    Icon5 Balance problems?

    Hi
Is there a reason why catuiros calgo, cheapest sword unit for Arverni, beats a gold upgrades principes unit? The principes is far superior in stats. Also in game. A far more superior and experinced army still lose over the barbarian horde if you auto-resolve.

That's an issue with the numbers in barbarian units. Auto-resolver is based heavily on troop numbers.

Very little details are provided here. Did you run a test in a custom battle so you are talking 1v1? What difficulty were you playing on?

From my experience, Roman and phalanx units beat the barbarian units.

look at my thread about spearmen being op due to initiative

this is because all shortsword / gladius units with initiative of 0 are severely underpowered.

the barbarian unit is using long swords with initaitve of 2. principe using gladius with initiative of zero. even though it has higher deadliness, initiative completely trumps every other stat.
along the samelines , spear units also have initiative 2 and they completely destroy roman legions... an early principe will destroy imperial legion 1v1 becuase of weapon initiative.

i rebalanced the mod for myself , id suggest doing the same if your gonna play the romans... or make any units that uses shortswords, 1handed axes etc.

Yeah I might thought so its was aboyt the initiative stat. I remember seing your thread. I Hope they will balance it again.

Are you just talking about auto-resolve? Because it's not representative of played battlefield performance at all. You WILL lose many auto-resolves you could very very easily win if you played the battles yourself.

Although as has been detailed in many discussions here, celtic sword units in particular have a significant advantage over Roman/Hellenistic sword units because of their Initiative value, which is relatively more influential in 1v1 head to head melee than any other value (deadliness, armor, melee attack/defense). I doubt they'd beat principes with gold chevrons, but gold weapons and armor? That's easily believable. I've seen celtic swordsmen and chosen swordsmen turn elite African infantry and other high tier "short"-swordsmen into paste in many battles and tests.

which is entirely unhistorical and imbalanced

I think after 0.9 balancing will become next priority, would be great for someone with experience in this to offer advice or join the team.
