    House Mooton
    House History
    House History
Maidenpool was ruled by house Mooton even before the War of Conquest. They likely descent from the Andal invaders. Some members of House Mooton have claimed that they descent from Florian the Fool and Jonquil the Maid, the legendary couple that met at the pool of Maidenpool. But this is often seen as a way to spice up their family tree. Either way, House Mooton is an old and respectable house by all accounts. They ruled from their ancient seat of Maidenpool independently from the Iron-Born, but failed in conquering the First Men of Crackclaw point. In the War of Conquest they were defeated by Aegon Targaryen and his half-brother Orys Baratheon. After that they became a part of the Bay of Crabs within the region of the Riverlands. The rule of the Bay of Crabs was given to their ancient neighbours, house Darry whom had ruled alongside house Mooton for centuries. Ever since its creation, house Mooton have complained about this arrangement, feeling that they should rule the Bay of Crabs themselves. They have a fierce rivalry with house Darry because of this and they have shown to be unwilling vassals in the past.
House Mooton is the richest house of the Riverlands, after their Lord Paramount of house Tully. Also they can wield as much levy men as their lords of Darry. Despite being minor lords and having no vassals of their own, they are one of the most influential of the Riverlords and have considerable political power.
Their blazon is a red salmon on white, over a white field with a golden tressure. Their motto is ‘Wisdom and Strength’.

    Maidenpool
    Maidenpool

The town takes its name from the pool where the legendary Florian first spied Jonquil bathing with her sisters, in a pool which later became the Town of Maidenpool.
Maidenpool is located at the estuary of the Trident near the border of the Crownlands. It is located to the north of King's Landing and north-east of Harrenhal. The castle at Maidenpool sits on a hill, and the town is walled with pink stone. East of Maidenpool are hills. Maidenpool's main gate is called the Fool's Gate. The town also has a defence tower, called Jonquil’s Tower.
There are two roads leading to King's Landing from Maidenpool, one a faster road which goes through Duskendale and the other which travels along the coast.
Maidenpool is a port town with a busy harbour, on the Bay of Crabs. It has many inns and is a prosperous place. Their lands are fertile and populous. Fisherfolk northwest of Maidenpool fish the waters in leather coracles and collect clams.

    Characters and Household
    House Mooton
In recent times, House Mooton has been a rich and influential house. They hold honourable positions and are close to both the royal family and their liege lords. Despite having no vassals of their own, they are more powerful than some of the high lords in the kingdom.

    Lord Rayman Mooton
A calm and just man. Lord Rayman, might not be the best swordfighter of the kingdom, he is more of an diplomat himself. He keeps a good job managing the affairs of Maidenpool and keeping its administration straight. He is interested in economy and often has meetings with various merchants. He is an ambitious man, although he doesn’t always shows it. He is rather cunning. He believes in law and duty. In his youth he squired for Lord Darry. As a young squire, lord Darry wanted him to marry his daughter, in order to keep their troublesome Mooton vassals under control. Having no appetite for marrying into house Darry, Rayman rushed into his marriage to lady Minisa of the powerful house of Whent. Lord Darry was outraged and send Rayman away. Rayman, did however, make friends with Darry’s son Symon. His choice in a bride cannot been seen as a surprise, as he always proved to be an ambitious man. He wants above all, gain more power and wealth.

    Ser Willem Mooton
Ser Willem Mooton is the heir of Maidenpool, but can be considered a disappointment for house Mooton. With his pale, thin body and a plain face and is not considered a very handsome man. He is knighted, but he is not the kind of man people will follow in battle. Some say he is a coward. He has a timid character and is better suited a steward then a lord. He is jealous of his younger brother, Myles, although he will never admit to that. He is wed to Melara Mallister, they are ill-matched. He has a young son with her. He is faithful to her, but as many say, only because the whores won’t take him.

    Ser Myles Mooton
Myles Mooton is everything what his elder brother is not. He is handsome, charming, strong and brave. He is a great knight and squired for Rhaeger Targaryen himself. Now he is one of the prince’s closest friends. Myles is still a single and a much sought-after bachelor in the kingdom. Because of his family, his friendship with the prince and his knightly skills, his future looks bright.

    Lady Deiyna Mooton
Lady Deiyna is probably the most like her father of his children. She has a strong sense of duty and justice. She is also quite piety, a result of being raised by a Septa. She has a practical, down-to-earth nature and shows good sense in running a household. Currently she serves in the Red Keep as a Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Rhaella Targaryen. She has no great beauty and is considered rather plain. Despite her youth, she also has been mentioned to become the governess of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen.

