Default Any plans for DeI Caesar in Gaul improvements?

Are there any intentions by the dev team to make a historically correct/plausible startpos and recruitment system for Caesar? I love DeI now, but I think there need to be major recruitment changes for the Romans in CIG. DeI CIG has some units for recruitment that weren't levied until Augustus, while at the same time not offering the actual units used by Caesar.

A few small changes should go a long way. Here's my suggestions:

    STARTPOS CHANGES

    * Change Caesar's legionnaire units at the beginning from Legio XIX to Legio X Gemina (or Equestris). (Legio XIX wasn't levied until Augustus.)
    * Add one unit of Cohors Sagittariorum Cretensium Veterana to Caesar's starting army

    RECRUITMENT AOR

    * Change Veteran legionnaires to Manipular Barracks III---should be a late game recruitment. Perhaps AOR them to Liguria and Narbonesis.
    * Make Caesar's historical legions -- Legio X, Legio IX Hispana, VII Claudia, VIII Augusta ---recruitable from Level II Manipular Barracks in Liguria and Insubria (or entriemap).
    * Remove Legio XIX from all barracks and regions!
    * Make Legio XIV Gemina recruitable in Liguria and Insubria (closest provinces to TransalpineGaul where it was levied in 57 BC)
    * Make Legio V Alaude recruitable from Level II Manipular barracks in Helvetia, Lugdunesis,Pictavis, and Gergovia
    * Make Legio XIII Gemina recruitable from Level II Manipular barracks in Helvetia, Lugdunesis, and Gergovia (levied before Caesar's war against the Nervii...although I am notsure precisely where, central Gaul seems plausible.)
    * Add Cohors Sagittariorum Cretensium Veterana to Level III Manipular Barracks in Liguria and Insubria

If there's no intentions of doing anything with CIG soon, plese let me know. I haven't modded anything since Empire, but I may try my stab at it and make it a submod.

    Thanks!

I was thinking of adding a few new aux units to the CiG campaign but have been unable to find a decent map of the recruitment areas (celtic, gallic, Roman, Greek, Britain). I would like the campaign to include ceasar's historical legions as you say and the auxiliaries he would have used at the time. Also maybe any new aux units from my overhaul should have a different varientmesh to make them look like earlier style recruits?

This would be a great new project to start on next. If you have any research of that time or ideas, let me know...

    This website looks useful: http://www.livius.org/caa-can/caesar/legions.html
really I need more info about the auxiliaries he used (60,000 of them!)

Nice find. I hadn't seen that table. I'll update my list of units.

I'll poke around too on the auxilia subject. The Cohors Sagittariorum Cretensium Veterana were probably a later unit also. Perhaps using a "earlier" variant of the Cretian archers would be better.

Perhaps this thread should be moved to the submods section.

It would be great to have a somewhat historical depiction of the Romans in CIG! Although I do like the Grand Campaign in DeI, the campaign start-up, pace of developments and general AI behavior (sans agent spam) in CIG feels more realistic.

Based on the info at Livius.org, perhaps add the following additional changes:

    * Legio XII Fulminata recruitable with Level 2 Manipular Barracks in Liguria and Insubria (levied by Caesar in 58/57 for war with Helvetti)

    * Legio VI Ferrata recruitable with Level 3 Manipular Barracks in Liguria and Insubria (Level 3 since it was levied later for war against Vercingetorix)

    * Make Legio V Alaude recruitable from Level 3 Manipular barracks in Liguria and Insubria (Level 3 since it was also levied later for war against Vercingetorix)

That only leaves the first incarnation of Legio XV which was sent by Rome to aid Caesar. DeI doesn't have this unit, but I think with the other modifications this would be a lessar concern.

We have custom legions in CiG but they may be improperly named. Changing the name should be fairly easy, although the textures could be another issue.

The other ideas are good ideas also, we simply don't concentrate much on the mini-campaigns.

    Dresden,

Any chance you guys would like to roll with this idea? As a newbie to RTW 2 modding, I spent enough time today watching and reading tutorials that I am thoroughly intimidated. Would it be difficult to make the changes suggested in the thread?

I'm also for those additions and changes. CIG is mini campaign with a lot of potential, but in vanilla it's too boring.

I also think you should not forget about the 2 mini campaigns - I play both and I think they are more tactical then the main campaign Thanks!

God, I'm hoping the development team locks onto this one. CiG has the most realistic feel to how the campaign develops and feels far more strategically challenging in its gameplay.

I just abandoned another grand campaign after the campaign map was overrun by Macedon (who conquered everything from Brittania to the Levant)! God, I can't stand another minute of grand campaign!!! Its such an immersion killer!

Please, please, pretty please...we need a good DeI treatment for CiG!!! All we need is a proper AOR system and some better balancing (better Germanic tribes, for example).

Tell me where to donate and I'll be happy to put money in the jar!

Glad to see another with a similar view!

I can't wait for DeI 1.0, so Dresden and the team can begin looking at the mini-campaigns. I can't even play grand campaign anymore...It hits turn 100 or so and I just get too disgusted/pissed by the ahistorical map development (AI steamrolling) and the game overall starts feeling too easy. For now, I'm on the sidelines and just checking in once in a while to see if there has been a movement toward the mini-campaigns.

I can't promise this for 0.95. However, we will look at the mini campaigns in a serious manner after our full 1.0 release.
