holed up in North Waziristan - home to some of Pakistan's most feared militants and al Qaeda commanders - have both claimed responsibility for last Sunday's commando-style attack on Karachi airport.
After two attacks by aliens/ disgruntled pakistanis /former employees militants using foreign weapons that claimed more than 30 lives a few days ago, the army has once again started an offensive into a foreign country, will this be the end of a long standing friendship? are these peace talks real? Nobody knows for sure.

Today though, more than 80 innocent people were killed in a vile attack on a peaceful village uzbek militants were killed in airstrikes which formally started the new round of peace talks.

Just drag those fighters out of their caves and hang them. The only way to deal with Salafi rebels is to be totally merciless.
Look at Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq etc. etc.

Will the government of Pakistan finally exert the rule of law in that region? Ignore the call for peace and use the opportunity to get rid of the group's infrastructure once and for all. It's existence's end is long overdue. Let this coincide with the ISAF withdrawal.

"We as a government tried our level best to resolve this crisis through dialogue," the defence ministry said in a statement. "We were frustrated through attacks on innocent Pakistanis and damage to national assets."
It added: "This operation will continue until the surrender or elimination of the enemy."
    I hope so.

Do I hope something tangible finally happens to the region? Yeah, it'd be nice. Will something tangible finally happen? No, probably not.

In a month Waziristan will still be a cesspit and the commanders of this offensive will have a bit more green lining their pockets to "miss" some key targets.

Let's not start the thread with our usual amount of doubt and satire, shall we? Good things can come out of this.

Just curious, how is North Waziristan an invation into a foreign country by Pakistan? I await your logic.

It was a joke for myself, the government has never had any control over the areas so its like going into a foreign country.

@Sukiyama; The single source for anything happening at all is the army itself, and you expect them to say the truth? Of course there will be doubts, Its most likely all and nothing will change other than the armys PR.

@FF; There was no call for peace, bombings never stopped during the "negotiations".

To be fair, there's a great deal of Pakistan where the government has trouble maintaining control, and with values increasingly influenced by fundamentalism, certainly could be mistaken as foreign.

I always got the impression that Pakistani civil authorities and the military were somewhat reluctant to deal a fatal death blow to the radicals in North Waziristan, seeing how a complete and crushing victory would mean no more need for the United States to lob virtual truck-loads of money and financial aid at the Pakistani government. So long as this threat looms overhead in a nuclear-armed country, the US will continue peeing its pants and giving the Pakistani government everything it needs to defend itself and more. You never know, though, the folks there in Islamabad might eventually grow tired of the loonies up north and decide to finally law down the law of Pakistan with a big iron boot.

That's why the government has no problem with the concept of negotiation when it comes to these regions even though most countries wouldn't. Most countries have control over all regions. But when something like this happens, fists start swinging, and can you really blame them?

There is no right option. You either leave them alone ( lol ) , or you blow them to bits. Both option involves them bombing stuff. I don't blame them by the way.

I do that in Total War in order to blood the troops, but the difference is that this insidious influence doesn't respect borders and would corrupt the heartland, plus infiltrating agents to carry out nefarious activities.

Total War: War on Terror would have expendable pawns blowing up buildings and crowds and IEDs ambushing military convoys.
