Default Mauling the loyalists, battle at Darry

    A beautiful, sight, noneless...

The sun bathed the fertile lands of Darry, The water glimmering on the horizon. The proud banners of Darry flowing in the sky with those of the Mad King, three headed dragons. Defiance, unbreakable loyalty to tyrant, a murderer.

Lord Jon's helmet shone under the sun, silvery, with fluting plumes, crowned by a fierce falcon, his wings protruding each side. The plate armor, splendid and magnificent, was like burnished silver, partially gilded. His stallion was barded, light blue, with falcons and crescents. A sword on his side, long and bound in fine leather, an ivory and steel pommel with a falcon's claw. Nex to Lord Jon, stern, and visor up, Ser Vardys, watching the soon-to-be battlefield. He bears the great battle standard of Arryn, and great square, silken, standard with the falcon and the crescent. Flowing its tails in the wind. Around Jon, one hundred and fifty men-at-arms, clad in plate armor and wearing long surcoats with the falcon, their long lances decorated with Arryn banners.
Behind rode the whole Vale army, proud and great, covering the whole plains and hills, with their Lords' heraldry flowing above their heads; bells, red-and-white diamonds, ravens carrying hearts, shells, a single giant head (that of the Titan of Braavos), a broken wheel...

"Sound the trumpets, rise the banners, seek battle or lay siege to Darry"

    "Yes my Lord"

The army started to deploy in good order, either to lay siege to the defiant Darry or luring its forces into the battlefield. Anyway, they would be crushed and smashed, like Graftons were.

Next to Lord Arryn were his bannermen and commanders, including Corbray, Hardyng and even Lady Anya Waynwood, clad in full armor.

There wasn't a way back, the rebellion had begun.

"Send emissaries with an offer of surrender, if refused, we shall fight. A way or another the falcon and the stag will dance above that keep"

Addam Darry appears at the wall, flanked by two of his sons. "Lord Arryn! I welcome you to Darry. You seem to have brought slightly more company than I was expecting, but I'll be happy to entertain them in their time. Let us both be honest. If you attack this castle, you will likely take it, and I will likely die, though I would hope that you would have the decency to spare my sons. However, it will lose you many warriors, and may cost you the war effort if it delays you from reaching the Crownlands in time. You should leave now, before you commit to an assault that will hardly benefit you."

    OOC: Total Darry Forces:
    1435 Heavy Infantry
    2950 Light Infantry
    1800 Polearms
    2000 Archers
    880 Light Cavalry
    400 Heavy Cavalry

    Total: 9565

Lord Jon raises his voice, booming in the helmet. Ser Vardys silent by his side, as the Vale's Lords.

"I will not let such a thorn in our side, Lord Darry. Indeed I would spare your sons lifes, but you may consider what will become of your lordship is you hold the castle and don't surrender. Your lands turned into a wasteland, your men killed, your belongings, the heirloom of Darry spoiled and burned, I thought you'd want to avoid such destiny. The troops of the Riverlands will soon reinforce us, you are doomed my Lord Darry. If you resist you will be stripped of your titles and the legacy of your family will not endure your own death. Surrender and I will spare your troops, belongings, name and seat of the destruction of war. Even more, to avoid your men facing what they chose to defend I will allow your levies to be dismissed. War won't touch Darry if you want, Lord Darry. However, choose defiance and you will ruin everything you have done in your life. I offer you a chance to maintain all these"

He gestures towards the country-field, the castle, everything.

"I may be merciful, but Lord Tully might be less so. Avoid that fate Lord Darry"

"The King is a tyrant who burned alive my kinsman and the very own Lord Stark, and they only demanded that Lady Lyanna should be returned to Winterfell! You are true and loyal, but you follow a wrong path! I offer you the salvation of your men and legacy. And I swear that the King won't be harmed if I arrest, but he will answer justice in a proper trial; something he denied to those he burned, alive! You still would be recognized as an upright men, who chose to save his people, in exchange of his honor as vassal. However if you refuse, even if half my army lays dead before your walls I'll lay waste to you house, the keep will be leveled and your subjects scattered like ashes in the wind. Lord Darry, spare us, you and I, of that fate. Bend the knee, Aerys doesn't deserves that such good men die for him, not this way"

Both of Lord Darry's sons depart from the walls at a word from Lord Addam, and disappear back into the keep. Again, Lord Addam turns to address Lord Jon.

