Centcom spokesman Commander Bill Speaks said: "The technology supports classified blogging activities on foreign-language websites to enable Centcom to counter violent extremist and enemy propaganda outside the US."
He said none of the interventions would be in English, as it would be unlawful to "address US audiences" with such technology, and any English-language use of social media by Centcom was always clearly attributed. The languages in which the interventions are conducted include Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Pashto.

This is not surprising. The US, the UK, Russia, PRC and etc all engage in this type of behaviour but fortunately you can tell who's a pro-Russian or a pro-US/western bot most of the time. A prime example is the comments section of The Guardian media outlet; a good portion of the comments that are either pro-Russian or pro-US is absolutely obvious and it's why I dread reading comments on news articles.
funny that because i happened to read on reddit that the Russians had their own astroturfing team
My violent extremism and propaganda is being countered by Government Agents?
Can't help but wonder if there any of such accounts on TWC. If they do it in foreign languages why not english? lower opportunity cost

Oh no, they found us out!
If you want an obvious proof, check out the Ukraine & Crimea thread, where some members post there 24/7 defending strictly pro-Western side.
In any case, here's an interesting article from a person who used to be a pro-Israeli shill.
Update 4/3/2012: Above Top Secret’s legal agent never responded to our request for clarification of their takedown request. The original thread has now been moved to the “Hoax” category of the website, as ATS claims the author admitted it was a hoax in a private exchange. To the best of our knowledge, this private exchange or the details thereof have not been posted publicly to substantiate this claim. Regardless, we believe that covert operations to manipulate online opinion and debate do exist (and indeed have been publicly acknowledged in many of the supporting links below). Whether this specific case is true or not, it remains a valuable and provocative dialogue still worthy of consideration.

I am quite convinced that those members are real people rather than sock puppets. We do however have better proof of real sock puppets on TWC:

Propaganda agents can still be shills. It's just a more expensive form of shilling.
You do realize the nordic model in which you live is a minority amongst western countries? It hardly represents west. Very little countries present a decent social state on the level of sweden. What you experienced is nordic characteristic, rather than typical west.
USA for example compared to Sweden has very little welfare state, and is considerably more darwinistic.

Maybe. But Russian propaganda wasn't ever nearly as strong or subtle as American is.
>Implying that I support current Russian government. They even have the fact that they don't live in the country they're supporting in common.
Nice troll attempt thou, too bad you mucked it up in the end.