Got lost in the sack of Kings landing.

    Other members of their house
    - Lady Minisia, of House Whent, wife of lord Rayman Mooton. Born 249 AL.
    - Lady Melara, of house Mallister, wife of Willem Mooton. Born 255 AL.
    - Symon Mooton, first son of Willem Mooton. Born 281 AL.
    - Jon Mooton, second son of Willem Mooton. Born 284 AL.
    - Harvey Mooton, third son of Willem Mooton. Born 286 AL. *gifted child*

    Their household:
    - Maester Gulian: Lord Raymans young Dornish Maester. He is from a knightly family in the region of Salt Shore. He is often home sick.
    - Manly Dargood; claims to be distant kin to the Darklyns of Duskendale. His parents were rich merchants of Duskendale. He is the steward of Maidenpool castle.
    - Ser Osney Blount; Osney is a championed knight from a poor background. He is a tourney winner and was rewarded with the position of master-at-arms at Maidenpool. He is a third cousin to the Blounts of Dayton Keep.
    - Septon Seymond: a hunchbacked septon; before entering the Maidenpool court he lived in a Septry and was devoted to the Smith. He praises peace and kindness above all.
    - Septa Ryella: A stunningly woman; although a septa, she makes high-born ladies blush with envy. Rumour has it, she isn’t too strict on her chastity vows. It is believed that her father was a drunk knight, who had sold his daughter to a Septry because he could not provide for her anymore.

Ravens had flocked to Maidenpool. And those dark wings did indeed bring dark words. The peaceful and genteel inhabitants of Maidenpool Castle where horrified by such news. Rebellion. It had been ages since a rebellion of this size! Who was mad enough to face the dragon? let alone, a mad dragon. Oh yes, they had heard the news about their beloved king. He as mad as could be. Two members of their house inhabited the Royal Court at Kings Landing. One as the friend of the crown prince and the other as a lady-in-waiting towards the Queen. And if the negotiations went well, she could also rise to become the governess the little princess. Lord Rayman was particularly proud of that. He believed that much could be won through the arts of diplomacy and service. Not to mention the honours it goes with it. But not everything could be solved by words. Sometimes it needed brutal action of swords. And this was a time like this.

Baratheon, Stark and Arryn had risen into rebellion and lord Tully's mind was poisoned by his marriages to Arryn and Stark and decided to go against their dragon king. A action lord Rayman wasn't convinced off.
The group of people was sitting in the great hall of Maidenpool castle. It consisted of three woman and four men. On the wooden, carved throne of Maidenpool was sitting Lord Rayman, together with his wife Lady Minisia. Also present was his sullen heir, Willem and his wife Melara. Their Dornish Maester and counciller maester Gulian sat next to Osney Blount. The knight who had in his youth had been nothing less then a hero of the jousting lists. Now master-at-arms at Maidenpool. The Faith was represented by Septon Seymond, who sat uneasy in his chair because of his hunched back and the very comely septa Ryella. Manly Dargood, the steward of Maidenpool was absent without reason, which had left Rayman with a bad temper.

"Dorne will be at the Kings side, as Elia is of house Martell." Maester Gulian said.
"Yes.. but we are not in Dorne. We are in the Riverlands." Rayman sighted.
"I think we should follow Tully into battle." Willem said. "They will be cross if we defy them."
"And risk the wrath of the mad king?" Osney Blount responded, he had been a courtier at court for some time before going to Maidenpool. "That is the greatest madness."
"Baratheon, Stark, Arryn and Tully are sided against that mad king too!" Willem said.
"Martell, Tully and prince Rhaegar with the royal army are still with the mad king." Gulian stated.
"What about house Lannister?" Septa Ryella wanted to know. "What will they do?"
"They are smart enough to keep themselves out of business.. as of yet. It seems." Rayman grunted. "But we aren't as lucky as the Westerlands. One force or another will be at our gates soon. And they won't stop there."
All eyed a bit uneasy, then lady Whent began to speak; "What about our children in Kings Landing? We can't abandon them?"
"They will be safe! They are of noble blood!" Willem protested. "We must follow Tully."
Rayman could not take this anymore and slapped Willem in the face. "Safe! He burned Starks, Mallisters and Arryns to death! You think they bother to roast some Salmon after that! Have you lost your wits?"
But he seemed to made up his mind. "But we can't abandon them to their lot. We most aid the Targaryens in this struggle. Besides, going against them is treason. And we Mootons are no traitors. Myles must ask Rhaegar Targaryen to send us some protection so we can stand the Riverlands and the Vale. They will be here sooner then we hope. We are on our own now."
It was silent for a while. Then Septon Seymond began talking for the first time."We must pray to the Gods for mercy."

