Default Nightsong - Seat of House Caron

    House Caron of Nightsong

    The Family Tree
[JON CARON, the Wildfire, Lord of Nightsong, High Lord of the Marches (died 285AL (48))]
    Bio:
Peace has never sat well with the Wildfire, who earned his epithet during a Tourney his father had staged for the Marcher lords. The young man won the melee with his energy and ferocity. During the "wild" years, young Jon attempted to escalate hostilities with the Dornish, but his father managed to see to it that little blood was shed.
After his father's death, Jon was finally reigned in by his wife. He was initially glad for the war which engulfed the realm, dreams of glory and riches and revenge on the Dornish swimming in his head. However, after being posted under the command of Renly - a boy - he became unruly, questioning his commander's decisions. Once he heard of the siege of Nightsong, Jon incited mutiny in Renly's host, taking half of the soldiers south to save his home. He was too late to lift the siege, but he was able to enact revenge, butchering the garrisoning Dornishmen.
With the war over, Jon went to pledge himself to Stannis Baratheon, the new lord of Storms End. He was accepted back until the intervention of a butthurt Renly saw the lord declared a traitor for his actions. This caused the disillusioned Jon to commit suicide, instead of being executed.
    - His First Wife, YARA DONDARRION (42)
    Their Children:
    - MATTHOS CARON, the Firestorm, Lord of Nightsong, High Lord of the Marches (25)
    Bio:
A hot-tempered young man, Matthos grew up with his father's tales of war, and of the atrocities the Dornish had committed during their fighting. With the stories ringing in his head, Matthos squired for Lord Dondarrion, from whom he learned everything the man knew of leading armies in to battle.
He married Daisy Buckler, a beautiful woman from the north of the Stormlands, who promises to provide the heir with a son as strong as his father, and as attractive as his mother.
He was an able and loyal supporter of his father during the rebellion, following him south to save Nightsong. He was present at his father's suicide, and is now the Lord of Nightsong.
-- His Wife, DAISY BUCKLER (28)
    Their Children

    - STANNIS CARON (4)
    Bio:
Named after the man who would be directly responsible for his grand-father's death, the boy Stannis is a hostage at Storm's End, to ensure his father does not rebel.

    - TANTA CARON (22)
    Bio:
Jon's special girl, Tanta was a proper lady at the age of six, and as failed to disappoint her father. She was exstactic at the news of her match with the young Ralph Buckler.
    -- Her Husband, RALPH BUCKLER

    - ABEGAIL CARON (19)

    - ROBERT CARON (13)

    - LYANNA CARON (4)

    - His Second Wife, MERIANNE DONDARRION (52)
    Bio:
"The Lightning Lady" had survived seven husbands before the death of her father. With the risk of being overlooked in favour of her eldest who had not claimed the name of Dondarrion, Merianne quickly married Lord Jon, barely three weeks after the death of his first wife. Theirs is a political marriage, but the new couple seem to have a good relationship.
    His Siblings:

    - CASPER CARON, (43)
    -- His Wife, MARGAERY
    Their Children:

    - MINA CARON (16)
    - LUTHOR CARON (12)
    - GARSE CARON (7)
    - MEGGA CARON (5)

    - JOY CARON (30)
    -- Her Husband, STANNIS ESTERMONT

    House Mains

    Matthos Caron:
+2 Joust, Unlike his father, Matthos took to riding like a fire to wood. He may not be in the same league as the Sword of the Morning or Barristan the Bold or even Jaime Lannister, but Matthos still does well in the tourneys across Westeros.
+2 Battle, Tourneys and bandit hunting are good ways of training for battle, as are reading all the history books. Matthos has done all of these things. He has been bloodied fighting at Tumbleton against the Reachmen and at Nightsong against the Dornish, during Robert's Rebellion.
+2 Logician, He is the Lord Caron of Nightsong. He will not disappoint his father by being unable to manage a household or army logistics.
    Arms and Armour:

    Casper Caron:
+3 Duel, Everyday, for over an hour, against upwards of two or three men, Casper trains with sword and axe and mace and spear. He will be ready for the day he is thrust in to a hopeless battle.
+3 Battle, He has lived long, and fought in some obscure settings across Westeros and Essos. He is as ready a battle commander as any.
+3 Charisma, Everyone wants to be his friend; no-one wants to be his enemy. He has a warm voice, a friendly face, and a tact for knowing exactly what to say. Some would consider that extremely dangerous.
+2 Survival, Training to fight and training to survive come hand-in-hand. Having a good physique is also important for dealing with illness.
+1 Pathfinder, He served his father as member of his personal guard. He was responsible for dealing with poachers who stole what was not theirs. He has learned a few tricks from them.

