    Default Upgrade time...

Well, it's time to upgrade again. I would like to upgrade to an AM2 mobo, but I have a few questions about them.

    1. If it says it supports DDR800, does that mean every 240pin less than DDR800 as well? (533, 667 etc)
    2. Are these good picks CPU , Mobo

    [edit]
Sorry about the retarded question, answered it myself. (and all it took was a little google). Still, would I see my computers performance drop if I bought anything less than DDR800? I've heard that andthing more than 533 is unreasonable...

1-yes. I generally ignore those messages, since you can pretty much put any speed DDR2 into DDR2 mobos and it will work.

2-A X2 4600+ isn't worth it. Go for an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Check this thread out for some options.

Depends on your CPU's FSB/hyperlink speed.

There is no need to have RAM that is faster than your CPU can handle.
But I do beleive the CPU you picked can handle DDR2-800 speeds.

But even if it doesn't you might want to upgrade to a faster CPU in the future.
Depending on the price premium for 800 vs 533 it might pay off to prepare for the future now, rather than binning your old RAM in two years time.

edit: I recommend Core 2 Duo too.
You should at least consider it.
Core 2 Duo E6400 beats AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ in almost every benchmark.
    AND IT'S CHEAPER!

Not to mention it's a great overclocker: Toms got it to perform like an E6700!!

If you have the money you should also consider the E6600.

Almost every benchmark? I couldn't believe my eyes, I had to look it up for myself. I can't believe I am saying this, but I am going to buy an..... Intel...

Yeah, its hard to swallow, but its true, Intel now beats AMD hands down. Only the Core 2's though, the pentiums are still crap.
Under the patronage of Rhah and brother of eventhorizen.

Well, the pentiums are still the cheapest dual cores around, that gotta count for something.
