I thought it would be a good idea for the resident mappers to post an introduction of themselves here. One of the reasons is the observation that in questions asked privately and publicly a recurring issue seems to be having to explain what I can/will/should do and do not do as a mapper. This will probably change from person to person. You're all welcome to add your own paragraph. This might be mine:
What I do
In brief, I focus on creating maps of the physical world from scratch. This concerns mainly the .tga image files. These are in part based on real world data, partly on historical data. I use data with known map projections in order to combine elements in a geographically sound way in a Geographical Information System. The creative bit is in reconciling these raw data with the RTW engine and incorporating gameplay considerations, both on the campaign and battlemap.
What I don't do
While I do the minimum of coding necessary to get the map on screen, I don't code the human geography, resources etc.. That I leave to the historians or scenario writers. Given an accurate sketch, I will, reluctantly turn a sketched regions map into a technically correct one and create a skeleton descr_regions.txt showing the colour codes used.
Projects
I am supporting the map in RTR7's final stages of development. Lusted's Alexandros unfortunately died. I've invested most time (about a year) in research and development, a considerable part devoted to non-custom battlemap modification (sig) I've known from the start that it would probably be too late to have an impact on RTW. Unless M2TW mapping is radically different I'm ready for it though.