    The Vassals

William Horpe, Lord of Drakegrave (54)
    Bio:
He is a humble man, more than happy to allow the politics of the greater houses wash over him. After catching a disease from the east, William became barren, thus unable to continue his line. This has birthed a great anger in the man, who has become very eager for war.
    - His Wife, Lady Tanya of the Marches (32)
-- His Brother, Bowen Horpe (47)
    Bio:
A dark shadow of his brother, Bowen has been unwilling to marry in respect his brother who cannot even if he wanted to.
    --- Bowen's Children:
    ---- Ormund Horpe (24)
    ---- Owen Horpe (19)

Elbert Peasebury, Lord of Poddingfield (16)
    Bio:
The child has been fostered at Nightsong since his father's disappearance seven years before. He has been treated as a son to Matthos Caron, who shed a tear when he was sent home, to rule over his lands.
    - His uncle, Garse Peasebury (38)
    Bio:
Believed to be the reason for his lord brother's disappearance, Garse has acted as Lord of Ploddingfield for seven years, and is now the head advisor to his nephew.
    - His Cousin, Imry Peasebury (20)
    Bio:
Born to Garse's elder brother, who died in a tourney accident, Imry is the strongest claimant to Poddingfield by blood. However, there are whispers that Garse, with the loyalty of most of the household, will attempt to claim the title of "lord".

Merianne Dondarrion, Lady of Blackhaven (51)
    - Her Children (numerous fathers):
    -- Marq Estermont (31)
    Bio:
He has refused to take his mother's name, an action which has caused his claim to be bypassed in favour of his "baby" brother. Supposedly Marq is happy with this decision, and happily acts as his mother's most trusted advisor and lieutenant.
    -- Hanna Buckler (29)
    -- Sky Peasebury (22)
    -- Lark Connington (13)
    -- Beric Dondarrion (11)

A merchant travelling from the North arrives in Nightsong, eager to secure a trade deal between the North, providing furs, and the Stormlands, providing quality armours.

"My Lord Caron Stark requests an exchange," he says, "Fine armour is required in the far north, and our great forests provide a multitude of fine furs for export."

Jon, upon hearing of the merchant's arrival raced from within the newly refurbished main keep of Nightsong. At his heels was his son Matthos, frowning until he spotted the Direwolf above the small company.

"Welcome, welcome!" Jon called out, relieved that it was no armoured company. He had been busying himself with the household affairs, after the war, and was still waiting to see if the Baratheons came for some sort of vengeance. "Trade with fellow brothers! Of course of course! Come Matthos, bring up the good steel from the armory, our Men-At-Arms can go without plate for a few weeks." Turning back to the merchant, he bowed shallowly. "Take it back as a gift, in knowledge that the bonds formed in war cannot be easily broken."

[OOC] My thanks for keeping this trade lane open

    OOC: No problem!

The Northman held a breastplate high, examining it in the light, a smile slowly spreading across his face.

"The only steel finer than this north of the Neck is the steel to be found in Lord Stark's Valyrian Greatsword, my Lord," he said, lowering the armour and holding out a handshake, "For this you shall receive fine furs from the newest trapping forests in the North. Truly our Stormland allies are brothers."

The merchant gave the Carons a thick, heavy pelt of fur to examine as well: soft and thick, it was high quality and value, suitable for fine cloaks, rugs, and bedding.

"A gift, as well," he said as he handed the heavy pelt over for inspection, "Further exports will follow when I have returned home and made the necessary arrangements."

Shaking the merchant's hand, Jon smiled as he received the fur.

