I have often thought that a mod depicting the American Revolution would be very suitable for Medieval II. The war has a small number of factions, namely the United States, Great Britain (including the Loyalist and Hessian forces) and France. Spain and Holland were also involved (particularly Spain in Florida) and of course the various Native American nations who fought on both sides in the conflict. The map could either focus entirely on the Thirteen Colonies or could be expanded to include the Caribbean and even Gibraltar. Units would take some work, but initially you wouldn't need much cavalry (The British had two Dragoon regiments serve in America along with other Loyalist forces, the rebels only had four and then various other legions) and the infantry could be designed as generic Line Infantry, Grenadiers, Light Infantry and Militia and developed into more specific regiments later. Infantry units wouldn't need to be too big, most battalions struggled to field 200-300 men during the war, particularly in the Southern Theater. Even uniforms may not be as much of a problem as many Americans wore simple hunting shirts whilst later on it is now widely believed that many British soldiers wore simple cut down red coats with round hats.
I haven't seen many 18th century mods out there. There was one for the Great Northern War and somebody else was developing one for the various Highland feuds of the 17th and 18th centuries but I suppose most people do not attempt it due to the uniforms and the fact that Empire is out there.
What are peoples thoughts on creating a mod on this subject? I would happily work as a historical researcher, particularly for the British side of things. I have no experience of mapping, creating textures etc. although I am willing to learn a few basics if necessary.
I think it would be an interesting mod. Ambitious as of course the various colourful units of the war would need to be created. Please post if anyone is interested in this idea. As I have said, I could commit only as a researcher and adviser for I am not the most skilled person when it comes to computers.
