Rome and Koinon Hellenon, but I'm quite fond of the Casse

Epeiros, though this is the first time I'm playing them as intended. I prefer using them for Pergamon; I never recruit elites anyway, so don't miss not having any Homeland areas in my starting geography. I love the regional Greek/Hellenistic roster, there's so many good value units in there.
I've never played Koinon Hellenon; never will because I don't like infantry generals. The Hellenic roster isn't great for cavalry as it is, at least playing Epeiros you get FMs who are really good at shock charges. The three main Successors all start with too big empires for my tastes, or in the case of Makedon locked in a three-way war right at the start.
I did used to like the Romani, but their units are all too good which doesn't make for a very interesting game. Plus they can't recruit loads of awesome Greek units like Thureophoroi and Keltohellenikoi in any way other than mercenary, which is a shame.

I like to play each cultural zone and these are my favorites:
Semite: As-Sabyn, funny units and I like Desert Terrain, so this position obviously the most desert battles
European: Sweboz, strong and fierce Warriors, very interesting language
Hellenic: Koinon Hellenon, conquering all the former greek colonies and uniting them by a strong naval force is fun
Eastern: Hayasdan, love the hardcore starting position and all the reforming stuff to conquer Persia, instead of letting Pahlava doing it
Nomads: Sauromatae, very funny remote(?)combat combined with Hoplites, and I simply like these hardy people from the steppes
But No. 1 is and will be forever the Romani![]()
The perfect one for me is Arche Seleukeia...It's hard to survive in the beginning and then slowly rebuilding and expanding the empire is so much fun...And the troop choices is just amazing...
But I'll have to try Koinon Hellenon and Sweboz....
Pahlava definitely.
Pyotr, I've just added reputation on yours so rep me too.And my favorite faction is Rome simply because of the reforms and diverse unit choices. Next one would be Selecuid empire. I like Greece's location, but their diverse hoplite unit choices confuse me
so I won't vote for them.
Probably Romani and Koinon Hellenon for me as well.
I quite like hoplites in EB, and how EB represents their phalanx. I also like having elite versions of them as generals. Crazy durable, and I can pretty much always have them fighting in the thick of things unlike cavalry generals. Plus, sending them first up the ladders in a siege is fun. I remember that's how I took Corinth in my KH game in the first few turns. Their unit roster can be surprisingly diverse too, discounting phalangites. Especially if you get into their excellent region specific units. Hoplites and thureophoroi/thorakitai, but also Kretan archers, Rhodian slingers... and Thessalian cavalry solve the cavalry problem very well. My go to was usually a front line of hoplites, thureophoroi and thorakitai in reserve, peltastai on the flanks or in front to skirmish, Kretan archers in the back and some Thessalian cavalry - a pretty well rounded army in terms of unit types, I'd say. I also like how the region specific units reinforce the idea of the faction as an alliance of separate cities.
Can't say I have a favourite one. When I feel an affinity for one faction, I will play it. I tried playing all of them and I do tend to play some more often that others. Lately they are Koinon, Carthage, Pontos, SPQR but then I will go back to Baktria, Getai, Lusotannan or Casse. Ptolemy always draws me in because I'm a nut for Egypt but their position will make me bored very quickly. The Successor states are usually the ones I get bored with quickly because using phalanxes makes battles way too easy.
Talk is cheap.. Hayasdan FTW
I'm drinking wine and eating cheese, and catching some rays, you know
Lusotannan because they have a wide range of units and classes available. There's a reason why the AI dominates with them.
Swords don't kill people, people with swords kill people.
Rome is first. i like to hear they call me IMPARATOR
Secondly Arche Seleuka . They have deadly phalangites, support soldiers and good cavalry
And I wonder to play any barbarian factions another time
Romani, Pahlava, Haysadan and Saka.
In all honesty I like all the factions quite a bit but so far my favourites are the Romani, Getae, Hayasdan, and Pahlava

getae who is really strong with their falxmen.
I've played a few factions. Won with some, lost with some and lost BAD with others, and quit when I played as Rome (too easy).
Win:KH/Pontus/Luso/Casse
I've always liked Casse. Strong economy and starting position to begin with. But when you hit the mainland...you better have a plan because if you don't the red tide will wash over you. If that wasn't bad enough...try being the lunch meat in between a Rome/Luso sandwich.
Luso ended up being a surprise favorite. Great units, scripted battles, good economy once you get going, expansion options, and near 2 super powers that put up a good slug fest. Not to mention the bad ass heavy cavalry & infantry.
I've always anticipated playing as a nomad nation but the micro management of battles, acceptable "losses", and complicated reforms have kept me from them. But if I was to play one...it would be either Saka or Sarmatia.
I must confess to being another boring Rome fan. Cohors reformata are just too good, and there's something about Rome. The pathos calls to me.
Macedonia and Epeiros, because I love to rebuild Alexander's empire![]()
