@ JoC, writtings aren't the only sources, especially before the 13th century when they tend to be rare.
You can also use sagas (but take care of the legendary side of them) and pictures from the concerned period (I mean really done at the concerned period).

I don't think lower class militias would get into the pictures commissioned by the elites. In sagas there're parts describing ordinary folks, but they are mainly about elites.
Less related issue - in archeology it's much easier to spot crossbows than bows since they've got metal elements which can survive.
I think we need to take the bias into account and also ask "was it realistic / possible to be so".

For that specific topic, I'm convinced that bows were originally used by most of the factions during the early period. Then, for the time passing, crossbows took over for some of them. But that's just my opinion

Armenia: unit Svanian Archers (edu: georgian light archer) can be constructed in any region in missile ranges.
IMO Should be limited to some armenia regions, as description says : " .... They live in a unapproachable mountains of west georgia ... " .

Svanetia is indeed a region in north-west georgia. IMO these guys should be recruitable only from two regions: Kutaisi and Tbilisi.

Hi

Just got a CTT, I attacked the system log. Plz help.

It's an open field battle, near constantinople, I'm playing as the fatimids and I'm trying to destroy 2 HRE armies. CTT occurs less than a minute after I press start.

Does it happen each time?
Have you tried to auto-resolve it (just to see if you still have the CTD)?
What are the units in the HRE armies?

Can you specify which era and which faction (yours and AI)? When does it happen (AI turn, battle, etc...)?

I tried the battle again and this time I didn't get CTD. Sorry i know one is suppose to retry, but this does happen several times along my campaigns, sometimes doesn't matter how many times I retry so this time I just decided to go straight here. meh...

I sometimes get crashes & CTD's when the battle exceeds performance of my computer, obvious example : very large armies (I play on huge unit size).
But I've found a solution : for such v. large battles (which are not very often) I' lowering graphical details :
- resolution, to ex: 1280 X 1025 or even good old VGA
- detalis : unit / buildings / ... to low
- grass details -> this is pain . I have in my default.cfg :

and I'm able to play such large battle.

seems I had an older version 9.0 Now I downloaded a new version 9.2.0
but the old problem about which I have written a long time ago still remained not been resolved. when I siege Lyon in France in the tactic battle happens this:

Try to make there a battle and rotate the camera and I am sure you will have the same problem.
Perhaps the reason in "heights"?

I'd like to report some bugs,

In 2 separate campaigns of mine, the settlement Sivas(in Anatolia) rebelled saying the Pisans had risen up against foriegn rulers and when I used toggle_fow saw that Pisa took control of settlement from the rebels.
Something similar occured with HRE rebelling in Tmutarakan(next to Crimea).
Also in both these campaigns half the HRE suddenly went rebel for no reason.
the rebels themselves were called Independant fief or state.

@ Gercog, it seems that it is due to the geography file (can't remember the exact name). It should be fixed for the next release but I can try to upload the relevant file to let you try it. It is save game compatible.

@ Torn, I'll check the rebels for these regions. Thanks for pointing this out. Regarding HRE, it might be due to the fact that these HRE settlements rebel at some strages. However, it shouldn't happen in 1 turn.

@Gercog: Did anybody die in this battle yet? To me, it very rarely happens when archers die (especially peasant archers, I think). There must be some kind of bug in their dying-animation.