"Never again will we have to fear the coming of winter," the lord muttered in thanks. "Well, I must allow you to return to your home, friend."

And with that, Jon bowed, turning on his heel. Matthos followed shortly after, also bowing to the northmen.

A lone rider approached Nightsong from the east, he bore no banners and his armor was plain although expensive enough to show he was highborn. With his black courser huffing from the tiring ride he challenged the guards "I am Ser Stannis Estermont! I have come to claim my wife."
"We all know whatmy brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."

OOC: It was Joy wasn't it? Or was it Abegail? You decide, I will stick them both out for ya (Abe is 18, Joy 29)

    IC:

The main gate of Nightsong, gleaming new, opened to admit the knight. The sworn swords who had not gone off with the delegation to Storm's End assembled before the knight of Greenstone.

"Ser Estermont!" Merianne Dondarrion called happily, leading the procession of Caron women towards him. "This has been a long time in coming!"

OOC: It was Joy who might be a wee bit too old for conventional medieval marriage but I rped it as a slight his brother made towards him.

    IC:

The Knight removed his helmet and dismounted his horse in one fluid movement, showing surprising gracefulness for a man his size. The Knight had a strong square jaw with a growing beard, wild black hair, deep green eyes like gemstones and was built like a bull. Stannis did not smile but still made a curt formal greeting, he observed that only women came to greet him and wondered where the Lord was. "My lady, the war delayed my coming. Three hard years spent fighting and House Estermont was the last to disband their men, we took Dragonstone and later sailed to Stonehelm to find it already taken after all other fighting had died out."

OOC: Cool cool, always good to have family feuds Would you like a dowry? I have up to 30k which can be provided. A wedding rp wouldn't be that exciting... unless Stannis popped along to give his blessings

"We know of the courage and bravery of House Estermont, do not worry," Merianne smiled, albeit with sadness in her eyes, remembering. "We had gone to Storm's End thinking it safe, yet that is where the Dornishmen struck with much of their might. If your host had not come when it did, then I doubt we would be here today."

"Yes," Joy Caron agreed enthusiastically, stepping beside her mother-in-law. "Once we heard the battle raging, we went to watch. It was a relief that cannot be put in to words when I saw that we had been saved. And we have you to thank for that."

"But retelling of the war is not why you are here," Merianne dragged the three of them back to the reason for them being together. "Joy is ready to be presented before your household, to become a member of your noble family. I will allow you to take her to your home now, if you so wish."

The bride paled slightly at that, looking at the Lady of Blackhaven with something a bit like betrayal.

OOC: Only if you want to pay one, I don't require it.

    Stannis Estermont, Nightsong

"No not indeed." Stannis was a curt and unfriendly man, his brother often joked he pitied the woman who would marry him "My lady if you wish we could married in a fortnight back in Greenstone, your family is invited to attend." The youth wanted to get his marriage done with before his wife got any older.
"We all know whatmy brother would do. OOC: have 10k, would be unseemingly otherwise.

"She is your woman now, Stannis, marry her as fast as you like," Merianne smiled, giving the woman in question a little push. "You will have your gold as soon as we can gather it. We are still finding coins strewn across the land."

"Very well." Stannis extended his hands to his bethroed "My lady." Deciding to remain there for the night he announced his plans "I hope you can find food and bedding for me today, tommorow ready a horse for Joy and have someone dress my own. We depart at first light."

"Of course, my good son, we will not be able to live up to any high expectations, but a large, firm bed awaits," she said with a wink, causing Joy to blush.

One could say Stannis had a sense of humor, he'd be dead wrong, with a curt nod he replied "Thank you, you are most kind." The knight would do his duty in the bedchamber well enough, he needed to get an heir while his brother was still unmarried not to say there was any rush to that of course "My Lady, when will dinner be served? I have ridden long and hard and am weary and hungry."

The food provided was well-prepared, but sparse. There was only enough to properly feed the betrothed. The rest of the family made do with bread and cheese: they were in mourning.

Estermont and his bride were seen off only by the household guards, the family still in the height of their misery. As if to spit on their loss, the sun was shining.
