You can run the game using BI by just making a short cut for the mod using the BI.exe
Same with ALX, but you will need the chat_filter.san file to do so.
That sounds good. But what is the chat_filter.san?

.../.../alexander/data/chat_filter.san
... you must copy the file... then, add to your modfolder... then, create a shortcut using the ALX.exe
example for the line in the shortcut:
"C:\...\Rome - Total War\rometw-alx.exe" -mod:RTH -nm -show_err -noalexander
... of course, the player must to have ALX installed...
greetings.
Hey, this is easy as hell!
And it works!
Thousand thanks!
I just tried it out and it is even possible to continue campaigns started with RTW!
There's a new loading screen, too. In my case it's Vercingetorix and Caesar. Very nice! (Since I added some new ones to my folder this might be different for RTH 1.6 downloaders)
And now I do have all the advantages of the Alexander machine?
How is the procedure for BI? Is there a line to add like -nobi ?

I just tried it out and it seems to work for BI too, without any additional line. The only difference is that you need to start your Imperial Campaign in the Provincial Campaign folder.
I love it!

Yes.
Some advantages from ALX engine (at least that I remember):
-500 slots in DMB (instead the 255 of Rome or BI)
-Unique Characters, with unique 3D models (in DMB, count as 1 unit model more) and unique portraits (you must add the Immortal trait and custom_portraits folder inside ui folder, for this)
-Naval Invasions (work in descr_sm_factions.txt... if I dont bad remember)
-Better AI (although BI on hard option campaign is very good too)... the generals in battle to cares more to himself, not are so suicide... the AI tend more to join his armies (not are so many banners with 1 or 2 units)
-... religions (descr_beliefs.txt from BI) work fine for ALX too (or any MOD based on ALX)
... and dont remember more, for now.
-nobi ?... no no...
Is more difficult a little.
The problem with BI, are his special formations (schiltrom and shield_wall)... you can find them in the UI folder (in TGA format, are interfaces)... you must fixed that... They need a better knowledge of the BI engine, and more careful procedures.
I prefer ALX for all my MODs (that I download included)... is more easy and the results are better...
-Here you have some instructions for play Rome (the basic Rome), using the BI engine... but remember, this instructions not are for mod-folders... you must learn more about this, in the workshop section:
(***) ... this files are important too:1 - Create a shortcut to the exe Rtw Bi, enter properties and on arrival at the end add this: -mod
2 - On the "Data" folder create a new txt file named descr_beliefs and let it blank (... if you dont apply "religions" to your MOD).
3 - Try the shortcut
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And does this little buttons to display the special action:
Follow these steps:
1 - go to the folder ... Rome - Total War\bi\data\ui\barbarian\interface, there you will find several files but the important thing is called "battlepage_03.tga"
2 - Copy file "battlepage_03.tga" to the following folders:
... Rome - Total War \ Data \ ui \ barbarian \ interface
... Rome - Total War \ Data \ ui \ eastern \ interface
... Rome - Total War \ Data \ ui \ carthaginian \ interface
... Rome - Total War \ Data \ ui \ Egyptian \ interface
... Rome - Total War \ Data \ ui \ GREEK \ interface
... Rome - Total War \ Data \ ui \ roman \ interface
If those folders do not exist create them
(***)
... anyway, and as I say before, BI is more dificult and must learn more before to transport to any modfolder previously based on Rome.
If I had to make a mod based on BI ... start modifying the same folder: bi, and then rename it, then go editing all entries that link to models and textures... do not know otherwise... I prefer ALX.
greetings.
It's really a great mod Philadelphos!
What keeps me from playing it more though are the vanilla units. I can't stand the look of these 10 year old textures......
Such a shame, because the mod itself is fantastic. Any plans to use new unit textures?
Thanks, you gave me quite some stuff to study for both ALX and BI. Following your advice I will concentrate on full implementation of ALX features. That will be the main feature of version 1.7 which might come out quite soon and won't have many other news.
BI appears more complicated and so I'll leave that for later.
I started this game from my work on the map and when that was done I tried to fill it with life. Since I did most of it by myself, I took what I could get from vanilla and other sources until I reached the limit of 255 slots in DMB. I think the results are not so bad, but I'm aware that there are lots of better textures out there. Now with ALX we could easily add more and better ones, but I am quite exhausted. I haven't worked on the units for at least four months. I would really like to outsource that job and any person who wants to convert the unit textures to a better standard would be more than welcome. It could become a bit complicated, though, because the AOR system is all over the place and you'd need to take that into account. But it's not impossible and to see how it works one could start with one of the simpler rosters, for example the Romans. (The really complicated ones are those of the "multi-factions"romans_senate, romans_scipii, gauls, britons, and partially romans_brutii, greek_cities, egypt and merc).

WOOOW !! +Rep
u really did a great job guys
Very few mods of RTW have Argos on their map, but Rome Total History does. The following screens give a few hints why the capital of Argolis was so important.
The city of Argos had mighty walls, two citadels and two ports. In Hellenistic times it was governed for several decades by tyrants. The most important were Aristomachos and his son Aristippos. The tyranny in Argos ended when Aratos of Sicyon convinced Aristomachos the Younger to join the Achaean League.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Argos was also the site of the Nemean Games. The town of Nemea had been stripped of this event a century earlier by the Argives. During the war with Argos Aratos of Sicyon restored the stadium at Nemea and organized the games to be celebrated in their original site. This was done to damage the Argive tyrants and it may have contributed to the dismissal of their despotic regime.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The most celebrated site in Argolis is the Asklepieion at Epidaurus, probably the most famous clinic of antiquity and still visited today by millions of tourists.