"Mad as he may be, he is my King nonetheless and I cannot justify betraying him fully. I am a proud man, many will tell you, and I fear that it would be too great a stain on my honor if I were to allow you passage through my lands unmolested."

OOC: could an admin do a roll for Dominic, Lyman, and some number of soldiers attempting to escape (first roll could be whether or not their discovered, second could determine which soldiers escape)

"So be it. Now ends House Darry. Your sons will be spared, worry not. However you refused surrender"

Lord Jon turns back with his retinue.

"Ser Vardys, order that the whole province shall be devastated, ransacked and put to the torch. Don't kill anyone until you find resistance"

Vardys nods and rides to deliver the new orders to the army. Soon, detachments of light infantry and cavalry start to plunder and spoil the countryside of Darry.

"Lord Hardyng, Lord Corbray, prepare the siege equipment and make our troops surround Darry, I want a siege, as quick as possible"

"My Lords we will be rejoined at my tent in an hour"

On hearing Jon state "Here ends House Darry" and the valid resistance of a loyalist, he shuffled in his seat uncomfortably and swallowed hard. Nonetheless there was a glow of pride that his lord and master, this old lord, Jon Arryn was still a man of fearsome bearing, clear mind and stern resolve. Ordered to prepare the siege equipment he stiffened his back and summoned his will. "Men of the Vale, lay siege! Lay siege!"

[OOC: Some points to raise, first.

To start, only 75% of Darry's levy can be inside the walls, which is:

    413 H Inf
    1031 L Inf
    550 Polearms
    619 Archers
    413 L Cav
    137 H Cav

    = 3,162 troops

This is in the rules under Campaigning III, Sieges and Garrisons, which states a castle can hold only 75% of their provincial levy. This means the rest of your army is outside the walls, and must either give battle or flee.

    Darry's entire levy (90% of 1x5,500, 1x4,500, 2x1,500) is:

    1,170 H Inf
    2,925 L Inf
    1,560 Polearms
    1,755 Archers
    1,170 L Cav
    390 H Cav

    = 8,969 men

Where you got the extras I don't know. This puts around 5,800 men outside Darry's walls, though Darry is on the Crownlands border. Their best bet is probably to run away in that direction.

    Please resolve this before continuing.]

The extra men come from the 1,200 extra men granted to my personal levy from the grain resource. I had thought that we got the benefit of our own resources? If that is not the case, then I apologize for the confusion. The different numbers of individual troops come from by levy composition that I decided on.

You benefit from your own resource, Axis. If those troops are outside the wall Jon will try to face them in battle.

You do, the mistake is mine. The garrison figure remains (3,162 men max), but your own figures for total troops are correct. Remember only Darry gets the bonuses, not your vassal Houses, if you'd done that.

Lord Addam Corbray rides up to the walls of Darry, with a peace banner in hand.

"Lord Darry! Lord Jon Arryn has reconsidered his words and offers you one last chance to decide your fate. A trial by combat, with a champion of your choice against my lord's chosen. Let the gods in their wisdom decide who will win the forthcoming battle. Do you accept?"

OOC: the troops outside the walls will attempt to flee to the crowlands and join with the men there, under the command of Dominic Darry, along with Lyman Darry.

    IC

"Very well, a duel it shall be. I see no reason that any man should draw their sword in defense of my lands other than myself. I will meet this champion of your lord, and we shall see whether I can still wield a blade. If I am slain, then you will let my young children live, I hope? My eldest sons are already beyond your reach, I fear."

I don't think Axis got his stats right with character creation. He already has far higher stats than he should probably have at this point in the game. We should check this out before any duelling takes place.

I thought I did it right. 3 points per decade, so a 55 year old character should have 15 traits... correct?

Edit: just read the max 12 points thing, I'll go change them really quick - I should really read things