After the duel of Maidenpool in which Lord Rayman had lost, the members of the Mooton family were transported to the Eyrie, to stay there as guests and hostages of lord Arryn of the Vale. Now the loyalist war was lost. Two of their children found their death in the Capital and the Usurper was crowned king.
By the grace of lord Arryn, house Mooton was given back their seat and wealth.

Now the Mootons where back in power and back in the game. Former loyalists. Who had defied the Tully's in the recent wars and supported the Targaryens till the end. What would be their fate? Rayman sat down upon his throne. Planning his next move. How could he get back in royal favour?

A ship arriving from the far north bears an envoy of Trade. He bears with him a letter signed by Lord Caron Stark of the Northmarch. It reads:

    "House Mooton,

We understand that you are seeking exports of Furs from the North, something that the Northmarch currently produces without export destination. Purchases of Grain would be sought in exchange for the Furs.

    Lord Caron Stark
    Lord of the Northmarch"

The envoy then speaks, "My Lord Stark has obliged me to hammer out the details, and bids you survey this gift first..."

The man produces a large wolfskin for the Mooton to see: its fur is soft and thick to the touch, and the pelt itself is rather weighty.

"Many wolves, bears and other furred creatures exist of such quality in the North, Lord Mooton." said the man.

Lord Rayman was utterly pleased with the news of an envoy coming to his fair castle, representing house Stark. One of the most ancient houses among the realm and of course, lord Paramount of all the North. It was a great and deep honour.
The envoy was received in Jonquil's Hall of Maidenpool Castle. There sat lord Rayman Mooton, as if the war had never happened. All his courtiers were standing beside him. Together with his pale and soft-looking son Willem Mooton. Their wives and maids. It was a full house.

He started by reading the letter of Caron Stark. His Dornish Maester Gulian informed Lord Rayman that Caron Stark was a first cousin to the Lord Stark of Winterfell. Rayman was always happy to receive gifts and he was always looking for trade, booming his income with it. He stood up from his chair and walked over to the furs. Feeling it, it was the best quality. He draped one of them over his shoulders. This would make an excellent new coat. "The quality is indeed beyond reach. Furs like this would make a lovely muff for my lady wife. But pray tell me, I didn't know Lord stark's cousin was a lord himself? Where exactly is the Northmarch? I have been.. a guest at the Eyrie for most of the wars, so I didn't got much news from the outside world."

"The Northmarch is a newly designated Lordship along the very northern border," said the envoy, "With ever increasing Wildling incursions into the Wolfswood and beyond, Lord Stark saw fit to place the northernmost part of the North under the charge of a single Lordship, that a coordinated response might be designed."

"That does sounds sensible. I am happy to be able to help with that adventure of lord Stark. We have enough grain to trade in return. I think this venture will be beneficial to us both."

"It is settled, then!" said the envoy, "Soon you will receive many more pelts like your first. I will return North with all haste and ensure exports begin in short order."

The man offered a bow and backed out of the Hall, preparing to make the long journey back North.

Before the envoy could depart, Rayman added: "Oh and ser, do remind lord Stark that if he ever needs a friend in the Riverlands, that he only have to turn to me."

After much distress, pain and loss, there was finally cause to be happy again at Maidenpool. Willem the heir and his wife Melara Mallister had been the happy parents of a second healthy boy. At Rayman's insistence, he was to be named Jon Mooton.

    A raven arrives:

    To Lord Rayman of Maidenpool:

My Lord, I must thank you for your kindness, you were a welcomed guest at the Eyrie and will continue to be like that, more so after this joyful birth. I bestow my blessing upon the newborn, shall he live long and successfully. I will remember your words, Lord Mooton; I may have the chance to pay you a visit to Maidenpool, depending on the King Robert's decision about a delicate matter.

Shall be all flourish under Baratheon's rule, including the fair Maidenpool.

    Seven blessings,
