Default How to beat Scythia on DeI

The subject says it all. How do you beat Scythia in DeI. They do a lot more damage and even hoplites are totally impervious to missiles like in the vanilla version, where they could be used as a missile screen. I find it very rare that I can win against them and usually this victory is either close or pyrrhic. Any help would be appreciated as I am not interested in their territory but rather interested in keeping them weak enough so that they do not become a major threat to me.

in genereall you can use slingers + thureos + shock cav to counter missle cav as a hellenic faction. but in general you should just counter them with more stacks than they have..^^

Thanks for trying to help (sincerely). But this doesn't work. An army of cataphract archers is the most invicible army in game. I think they can kill around 3-4 entire stacks of enemy armies. They are very OP.

Wouldn't it be nice to build a 'Great wall' to keep those pesky barbarians out of your civilized lands! I remember in Rome 1, building a chain of forts along my borders. But only advice I know is to hire local horse archers or skirmish cavalry of your own if you can.

As carthage I just have a thin line of hoplites and have my Balearic slingers just sling the living out of any horse archers in range. I bring 6 slingers, around 6-8 hoplites, 4 or so cav and an elephant general to start a mass rout once the cav fight starts.

Weren't there other threads about this?

Here they are. Might be more, but I'm not sure. There could be some helpful tips in these threads.

Things get ugly if you let them get access to cataphract archers. Things are amazing in close combat and rarely take decisive damage off a charge - I've hit them with rank 9, lv3 armor/weapons/horses parthian Grivpanvir charge, only to see them shrug it off with minimal losses, then deal heavy casualties in melee combat. Apparently they have 2 initiative/2 deadliness weapons which work very well in melee, with the rear of the unit unengaged in melee firing arrows. Destroy them early to prevent them from teching up to cataphract archers, or you're gonna have a hard time.

Saw this tactic of Alexander the Great that he used in the Battle of the Jaxartes.Pure genius! Before Alexander, no traditional army was know to have defeated Nomadic tribes in battle. Alexander's technique works with considerable success even in this game. Of course like all his tactics it is highly risky and requires to be pulled off with extreme precision and timing.

Still I find combating the cataphract archers a major pain the butt. There is very little weakness that they present, and even if there is a weakness they have good speed to pull away and reset their position and regain their advantage.
