the twist here is that the girls could've been murdered by their parents after the rape, hmmmm a sort of 'honour killings' to wipe out the shame of rape.

I think people are over exaggerating this rape epidemic in India. Rape isn't a common occurrence in India but most media outlets ignore that and try to paint India as sort sort of backwards country, when in reality India isn't. Honestly, I don't see what people want Indian officials to do; rape is a criminal offence in India and you'll serve a long time in prison if you engage in such illegal activities. Beyond that, there's nothing anyone can do and all of this negative attention towards India isn't helping one bit except for adding fuel to the fire.

i think it's wonderful in helping the largely western audience of these rape news as feeling a little bit better about their lot in life-especially in regards to feeling superior towards Indians; sex sells and so does rape, apparently.

India has over a billion people. That rape is committed amongst a nation of a billion every now and then does not come as a surprise. What does come as a surprise are the number of large gang rapes that occur there, which to my knowledge is at a higher rate than elsewhere. According to socialist views, these women should be gang raped even more to agitate the proletariat into revolution. According to civil rights advocates, everyone in the world should experience gang rape so we're all equal. Finally, according to libertarian views, we should form a market for gang rapes so that they might be more efficiently distributed among the populace than any state could manage.

and going by right wing Christian views, these women should be sold to their rapists, if the rapist doesn't want them they should be tortured to death, for tempting a male to sin. The second most common type of marriage in the bible is based on rape (either of pre-pubescent captives taken in war, or the 'rape it and buy it' combo), that is after polygamy. If you argue for biblical marriage, you are arguing for paedophilia, or for the behaviour of these men, gang rape and murder is a biblical act, laid out in Leviticus iirc.
