Default Stuttering according to pc configuration

    Hi,

It is a known problem that with DEI´s unit sizes at extreme it is impossible to get a smooth battle with 18000 men fighting at the same time. thats why i would like to ask you your threshold of smoothness, so that i and many of us can adjust the settings for a better gameplay experience. Dont forget to post your pc and game graphic configuration.

    PC Configuration:

    I7 4770k oc 4.3 ghz
Nvidia 770 gtx gigabyte oc 4gb
    16 gb ram 1600 mhz

Settings are at extreme (including unit size) except for alfa vegetation, and with all the filters activated.

with 11000-12000, i manage to maintain a stable battle without stuttering. With 13000-16000 stuttering appears from time to time. With 18000 thousand my fps remain stable at 50-60 but the stuttering begins to annoy the battle.

Turn down unit size to get vanilla like unit values. Imho only wait to get better performance. Also lowering unit detail so units will not use best textures even on max zoom out. Tress, grass, ground, you can lower those also.

all those things give 1 fps increase if that, expect the unit sizes even that does not help that much. imo it has something to do with the amount of custom units being rendered.

vanilla Rome 2 40v40 units no lag with biggest size available. DeI 20v20 massive lag even on small unit sizes.

DeI units simply look to good And this is actually thruth. Vanilla or other mods work just fine on pretty much max details on my PC, while for DeI I have to lower this and that.

By the way, particle effects are killers for FPS.

Thank you for your answers, but fps are not a problem since they remain stable for me, i tried lowering some things but it had no effect, maybe lowering unit size is the only way.

Well, stuttering is due to lack of memory for the animations, since it's max lvl was lowered few months ago. For me lowering partice effects and ticking off unlimited memory helps when it is lagging real bad.

thanks that seems to have helped a significant amount from 20's to the upper 30's

I haven't played for a long time, but now that the new DEI version is out I decided to see whats new. Before, I never had any issue with frame rates or stuttering, but now... my battles stutter extremely bad even after using the tips from this thread. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have a solution? Like I said, I never had a problem before but I haven't played for a few months.

Has anyone else found that instead of low frame rates, the entire game will sometimes go into slow motion?

I can attest that with high unit size, extreme graphic except particles, stuttering do happen in big battles.

It might be a coincidence, but stuttering seem particularly bad in siege battles. In sieges, i experience diaporama stuttering even in 15vs15.

I do not have the issue on vanilla. Changing cpu affinity doesn't help at all.

Does anyone know if vanilla is doing the same thing? Is it because of their (CA) recent patch or is it an isolated problem with DEI?

I've found the slow motion is actually not as bad under DeI as it was under vanilla. Not had stuttering problems though.
